Dullstroom Chamber of Business - Update
In the spirit of working together for Dullstroom, we bring you a bullet-point
update of recent news from the DCofB:
Dullstroom Events Calendar – DCofB is developing an Events Calendar and
they need everybody’s inputs! If you run an event and don't have a set date
for each year, perhaps it is a better option to set it now for 2014. Once the
calendar is finalised, we will send it out to all members on behalf of DCofB.
Mini Events - If you or your business is planning weekend events, please let
DCofB know and they will publicise them. For example if you are holding a
kids fun day, live music or fund raiser, then please advise DCofB
Merchant Capital - DCofB was approached recently by a company called
Merchant Capital. They basically assist in helping SME's develop & grow, by
turning their future card transactions into cash today. To date, they have
assisted a wide range of retail merchants who have used the cash injection,
for instance, to purchase incremental stock, do renovations, purchase new
equipment etc etc. If you would like more info, visit their website –
www.merchantcapital.co.za or e-mail [email protected]
Daredevil Run - The 2013 Etana Daredevil Run (otherwise known as the
Red Speedo Run) will take place on Saturday, November 9, starting and
finishing at The Poacher. Please promote this event which is held in aid of
CANSA. Enter online at www.daredevilrun.com
Dullstroom Calendar Boys - DCofB is also thinking of producing a
Dullstroom desktop calendar for 2014. The idea is to photograph wellknown Dullstroom personalities, and feature them each month of the year,
together with a corporate sponsor. The calendar will be sold for around R80
each, and a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to a local charity.
They would love to get 12 companies each to sponsor a month. And they
may even theme the calendar, similar to the film Calendar Girls, but this will
be the Dullstroom Boys – the mind boggles !!!
Nutsellers and Carguards – Plans are underway to better manage them.
DCofB now has a register with their names, contact numbers and copies of
their ID`s. Good luck with that one Del-Monté !
Dullstroom End-of-Year Picnic – Just an idea at this stage, but a very good
one J Everyone will be invited - business owners, locals and their families
etc. There will be no cost, and no fundraising, just a fun afternoon …. locals
getting together is part of what makes Dullstroom special. Watch this space.
Mail any inputs or questions on any of these updates to Del-Monté

LAST, BUT NOT LEAST
•
SERVICE DELIVERY – we have re-commenced our engagement in Service Delivery Meetings
each week. Wheels grind so slowly, but …..
o Water restrictions are being considered – let’s wait and see whether this changes when the
rainy season gets well underway (And it made a great start this week J J J )
o Work has commenced regarding a major upgrade to the Water Plant, which may include
raising of the Town Dam wall to improve storage capacity
o A study is underway to recommend the diversion of funds to improve the R540 conditions
o And some of the more serious potholes in town may get repaired soon
o We have tabled an urgent request that in-town street lighting be repaired
o There is some confusion regarding water meter readings - please advise
[email protected] if you know that your meter is not being read on a regular or
accurate basis
•
DUNKELD EXTENSION – we are pleased to advise that the concerns that we raised following the
Basic Assessment Report for the proposed Dunkeld Extension have been satisfactorily resolved
and we have withdrawn our objections. If required, further details can be obtained by contacting
[email protected]
•
COMMUNITY POLICE FORUM – our DRA Vice Chairman (Alan Hatton) was recently appointed as
the Dullstroom CPF Sub-Forum Chairman. There has been little or no effective CPF engagement
from this sub-forum for some time and Alan is endeavouring to make some progress in this regard.
If you would be happy to support him and at least help get this sub-forum off the ground, then
please contact him directly at [email protected] or on 073 478 3317
•
DRA COMMITTEE – we have lost a few of our DRA Committee members in the past few months
and are keen to enlist some “new blood” – if you would be happy to support us, then please contact
us on [email protected]
•
ESKOM DELIVERIES – Eskom have stopped coal deliveries from Friday evening until Sunday
evening as a safety initiative. The good news for us of course is that it means that the main road
through Dullstroom will be that much safer and quieter during the weekends.
•
WELCOME – to a new member …. Lorraine Roussouw
