Wheels III offers a variety of library
materials for children and adults, plus
literacy activities such as story times and
special programs.

Did you know that fungi, fireflies and some earthworms
produce a “natural glow?” How do these amazing critters
light up without any cords or sockets? Through a
mind-boggling process called bioluminescence! We will
explore bioluminescence through the book, The Winking,
Blinking Sea by Mary batten, conduct a hands-on light
experiment, and create our own glow-in-the-dark night
lights to take home. Geared towards, but not limited
to, children ages three and up.

Every Tuesday in June & July at 10:00 a.m.
Storytime for children birth through age 5 and
their families, caregivers and siblings. A fantastic
time to borrow books from the Cobleigh
Bookmobile, enjoy stories, songs, finger plays and
a rhyme from the host puppet Becky! With a
“letter of the day” and a focus on one of the
six early literacy skills, songs, crafts and the
opportunity to meet new library friends!

Spark a Reaction for students in grades 9-12
June 19 (VEEP visit!), July 10 and July 31
at 1:00 p.m.
We will be choosing books,
nominated for the current Green Mountain Book
Award (GMBA), to read on our own time then
meet as a group and try to spark (or not!) other’s
interest in the book while working on a science
themed craft or activity.
Fizz, Boom, Read! for children in grades K-4
June 25th(VEEP visit!), and every Wednesday in July
at 1:00 p.m. Spark your imagination with science
themed stories and activities. We will focus on one
book per week and do a related craft or activity. On
7/2 and 7/16 we will read a book and watch the
movie it is based on, with popcorn of course!
Create a Spark for students in grades 4-8
June 26th (VEEP visit!), July 17th and August 7th
at 1:00 p.m.
We will be choosing books, nominated for the
current Dorothy Canfield Fisher (DCF) book award,
to read on our own time then meet as a group and
try to spark (or not!) other’s interest in the book
while working on a science themed craft or activity.

Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS)
July 11th at 2:00 p.m.
Watch science come alive as we delve into the
lives of different kinds of animals. In this program
we will explore similarities and differences
between amphibians, reptiles and birds. Through
engaging experiments we will investigate how
each group is suited to their habitat and how their
adaptations aid in their survival. Throughout the
program you will enjoy up-close encounters with a
live frog, snake and bird.

This program introduces audiences to local and
tropical bats. Via amazing slides, the audience
moves beyond old stereotypes of bats, to
understand their vital role, helping to control
pesky insects, pollinating night blooming flower,
and dispersing seeds. Audiences learn about
vampire bats, our smallest bat and our large fruit
bats, about bat migration and hibernation, and we
will look at the white nose syndrome, the most
recent threat to bats such as our Little Brown bat.
A wonderful bat tee shirt craft follows the slide
show. Bring your own tee shirt for the craft or $4
if you would like to purchase one at the program.
Saturday, July 19th, meet at 9:45 am in Power’s
Park (road closes at 9:30). All ages welcome,
parents must accompany children. Remember to
wear good walking shoes!

Ever inventive, spontaneous and responsive to
kids, John and Matthew of the Swing Peepers
take families on a fun and participatory journey
through the world of science, nature, and
discovery. Instruments strummed, swung, and
tapped include: guitar, mandolin, harmonica,
banjo, ukulele and accordion. Come sing, move,
fizz and boom along with the Swing Peepers!
At NOON: head over to the Cobleigh Library to
enjoy pizza and children get to pick a free book!
