SHORT SYNOPSIS: In an effort to escape her past and build a better future, Olive (Milla Jovovich), an attractive European con-­‐artist, and her 10-­‐year-­‐old American-­‐born son, Bobby (Spencer List), find themselves living in Oklahoma. But as Olive and Bobby blithely charm their way from one comical adventure to another, Olive's criminal past finally catches up with her, forcing her to make the toughest judgment of all. LONG SYNOPSIS: In an effort to escape her murky past and build a better future, Olive (Milla Jovovich), a nomadic European con-­‐artist, and her 10-­‐year-­‐old American-­‐born son, Bobby (Spencer List), find themselves living in Oklahoma. As her top priority, Olive seeks to give Bobby the things she never had: she enrolls him in school, makes him do his homework and tries her hardest to be a good mother, and with the help of an old friend from Oklahoma, Walt (Rory Cochrane), Olive "provides" for Bobby in the only way she knows how. But despite her efforts (or perhaps because of them) Bobby displays troubling behavior both at his school and in their conservative neighborhood. Things take a turn for the worse after Bobby’s unfortunate run-­‐in with local and wealthy businessman Kent (Bill Pullman), and Olive’s criminal past finally catches up with her, forcing her to make the toughest judgment of all. ABOUT THE PRODUCTION: Bringing Up Bobby was shot in and around Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in the summer of 2010. It was shot in 22 days and made use of the Oklahoma tax credit. The film is a Dutch co-­‐production and has four key Dutch crew: Famke Janssen (Writer, Director, Producer), Sofia Sondervan (Producer), Guido Van Gennep (Cinematographer) and Job Terburg (Editor). CAST BIOS: MILLA JOVOVICH (OLIVE) Milla Jovovich has successfully established herself as a highly regarded, international model and actress. Jovovich, (pronounced “mee-­‐luh” “yo-­‐vo-­‐vitch”) has transitioned effortlessly to a full time actress, starring in over two dozen films. Star of the “Resident Evil” franchise, Jovovich reprises her role as “Alice” in the fifth installment of the film, currently in production. In the previous installment, “Resident Evil: Afterlife,” Alice is on a mission to save survivors in from falling victim to the Undead in a world ravaged by a virus infection. Written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, the film was released nationwide on September 10, 2010, and has grossed over $295 million worldwide. Jovovich also appears in “The Three Musketeers 3D” where she portrays “Milady de Winter,” alongside an international cast that includes Christoph Waltz, Matthew Macfadyen, Mads Mikkelsen and Juno Temple. In February 2011, Jovovich starred in the Russian language romantic comedy “Vykrutasy,” which opened in Russia at Number 1 after starring alongside Academy Award winner Robert DeNiro and Academy Award nominee Edward Norton in “Stone” in October 2010. At the age of eleven, Jovovich was spotted by photographer Richard Avedon, who featured her in Revlon's “Most Unforgettable Women in the World” advertisements. In October 1987, she was on the cover of the Italian fashion magazine Lei, her first of many covers. In 1988, she signed her first professional modeling contract. Milla's early modeling led to acting roles, and in 1988 she appeared in her first film role in the romance thriller “Two Moon Junction”. Her first leading role was in “Return to the Blue Lagoon” in 1991, for which she was nominated for the “Best Young Actress Starring in a Motion Picture” in the 1991 Young Artist Awards. She appeared on some TV shows around this time and also in the films “Kuffs” (1992), “Chaplin” (1992), and “Dazed and Confused” (1993). Milla's breakout role was as “Leeloo,” the perfect being in Luc Besson's “The Fifth Element” (1997). She later starred in several other action movies, such as “Ultraviolet” (2006), “A Perfect Getaway” (2009), and “The Fourth Kind” (2009). Milla has also been in several comedies and dramas, including Spike Lee's “He Got Game” (1998), “The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc” (1999), “The Claim” (2000), “The Million Dollar Hotel” (2000), “Zoolander” (2001), “Dummy” (2003), “No Good Deed” (2003) and “You Stupid Man” (2003). BILL PULLMAN (KENT) Bill Pullman started acting professionally in New York theater in 1983, and shortly after began his film career which currently spans nearly fifty features. His movie work includes blockbuster comedies (“Ruthless People”, “Spaceballs”, “Casper”), dramas (“The Serpent and the Rainbow”, “The Accidental Tourist”, “Igby Goes Down”), romantic comedies (“Sleepless in Seattle”, “While You Were Sleeping”), action (“Independence Day”), thrillers (“Malice”), westerns (“The Virginian”, “Wyatt Earp”), film noir (“The Last Seduction”, “Lost Highway”, “The Zero Effect”), and horror (“The Grudge”). More recent films include: “Killer Inside Me” (with Casey Affleck), “Rio Sex Comedy” (with Irene Jacob and Charlotte Rampling), “Bottle Shock” (with Alan Rickman), “Phoebe in Wonderland” (with Elle Fanning and Felicity Huffman), “Surveillance” (with Julia Ormond) and “Your Name Here” (a fantasia on the last days of author Philip K. Bill received a BA from the State University College at Oneonta, and an MFA in Theater Directing from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He taught in the Theater Department at Montana State University in Bozeman for two years before heading to New York. Just as the 22nd President of the United States became the 24th with a second, non-­‐consecutive term, Pullman is set for his second go-­‐round in the Oval Office; having starred 17 years ago as the fighter jet-­‐flying commander in chief in Independence Day, he is back as president in NBC's new family comedy 1600 Penn which takes place at the White House. MARCIA CROSS (MARY) Marcia Cross stars in the smash hit television series “Desperate Housewives.” In 2005 and 2006 she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award in the Best Actress category. She was also nominated for an Emmy Award in the Best Actress in a Comedy Series category in 2005. She appeared in the feature film “Just Peck,” a comedy starring Adam Arkin, Camryn Manheim, Keir Gilchrist and Brie Larson. Prior to her role on “Desperate Housewives,” Cross starred as Dr. Linda Abbott on The WB’s critically-­‐acclaimed series, “Everwood.” She is also well known for her role as Dr. Kimberly Shaw on the hit drama “Melrose Place.” Born and raised in Marlborough, Massachusetts, Cross was determined to become an actress from the moment she performed in her first school play, “The Witch of Blackbird Pond,” in the sixth grade. At the age of 18 she was accepted at the Juilliard School as a Drama major. On stage Cross performed in “La Ronde” at the Williamstown Theater Festival, in “Twelfth Night” at the Hartford Stage Company, and in “Two Gentlemen of Verona” at the Old Globe in San Diego. Her first television job was on the daytime drama “The Edge of Night.” Leaving New York to try her luck in Los Angeles, Cross was soon landing roles in television movies such as “The Last Days of Frank and Jessie James,” co-­‐starring with Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson. Her memorable role on “Melrose Place” began when she was hired for one episode. The producers were so impressed that they kept asking her back for additional appearances, eventually bringing her character back from the dead to continue on the hit show. Cross also guest-­‐starred on such series as “Seinfeld,” where she played Jerry’s dermatologist girlfriend, and “Cheers,” where she portrayed the younger sister to Kirstie Alley’s character. She has also appeared on the comedies “Ally McBeal,” “Spin City,” “The Garry Shandling Show” and “King of Queens.” Her dramatic roles include appearances on “CSI,” “Profiler” and “Touched by an Angel,” and her film credits include “”Living in Fear,” “Always Say Good-­‐bye,” “Dancing in September” and “Bad Influence.” Aside from her successful career as an actress, Cross has also made time to continue her education, completing her clinical training to earn a Masters Degree in Psychology. She makes her home in Los Angeles with her husband and two daughters. RORY COCHRANE (WALT) Rory Cochrane was born in New York and spent much of his childhood in England. He eventually returned to New York City to study at the La Guardia High School of Performing Arts. Rory’s first performance was playing Jeff Goldblum’s son in the well-­‐received film, “FATHERS AND SONS”. He soon followed this up with a stand-­‐out performance in Richard Linklater’s film classic, “DAZED AND CONFUSED” as ‘Slater’, the young comedic stoner. After this breakthrough performance, Rory created another tour-­‐de-­‐force role as a crazed tattooed killer in “LOVE AND A .45” opposite Renee Zellweger, and the following year starred as ‘Lucas’ in the cult classic “EMPIRE RECORDS” opposite Liv Tyler. Other notable films followed including; “THE LOW LIFE” and “DOGTOWN” for director George Hickenlooper, Art Linson’s “SUNSET STRIP”, Joel Schumacher’s “FLAWLESS” opposite Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Robert De Niro, “HART’S WAR” opposite Colin Farrell and Bruce Willis, and “THE PRIME GIG” opposite Vince Vaughn and Ed Harris. On television, Rory played the lead character ‘Tim Speedle’ opposite David Caruso for two years in the #1 rated CBS show CSI: MIAMI. Rory followed this up with a critically lauded performance in THE COMPANY produced by Ridley Scott for TNT. He played the double spy ‘Yevgeny’ opposite Chris O’Donnell and Michael Keaton. Rory gave an intense performance in the indie thriller “RIGHT AT YOUR DOOR” opposite Mary McCormick for director Chris Gorak, and later that year re-­‐teamed with director Richard Linklater on the acclaimed “A SCANNER DARKLY” playing the lead role of ‘Charles Freck’ opposite Robert Downey, Jr. Recently, Rory starred opposite Johnny Depp in Michael Mann’s “PUBLIC ENEMIES” as ‘Carter Baum’, charged with taking down the infamous outlaw, as well as in the Fox series ‘24’ opposite Kiefer Sutherland and Jon Voight. SPENCER LIST (BOBBY) Spencer List co-­‐starred in the indie horror “FORECLOSURE”, opposite Michael Imperioli and Wendell Pierce, and starred opposite his twin sister and fellow thesp Peyton List in the indie horror thriller “BEREAVEMENT”. Famke Janssen (Writer/Director)
As an actress Janssen is currently starring opposite Jeremy Renner in “Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters” for Paramount. Prior to that, she starred opposite James Gandolfini in the independent film, “KIDDIE RIDE” and alongside Ellen Barkin in “THE CHAMELEON”. Janssen shot the independent film, “THE WACKNESS”, opposite Ben Kinsley, which premiered at the Sundance Festival in January of 2008. Last year, Ms. Janssen shot three back to back projects: “TAKEN”, opposite Liam Neeson, for 20th Century Fox, directed by Pierre Morel, the lead in the Untitled Shore/Blake pilot for NBC as a female cop, directed by Tony Goldwyn and she top-­‐lined Jonathan Sanger’s 100 FEET, which shot in Budapest for six weeks. Janssen starred in “X-­‐Men 3,” directed by Brett Ratner, for Twentieth Century Fox where she reprised her role as Jean Grey. She also starred in "X-­‐Men" and "X-­‐2" both directed by Bryan Singer. The "X-­‐Men" blockbusters all-­‐star cast includes Sir Ian McKellan, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, James Marsden and Anna Paquin. Janssen received a Saturn Award for best supporting actress for “X3”. Janssen was awarded with Special Jury Best Actress Prize at Hamptons Film Festival this year for her work in “Turn the River”. Previous credits include William Malone's "House on Haunted Hill" opposite Geoffrey Rush for Warner Brothers, Robert Rodriguez' "The Faculty," John Dahl's "Rounders" opposite Edward Norton and Matt Damon for Miramax, and Woody Allen's "Celebrity," opposite Kenneth Branagh and Leonardo DiCaprio for Miramax. In 2010, the Company completed a 50 city release including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas for the
acclaimed Trucker starring Michelle Monaghan, Nathan Fillion and Benjamin Bratt (chosen by Roger Ebert as one of the
ten best independent films of 2009). For Endgame, from the 2009 Sundance Film Festival starring Academy Award
winner William Hurt, monterey created a theatrical release in 30 cities (even after a PBS airing) garnering a Best Actor
Golden Globe nomination for co-star Chiwetel Ejifor. The action/adventure/romance The Red Baron starring Joseph
Fiennes and Lena Headey launched in Los Angeles at Mann’s Chinese on as well as Phoenix, Detroit, San Diego,
Portland, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Jacksonville, Louisville and others, while Lovely, Still starring Academy Award Winners
Martin Landau and Ellen Burstyn opened 45 cities including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Phoenix, Detroit,
Philadelphia, Ft. Lauderdale, Denver and San Diego.
The philosophy of doing good while doing well is practically a mantra at monterey media, and in addition to its ritual
support of charitable organizations the company has developed a program entitled A Weekend of Unity & Peace. Last
