Donations: Warren Consolidated School of Performing Arts The Warren Consolidated School of Performing Arts (WCSPA) is an award-winning, national recognized program specializing in all aspects of theatre performance and production. Classes involve a daily, two-hour, in-depth study program, set in a professional working environment. All classes are offered as part of the regular high school curriculum and are open to students at all three WCS high schools as well as a school of choice for students outside of the district. From dance, design and dramatic criticism to stage combat, Shakespeare and sound effects, students receive a complete theatre experience. In addition to daily classes with the assigned teaching staff, students are also exposed to visiting professionals, guest faculty, university workshops, field trips, theatre organizations and scholarship opportunities. Working together, students and staff produce at least four major productions each year; each are set in the district’s 800 seat Performing Arts Center. In addition to the four major plays and musical performances, students also experiment with smaller productions and original pieces in our 100 seat studio space. There are a limited amount of new openings to the program each year. Admission is based on an application and audition in the spring of the year prior to their admittance. Applications for 2011-2012 will be available at counseling centers second semester or can be downloaded directly from our website. For additional program or audition information visit our website at www.wcs.kids.net/wcspa or call the Performing Arts office at 586.825.2525. Warren Consolidated School of Performing Arts A Salute to our Family of Sponsors “We are such stuff as dreams are made on.” Over the years, our family of individual and corporate supporters have grown and played an essential role in providing us with the support to make this program the best it can be. It is with your help that we are able to showcase the talents of our students here tonight. The overall quality and diversity of our program would not be possible without the generous support of you and our community. We extend our sincere thanks and pay tribute to those who have made a significant investment in our past, present and future. It is with great pride on behalf of our entire staff that we salute our 20102011 sponsors and supporters. Thanks for a great season! Erik E. It opens with a troupe of actors preparing to open their comedic masterpiece in less than 24 hours. Much to the dismay of the play’s director, the “technical” rehearsal is a complete debacle. Act II commences with the “backstage view” of a performance of the show, with incomplete set pieces, missed entrances, and a whole array of other problems to solve. Love triangles, power struggles, absolute chaos and more from this show will keep you laughing all the way home! Winterfest-A Celebration of the Arts February 4-5, 2011 Winterfest is WCSPA’s annual celebration of the Performing Arts. This unique studentcentered performance blends dance, music, acting, and technical design to showcase the amazing talents of our students. You will be tapping your feet and singing along to many Broadway favorites as you enjoy solo features, duets, and group performances by all levels. Winterfest allows students to take on leadership and expand their creativity through directing, choreography, design and performance. Narnia-The Children’s Musical March 25-26, 2011 This lively children’s musical is based on C.S. Lewis’ timeless adventure “The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,” and follows the exploits of the four Pevensie siblings - Lucy, Edmund, Susan and Peter, who enter the world of Narnia through a magical wardrobe while playing a game of hide-and-seek in the rural country home of an elderly professor. Once there, the children discover a charming, peaceful land inhabited by talking beasts, dwarfs, fauns, centaurs and giants that has become a world cursed to eternal winter by the evil White Witch, Jadis. Under the guidance of a noble and mystical ruler, the lion Aslan, the children fight to overcome the White Witch’s powerful hold over Narnia. As a fantastical romp through timeless human themes, this show is a delight for children and adults of all ages. With a masterful musical score by Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schonberg and lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, Les Misérables is one of the most epic and profound musicals ever written. In this spell-binding musical drama, we come to grips with the social problem of inequality, which demands reflection upon the nature of society and, therefore, upon the nature of humankind. Hugo’s central character, Jean Valjean must be convinced, and convince others, that the poor, the outcast — the misérables — are worth saving; that even the most impudent street gamin has something to contribute to society and that even the most hardened convict is capable of great good. Lastly, the most appealing and enduring quality of Les Misérables is the fact that it is permeated by an unquenchable belief in the spiritual possibilities of man. 3 Thanks to the following families, friends and supporters that have offered the financial and emotional support to make this program possible. 27550 WOODWARD AVENUE ROYAL OAK, MICHIGAN 48067 248.548.4100 10% OFF PARTS and LABOR on any service work (excluding any service specials or maintenance items) not valid with any other discounts or coupons* * All prices plus tax and shop supplies.
