Help Create A Legacy The Killaloe natural play space A group of local citizens is fundraising for an innovative new play space. Currently, the only playgrounds in Killaloe are at the schools meaning there are no dedicated public spaces to enjoy the outdoors. Parks are where friendships are forged. When people regularly walk to, and enjoy, public spaces they support build a sense of community. Children being seen and heard in shared public spaces is the hallmark of a vital community, according to Play Policy UK. Improving parks positively affects local economies. Trails and green spaces can become community trademarks, reinforcing civic pride and community reputation. Public parks stimulate tourism and recreation-related spending and bolster property values. Natural play spaces are a hot trend with young families today. Their inexpensive and simple designs offer children more than conventional play structures. David Suzuki found that “kids spend twice as much time playing, use their imaginations more and engage in more aerobic and strengthening activities when the space incorporates natural elements like logs, flowers and small streams.” The committee is working to match a grant that township received for this project. You can donate at the CIBC in Killaloe or search online for the Killaloe Natural Play Space on the True North Strong website. Help create a legacy for the children!
