To get points for the school we need to send in receipts showing purchases of Tui branded products from Mitre 10 and Mitre 10 MEGA. Unfortunately our nearest Mitre 10 is in Whangarei/ Kensington now, so get the word out there please! Today we were awarded with a GOLD HEART AWARD. Rhona, a representative from the New Zealand Heart Foundation came to our assembly and praised the school for being so aware of healthy choices and recognised all the hard work that goes into being the “best school in NZ”. The staff have worked very hard to make sure the school met the Foundation’s criteria. For more information visit http://heartfoundation.org.nz/ Ali Edwards (Lisa and Holly’s mum) has offered to come to school every second Monday morning to take any interested year 4-8 pupils cross country training. We have the interschool X-country coming up and there are various other races pupils can enter later in the year. Ali will take them training outside of the school area. Safety will come first and all participants must be behave sensibly. If your child is interested in training with Ali please send a note to the school office. NIT ALERT! ** NIT ALERT ** Here are some signs that should alert you that you, or a member of your family, might have head lice… If you or a member of your family has found living, moving lice in their hair If you or a member of your family persistently scratch the scalp or the scalp itches If any of you have had head to head contact with someone who is infected with head lice Please check and treat your children/family on a regular basis. Thank you!! 27th July Year 8 Girls Vaccinations X-Country 14 September Waikare PLEASE TRY TO GET TO SCHOOL BEFORE 9AM IN THE MORNING, PLEASE On behalf of the children and staff at Opua School I would like to thank the coaches, managers and parents who assist in winter sports. Our children are extremely lucky to have such a dedicated support group such as yourselves. One day the children will grow up and realise how lucky they were to have folk like you and they will do the same for their children! Last term we alerted you to the fact that we would be having another mid term break to use up the 1 extra day that we have owed to us (the Board made the Puff ‘n Pull day and the Regatta school days to encourage 100% participation). We used 1 day last term and we have 1 more up our sleeve. The Board has discussed the different options and has decided to have a three day weekend from Friday the 24th August. This term is 11 weeks long and there are no public holidays at all, we hope that this 1 day off will come as a welcome break. Hughie Blues is on the lookout for keen/ interested Opua School pupils who would like to take part in this year’s North Island Primary School Ski Champs at Whakapapa in August. We have activities such as clay, pickle ball, patchwork, art, painting, photography, ball sports, sewing, fishing, crafts, mosaic and much more!
