Welcome!

contributed to the lives of hundreds of thousands of boys and girls, and men and women
of all ages, races, religions and economic backgrounds.
The Y is the nation’s leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through
youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Y is, and always has been
dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected and secure children, adults, families
and communities. Every day our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice,

payments will continue in effect until the membership notifies the
YMCA in writing. Written notice must be received at the YMCA no
later than the 26th of the month prior to the requested date of
cancellation. Memberships are not transferable to another person or
to another YMCA.
NonProfit Status
People refer to YMCAs as charities. But what makes the Y a
charitable organization?
The YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area exists solely to
benefit the people in your community. As a volunteer-founded,
volunteer-led organization, all revenue remains in the YMCA; no
profits are paid to a group of shareholders and all YMCA assets
belong to the community.
For these reasons, your YMCA seeks charitable contribution to
continually meet the needs of the people it serves. Membership
dues pay for everyday operations but your YMCA conducts annual
fundraising campaigns to raise money for the extra charitable
programs that help your community grow strong.
Upgrading Memberships
Individual YMCA memberships may be upgraded to Couple or Family
memberships. Please contact the Front Desk at any branch for more
information.
Corporate Memberships
The YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area invites your
company or organization to take advantage of the YMCA Corporate
Membership Program which offers a WIDE array of health and
wellness programs.

needs:

Option 2: Savings based on # of employees enrolled as members.

Savings can be from 5-18% based on how many employees are
enrolled as members. To start a Corporate Group, please contact
Dave Thielen, Metropolitan Director of Health and Wellness, at
377.7361.

to either suspend or revoke a membership if a member’s behavior
or language is judged to be in conflict with the welfare of YMCA
staff or patrons, or in conflict with the YMCA’s mission. The Branch
Executive at each branch will render the final decision on a revoked or
suspended membership.
We also allow Active Duty personnel visiting the Cedar Rapids area
for less than 30 days FREE access to YMCA facilities. Stop by any
YMCA facility and get information.
For more information regarding this program, contact a front desk
staff at any branch.
Financial Assistance Policy
Because the YMCA is community-based and believes that its
programs and services should be available to everyone, we offer an
Income-Based Membership Pricing structure. This program offers a
sliding fee scale that is designed to fit the financial situation of each
individual household in our community. We believe people should
have access to the programs and services at the YMCA that nurture
the spirit, mind, and body – regardless of their personal financial
circumstances.
What is Income-Based Pricing?
Exactly what it suggests – it is a way to work with families
and individuals to assure they, too, can afford to have a YMCA
membership, based on the gross annual income of their household.
The program uses an income-based rate scale that is designed so that
all people may have access to the YMCA, regardless of income.
How do I qualify/sign up?
The graduated income-based rate scale is designed for gross annual
household incomes up to $60,000 (or an individual earning $50,000
or less). The scale is divided into income ranges and membership
categories, which include:
· Adult (age 23-64)
· Active Older Adult (age 65 and older)
· Couple Household
· One-Adult Household
· Two-Adult Household
· Three-Adult Household
Those with gross annual household income greater than $60,000
(or an individual earning $50,000 or more) are expected to pay
the regular established YMCA fees. Households with gross annual
incomes over $60,000 and significant extraordinary expenses may
qualify for assistance and should discuss their particular situations
with a YMCA Branch Executive. Just bring your most recent 1040 tax
forms to the Front Desk of any branch to find out if you qualify and
for how much!
5
Denying Membership
The YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area reserves the right
to deny membership if a prospective member’s behavior or language
is judged to be in conflict with the welfare of either YMCA staff or
patrons, or in conflict with the YMCA’s mission. The Branch executive
at each branch will render the final decision.

Inclement Weather
Guest Policy
The YMCA has developed the following inclement weather policies
out of concern for the safety of our members, program participants,
guests, and staff. For weather-related closings/cancellations, check
our website at www.crmetroymca.org. Also, check local TV/Radio.
Our priority, first and foremost, is our Members. With that said, we
know there are times when you want to share the YMCA with friends
and family members who are not YMCA Members. While we welcome
guests, we have found it necessary to make clear our YMCA Guest
Policy…
If a school has a weather-related cancellation, any youth or adult
programs held ON SCHOOL GROUNDS, are cancelled.
Decisions for YMCA youth and adult programs, held at a YMCA
location will be made by 3pm on a questionable day.
Child Care Programs:
• Early School Dismissals: If school dismisses early due to inclement
weather, Child Care will be open. However, the YMCA will not provide
van transportation to the sites. Parents/Guardians may bring students
to the sites.
• School Cancellations: The YMCA will attempt to provide child care
when school is cancelled due to weather. The program will start ONLY
if the staff can arrive safely to the site. Please call the site coordinator
for up-to-date information. (See telephone numbers below.)
• School Delays: If the start of school is delayed, the YMCA WILL
provide child care. However, if the weather worsens, the YMCA
reserves the right to close child care. Parents/Guardians will be
notified regarding the time to pick up children.
• School Age Child Care program participants should call their Site
Coordinator if uncertain about whether or not your site it is open.
Site Coordinators’ Cell Phone Numbers:

Truman: (319) 551-0121

and relayed to the local media. Please check www.crmetroymca.org for
the most accurate information regarding program status.

will hold regular hours. HOWEVER, if safety is a concern, the Helen G.

welcome AWAY member guests to use our facilities free 12 times per
calendar year. After the 12th AWAY visit, AWAY member guests are
asked to pay $5 per visit. AWAY member guests may not bring guests,
and may not register for programs.
Each YMCA develops its own policies for administering the AWAY
program. For that reason, we suggest that you contact the YMCA
you are visiting ahead of time to verify their policies. YMCAs that
participate in the AWAY program are listed on the YMCA of the USA
web site. Go to www.ymca.net and click on “Find Your Y.” Participating
YMCAs are highlighted. You also may call 1.888.333.9622 to find the
nearest YMCA during your travels.
Birthday Parties
Bicycle Parking
Rooms are available to rent for birthday parties at all YMCA branches.
Rooms may be used for playing games, enjoying refreshments, or
opening gifts. Partygoers may then play in the pool and gym! For more
information, or to reserve a date, contact the Marion, Helen G. Nassif
or Stoney Point YMCAs. Check with each branch for number of guests
allowed.
At the Helen G. Nassif YMCA, the colorful letters that spell out the
“YMCA” just across from the entrance may look like a sculpture, but
they actually provide a place to lock up bicycles. Bike racks also are
available at the Marion and Stoney Point YMCAs. If you ride a bike to
the YMCA, you must lock it up. Bikes may not be left by doorways, on
sidewalks, or anywhere else in and around the buildings. Bike owners
are responsible for locking up their bikes. The YMCA is not responsible
for stolen or damaged bicycles.
Building and Room Rentals
All YMCA branches are available for building and facility rentals when
space is available. A deposit is required to hold a date. A group usage
agreement and regulation sheet may be picked up at any YMCA
branch. The deposit will be returned within a week after the event if
no damage has occurred. Contact any YMCA for more information.
Age Requirements:
Please Note: This is a general guideline. The YMCA reserves the right
to make adjustments as needed and to determine what “responsible”
behaviors are for supervisors of young children.
YMCA AGE POLICIES
Locker Rentals
Lockers may be rented in the men’s and women’s locker rooms at the
Helen G. Nassif and Marion YMCAs only (please ask at front desk for
fees and payment arrangements). Lockers are available for per-visit
use at all YMCA branches. Please lock lockers while using our facilities.
The YMCA of the Cedar Rapids Metropolitan Area is not responsible
for damaged, lost, or stolen items. Padlocks on non-rental lockers
MUST be removed after each locker use. Locks left on daily use
lockers will be removed at the close of the business day. Padlocks are
sold at the front desks of the Helen G Nassif and Stoney Point YMCAs
Towels
The YMCA has a free towel service. However, to save energy, please
limit towel usage to one or two per visit.
Membership Cards/YMCA Access System
After you join the YMCA, you may be given a temporary membership
card. After your membership payment is processed, you will receive
a plastic permanent card at the Front Desk. We will take your photo
before you receive your permanent card. The purpose of taking
your photograph is to ensure that no one else may use your card to
gain access to the YMCA. The photo is not on your permanent card.
Instead, the photo is in our computer system, available only to YMCA
staff.
Once you receive your permanent card, you must present it at the
Front Desk EACH TIME you enter any YMCA branch. If you forget
your card, you must show a photo ID to enter any YMCA branch. This
policy is in place for your safety and security. (PLEASE NOTE: Lost
cards may be replaced for $5)

Food and Beverages
Please help us maintain a safe and clean atmosphere by adhering to
the following:
Please do not take food or drink past the front lobby. Water, only, is
permitted beyond the front lobby. Glass containers are not allowed.
Treats for players must be distributed in the front lobby
Accidents and Incidents
In the event of an accident, injury, or unusual incident, you are asked
to please contact a YMCA staff member. YMCA staff may request that
you help fill out an incident report. If necessary, emergency personnel
will be contacted. (NOTE: You are participating in activities at your
own risk and are responsible for yourself, your children, and your
guests).
Lost and Found
The YMCA is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal
property. If you believe you have left an item at the YMCA, please
check at the Front Desk. Most items turned in at the Front Desk
are kept for three weeks. The items are then given to a charitable
organization. The YMCA will immediately discard any personal items
such as underwear, combs, and hairbrushes that are found lying
around.
Valuables
The YMCA advises against bringing valuables and large sums of
money into the building. Personal items should be stored in a
locked locker. Please be advised that the YMCA does not accept
responsibility for lost, stolen, or damaged personal property.
Telephone Usage
Telephones at the Front Desk are for business use by YMCA staff.
However, staff will place calls for YMCA patrons who need to make
quick phone calls (i.e., to arrange transportation). Calls should be
limited to one minute. Anyone caught misusing or vandalizing the
telephone will be asked to leave the building.
9
Cell Phones
The use of cell phones with camera capabilities is prohibited on YMCA
property. All cell phone usage is restricted to the front lobby of each
YMCA branch. Anyone who does not follow this policy will be asked to
leave.
Disciplinary Action
When YMCA rules and polices are not followed, member/guest
privileges may be suspended. YMCA staff will make every effort
to listen to all sides of an issue and to be fair when determining
consequences. Depending upon the seriousness of the infraction,
members/guests may lose their YMCA privileges, either for a specified
period of time or permanently. Actions such as physical violence will
not be tolerated. YMCA staff will contact law enforcement officials if
necessary to deal with issues, such as violence, theft, suspected theft,
and unruly patrons.
ActivTrax
ActivTrax is a revolutionary web-based virtual trainer program that
takes the guesswork out of your workout. AND it’s FREE to our
members. Simply take a quick 5-step strength test with a fitness
center attendant (must sign up for orientation to complete). Then
get a personal workout based on your level of ability. Workouts can
then be accessed from your home or work computer OR use our
free-standing kiosks in the buildings to print out your workout for the
day. Then, when finished, kids and adults alike can put in what they
just did to keep track of how they are doing working toward those
personal goals. Have children who participate in activities at the
YMCA? Get them going by recording the activity they do while at the
Y. (basketball, soccer, shooting hoops, it all counts!) Teach them early
what it means to understand being healthy!
The purpose of the Strong Kids Campaign is to provide financial
assistance to children and families in need. The YMCA asks the
community to contribute each year. These dollars help cover the
cost of scholarships and allow children and families the chance
to participate in and benefit from the many YMCA programs and
services. Since 1868, the YMCA has been a very important part of
our community. One of the best things the YMCA does is provide
youth with positive experiences that help them grow up to live happy,
productive lives. YMCA programs provide positive alternatives to the
many negative temptations that face youth every day.
YMCA Areas of Focus
The YMCA Areas of Focus are the way we structure ourselves so you
can better understand what we do and why we do it. Each Area of
Focus has four Offering Categories that define the types of programs
and services offered by the YMCA. All YMCA programs and services
fall into one of these twelve categories.
For Youth Development
Nurturing the potential of every child and teen
CHILD CARE
Whether it’s before or after school, summer day camp or the Y’s
Early Out Club, the YMCA Child Care program has plenty of activities
for your child. Our program focuses on providing children with an
educational, nurturing, positive, safe, and diverse atmosphere. Team
sports, arts and crafts, character development, social games and
youth choices are all aspects of our weekly programming. We provide
transportation to and from certain schools. Financial assistance is
available for those who qualify.
EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP
AND, another great aspect of the ActivTrax program is the nutrition
component. This additional component complements your work out
routine. If you take some time to enter your personal information, it
provides a weekly meal plan and even a grocery list for recipes that help
you work toward eating better. Struggling with weight? ActivTrax can
give you nutritional guidance by recording calories in and calories out.
Many of the programs at the Y have an underlying goal of education
and/or teaching leaadership skills. It may be during YMCA Camp
Wapsie youth retreats or in our home school swim lessons but you
can be sure that having kids engage in life-long skill learning is an
integral part of the program.
Strong Kids Campaign
At the YMCA, everybody plays and everybody is a winner! With
the emphasis on participation, each child plays, learns and thrives
regardless of size or ability. As a result, your child will learn good
sportsmanship, teamwork, build self-esteem, safety and have a great
time in any of our youth sports, swim lessons, parents’ night out or
other swim, sports or play program!
The annual YMCA Strong Kids Campaign (formerly Partnership With
Youth) enables the association to pursue its goal of helping people
develop to their fullest potential, regardless of their ability to pay.
SWIM, SPORTS, PLAY
YMCA CAMP WAPSIE
Camp Wapsie is a year-round facility, located just off the Wapsipinicon
River on 172 acres of wetlands and woodlands outside of Coggon.
Rental of the camp during the off summer residential camping months
is available for family reunions, overnight school programs, school
field trips, church groups, scouting groups, or whatever your group
can create. When it’s cold outside, Camp Wapsie is warm and beautiful
with our heated cabins and lodge. YMCA Camp Wapsie also offers
Day Camp, Resident Camp, retreats, and Leader In Training (LIT) and
Counselor In Training (CIT). Come and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere
and natural beauty of the oxbow lake and the multitude of waterfowl,
turkeys, and other birds.

Rules
For Healthy Living
Improving the nation’s health and well-being
Family Time provides recreational and social interaction opportunities
for families to spend time together away from home in a fun and safe
environment. The goal of Family Time is to strengthen the family unit,
regardless of its composition.
The YMCA works hard everyday to promote and model the important
character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility
through its programs, services, staff, and volunteers. And Safety and
Security of members is of the utmost importance. The following rules
have been thoughtfully developed with these values and ideals as our
guide.
HEALTH, WELL-BEING AND FITNESS
GENERAL BUILDING
The YMCA has been influencing healthy lifestyles around the world
since 1844. Our fitness programs focus on personal well being,
and enhancing the spirit, mind, and body. A variety of programs are
available, including aerobics, strength training, cardiovascular training,
yoga, ActivTrax, and Tae Kwon Do. But it’s not all about keeping
yourself fit. We offer many classes around helping in your community.
From CPR to lifeguard classes, we have a program that helps you keep
your community safe and secure.
