excitement, fun and action
aimed to make every
member of the family
smile. The event takes
place at the Round Lake
Recreation Park, 545
Albert Street in Round
Lake Centre on Saturday,

The festival runs from

starts with the Junior Loggers - a
new event this year. Boys and
girls ages 8 to 12 years will
compete in nail drive, buck saw,

dressed loggers will be
recognized.
MC Dai Bassett keeps things
moving with his wit when the
big guys step up to compete in
tree felling, log cutting, tea boil,
speed cutting, pulp toss and
chair carving. Terry McLeish
entertains with original songs
including “The Loggers Song.”
Experienced Canadian
bushman, Gord McMilland will
be present with his stories and
pictures of the Valley's animals
and birds, trees, plants and
waters. There's skating, bonfires
and free hot dogs and hot
chocolate plus a special local
treat. This event showcases not
only our areas rich heritage, but
also its strong and vibrant
community spirit.

Help Create A Legacy
The Killaloe natural play space
A group of local citizens is
fundraising for an innovative
new play space. Currently, the
only playgrounds in Killaloe are
at the schools meaning there are
no dedicated public spaces to
enjoy the outdoors.
Parks are where friendships are
forged. When people regularly
walk to, and enjoy, public spaces
they support build a sense of
community. Children being seen
and heard in shared public
spaces is the hallmark of a vital
community, according to Play
Policy UK.
Improving parks positively
affects local economies. Trails
and green spaces can become
community trademarks,
reinforcing civic pride and
community reputation. Public
parks stimulate tourism and
recreation-related spending and
bolster property values.
Natural play spaces are a hot
trend with young families today.
Their inexpensive and simple
designs offer children more than
conventional play structures.
David Suzuki found that “kids
spend twice as much time
playing, use their imaginations
more and engage in more
aerobic and strengthening
activities when the space
incorporates natural elements
like logs, flowers and small
streams.”
The committee is working to
match a grant that township
received for this project. You can
donate at the CIBC in Killaloe or
search online for the Killaloe
Natural Play Space on the True
North Strong website.
Help create a legacy for the
children!
