Inaugurations No. 77 P A R I S N E W S // J A N U A R Y 2 0 1 3 Your first trip to Paris? Then you just have to go on a tour of the city, whether aboard the little tourist train or on a guided tour. Looking for charm and tranquillity? A new hotel has just opened in one of the friendliest areas of Paris. Do you dream of becoming the chef at a restaurant? Paris makes it easy with a new cooking concept open to the public, amateur or professional. And for light snacks, a great new little organic canteen that everyone is talking about. Leisure // Discovering Paris aboard a little tourist train The company Another Paris has just launched a new product to get to the heart of the French capital: visits with commentary aboard a little train! Visitors can choose from five themed circuits with the evocative names of Royal, Savant, Artiste, Elégant and Bohème to discover the rich heritage of the French capital. From the great works of the ‘builder kings’ to the life of artists of the recent past, the different itineraries take tourists off the beaten tracks. The little blue train has the advantage of being able to thread its way through numerous little streets, off major roads, getting right into the city. A fun outing for all the family, the little train has comfortable banquettes to sit on. It can also accommodate up to two wheelchairs. The tour is available for individuals and groups (from 20 to 56 people) and commentaries are available in English, German, Spanish and Italian, besides French. A great way of discovering the different districts of Paris … safely and serenely! > Another Paris www.another-paris.com A new tour of Paris for an introduction to the French capital The company Cab Service Prestige, already well-known for its transport services such as transfers, private excursions and travel, now offers a new service: a guided tour of Paris for individuals, in small groups (from 4 to 6 people), leaving from the Paris Convention and Visitors Bureau. On five days of the week, a qualified tour guide will accompany visitors for a whole morning aboard a chauffeur-driven minibus: the Louvre, Palais Garnier Opera House, Place Vendôme, the Champs-Élysées, Invalides, Eiffel Tower … Also visited, but on foot this time, are Notre-Dame, the Marais, Place des Vosges and Montmartre. The tour ends at the Eiffel Tower and includes a cruise on the Seine. To skip the queues and visit the monument, visitors should book their ticket in advance. Afterwards, they will have seen most of Paris in a single day, an ideal plan for people on a short stay. > Cab Service Prestige Tel +33 (0) 1 75 62 01 63 www.cabservice-prestige.com Accommodation // A new discreet and comfortable hotel, between the canal and the Marais The former hotel Notre Dame, which closed two years ago, has been replaced by the hotel Le Mareuil, an establishment full of charm a few steps from Place de la République and the canal Saint-Martin. Behind its facade, everything has been fully-refurbished from the attic to the cellar! The 35 classic or superior guest rooms, and the junior suite, look out onto the small typically Parisian street with its harmoniously aligned facades. Architect and decorator Vincent Bastie has chosen blue and green shades as the common thread throughout ParisNews // the Paris convention and visitors bureau n0. 77 // inaugurations // JANUARY 2013 1 the hotel, and carpets with motifs. Here and there, little splashes of violet or orange, and lenticular works (with 3D effect) in the corridors add a touch of humour. The well-being of hotel guests is of prime importance: organic welcome products, superior quality bedding, NightCove lamp to go to sleep and wake-up gently according to natural sleep rhythms, organic buffet breakfast, fitness area with Power Plate, spa, hammam and oxygenation station, etc. Several guest rooms have communicating doors, and child-care equipment is also available for families to make their stay easier. Finally, an unusual detail, the digital jukebox in the lounge and fitness room enables guests to choose the musical atmosphere that suits the time of day or their mood, from among 700 tracks. > Le Mareuil 51 rue de Malte, Paris 11th Tel +33 (0) 1 47 00 78 76 www.hotelmareuil.com Gastronomy // Chef for a day: who would like to take over the reins of the restaurant? This atypical restaurant offers the public the opportunity to become a chef for a day. An unforgettable experience! Usually people are attracted to this idea by a desire to cook for others; sometimes they have no real knowledge of cooking but the curiosity and the wish to learn lead them to enrol for this day and embark on an adventure. The company ‘Un jour, un chef’ is both dynamic and pedagogic, and can adapt to the wishes of candidates. Recipes may be tried and tested ones or, on the contrary, ideas to experiment with. The cook Ludovic Delavaud is attentive to candidates and can adapt to all types of situations. The experience lasts for a day, starting in the morning with the devising of recipes, then the serving of lunch, right up to the evening with the serving of dinner. Even non-French speakers are welcome as the team speaks English. In the dining room, the restaurant is open every day of the year like a normal restaurant with a permanent menu of classic dishes like terrine or steak, and a menu that changes according to the day’s chef: African menu, Russian menu or even an all-chocolate menu. Becoming a chef for a day is free and open to everyone, and for those intimidated by the experience, there is always the restaurant, which offers wonderful surprises and discoveries every day. > Un jour, un chef 4 rue Biscornet, Paris 12th Tel +33 (0) 1 43 43 00 08 www.1jour1chef.com The Café Pinson for pleasure and healthy eating A little address that is attracting a lot of attention in these snowy days of winter. Surrounded by wonderful planting, this museum, also called the Musée des Arts Premiers, houses unique collections representative of the arts and civilizations of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas. With a nod to the Eiffel Tower, the museum, by architect Jean Nouvel, has been designed like a metallic bridge over a garden with a surface area of 18,000 m2, designed by landscape artist Gilles Clément. The building, which presents 3,500 objects out of a total collection of 300,000, puts on many themed exhibitions in addition to the permanent exhibition, as well as numerous cultural events. Situated in a wing of the Palais de Chaillot, the Musée national de la Marine exhibits models produced for Louis XV. These unique pieces reflect what was a spectacular transformation of the national war fleet at the beginning of the 18th Century. The five rows of vessels presented were at that time one of the most powerful naval fleets in the world along with the British Royal Navy. However, the museum does not only explore the past. It offers a broad historic perspective, from the time of the creation of huge sailing ships (of which certain choice pieces, like the prows, are superbly exhibited) right up to the creation of the modern navy, with its aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines. Several galleries are also devoted to the height of Naval Aviation and the role of this type of aviation during the major conflicts of the 20th century. Several multimedia documents retrace in detail this exciting human and technological adventure. Its 43 tanks containing 4 million litres of water are home to 500 species of fish and invertebrates (some 10,000 specimens excluding plant life). Much more than an aquarium, Cinéaqua offers a tour of the underwater world over a 3,500 m2 itinerary. The Polynesian tank alone has 600 corals, and the big tank, crossed through an impressive tunnel, contains 30 sharks of four different species in 3 million litres of water. Its 500,000-litre Aquastudio provides a unique vision of the underwater world with its 34-cm-thick window and weighing 24 tons. This unusual place is also an original events venue: exhibitions by painters are photographers are renewed each month, and talks or film screenings take place in the two cinema auditoriums. The aquarium regularly offers shows (puppets, theatre, dance, etc.) on the theme of the marine world for children and adults.
