LIGHTHOUSE QUILT GUILD – BUSINESS MEETING – October 1, 2013
Meeting was called to order by Vice President Holli Acevedo at
10:05 a.m. Everyone was welcomed and told President Debi was
absent for medical reason. Holli asked that all cell phones be
turned off or put on vibrate. Kathy Albert was visiting as guest of
Margaret Rose. There were 29 members present.
Holli passed around the binder with all the Opportunity Quilts from
the past years, and asked for help on any she might have missed.
See Holli with more info. Holli passed around a Thank You card
for Red Sky Roofing who fixed our gutter.
HEALTH UPDATES: Carol Hudiburg’s surgery was successful
and she is recovering at home; Ruthe Mayer fell at home
requiring short hospital stay (she was present today); Betty Young
was at guild and is doing better all the time; Lois Gehrman was
back in the hospital and is now home recovering. Carolyn Gavin’s
husband is suffering from a shoulder injury. Al Graves, Dennis
Berg, Barbara Allison and Wes Rook are all much improved.
MINUTES from September 3rd meeting were read by Marlene. A
motion was made, seconded & carried to accept minutes as read.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Holli created a new format for the
Treasurer’s report. She explained each category to all the
members. A motion was made to accept the report as read,
seconded and carried.
CORRESPONDENCE: An e-mail was shared from Sue Rhodes
saying she had closed her quilt store in Weaverville, and would be
moving to Crescent City in the future. She is looking forward to
becoming active in our guild; and, Material Girls of Shady Cove’s
Quilt Show is November 2nd and 3rd.
Name Tag jar was passed around for those who forgot their tags.
NEW BUSINESS: Red Sky roofing fixed our gutter free; Trish put
weather stripping around the back door of the building; and,
Sheryl Pattison has packets available for the 2013/14 Opportunity
Quilt. Please pick up your packet from Sheryl and all monies and
ticket stubs due August 5, 2014.
Margaret Rose mentioned that people from her beauty salon were
upset with the method used to draw the winner for the Opportunity
Quilt last month, which was won by Debi. Holli explained the
process that has been used during her membership in the guild in
selecting a winner, and then asked for a raise of hands for those
who had previously won a quilt. Several raised their hands.
Discussion concluded.
OLD BUSINESS: Holli showed a picture of the Lanyard that Debi
had researched for our new name tags. It will be blue with white
lettering at an estimated cost of $4. Using a Lanyard will be
optional. Several members were interested in purchasing a
Lanyard. Motion was made, seconded and carried.
Guild Lighthouse pins had been located in a closet by Holli and
provided to any members who wanted them.
Last Saturday was sew day. 7 members were present all day. It
was covered by Nancy and Cori in Marlene’s absence.
Ruth reported that two people took her appliqué class. She
worked with one September 21st, and the other on September 28th
during the Sew day.
-Christmas Bazaar is December 7th. Karen Wells is in charge.

5” blocks from the same fabric to share; 2 fat quarters for games;
and bring a surprise arrangement of any kind made from 4 fat
quarters. Place in a brown paper bag and include some kind of
hint to assist in guessing the contents. Have fun with it.

Featured Web Site
Carol Doak
www.caroldoak.com
Carol Doak’s techniques
for paper piecing are
excellent for both
beginners and experts. Her web site
includes both basic and more advanced
free patterns. She has free downloads of
instruction sheets on converting
traditional patterns to paper piecing and
designing your own paper piecing
patterns. Her patterns, books, CDs and
tools are also available through her site.
Quilting Tips
Make your quilt rod / hanging sleeve from a patchwork of all the
fabric used in your quilt. Then, if you need to repair anything on the
quilt top later, you will have a selection of the right fabrics to use.
Collect These?
Judy Potter is collecting Labels for Education from Campbell Soups (include the bar code) and General Mills
products. Her church sends them to an Indian school in Arizona where they are collected for equipment and,
hopefully, a van.
Cassie Simonson is collecting pull tabs that are used to help pay for cancer treatments through the VFW.
Barbara Porter is sending Manufactures’ coupons to Military Bases overseas.
The Guild also appreciates members who bring aluminum cans or plastic water bottles for recycling or who
allocate their refunds to the Guild’s account at Julindra.
Thanks for your help with these projects.
