VARAŽDIN TEHNOLOGY PARK (VΛ::TechPark)
Varaždin Technology Park Ltd. is a company that deals with the establishment of incubation center for innovative start-up companies, establishment of a mechanism for improvement of existing technologically innovative companies, improvement of transfer of knowledge
from universities and development centers into the economy, networking of companies, educational institutions, development agencies and innovative individuals, and change of perception towards
innovation as a foundation of new economy.
FOUNDERS
The founders of Varaždin Technology Park are the City of Varaždin, the Faculty of Organization and Informatics and University of Applied Sciences in Varaždin. The project was launched
in 2003 and the legal entity was incorporated in 2007. The cofinancing of the project has been
provided by the government agency BICRO (Business Innovation Center of Croatia) since 27
November.2007. The cofinancing refers to building reconstruction (3,300 m2) and operating
expences.
Varaždin Technology Park is a regional partner of the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN) for 5
northwestern counties of Croatia.
INCUBATION AND PROJECT RESULTS
By 2009, more than 35 companies had gone through the incubation process. Several companies that have succesfully completed the incubation process employ over 100 development
engineers. Most of the companies in the Varaždin Technology Park are export oriented and
have very competitive products in the world market, most of them being from the ICT sector.
Several foreign companies had also completed the incubation process and transfered their
development activities to Croatia. Two companies that entered the Varaždin Technology park
Varaždin as start-ups, purchased land in the entrepreneurship zone of the City of Varaždin in
2008, for the purpose of building their own business premises. Today there are 22 technologically innovative companies in the Technology Park which employ over 250 employees,
and 3 supporting institutions (the Microsoft innovation center, a marketing agency and an
employment agency).
VARAŽDIN TECHNOLOGY PARK SERVICES
The recognition of technological innovation is followed by incorporation of the company
that will carry the project. The Technology Park provides the business infrastructure (office,
Internet connection, meeting rooms, equipment, labs and everything necessary for commercialization) and the package of consulting services necessary for development. All the services are available at benefited prices in accordance with the period of incubation process (25%
in the 1st year, 50% in the 2nd and 75 % in the 3rd). The Varaždin Technology Park also offers
rental of the virtual office where the user has the right to use the common infrastructure
(address, phone, fax machine, accounting, meeting rooms, etc.) but his office is not located
inside the premises of the Varaždin Technology Park.

Biodiesel production consists of the following
technological entities:
Technological process of biodiesel production of the planned capacity of
100,000 tons per year and the quality of the product in accordance with the
standards HRN EN 14214 requests a complex fully automated plant with a
continuous production, in order to achieve better economy of production.
The plant is a closed unit where raw vegetable oil is processed to produce desired products. Potential waste is reduced to the minimum possible extent.

Parksys is currently the only known system in the world that allows you to record
availability of each individual parking place in the open and in indoor parking areas. System provides information on the state of every parking place in real time in
the form of light signaling (green-red). It is enabled by LED lights embedded in the
groundwork of each parking place (“LED STUD“ with red and green light emitting
diodes) whose light signal is visible from a distance of hundred meters in almost all
weather conditions.
This significantly increases the safety of traffic because it prevents the sudden braking and turning in typical situations of late spotting of a free parking space. Information about availability of each parking space is available through PARKSYS -- VDS
sensors built into it’s groundwork. This information is transferred to a database via
GPRS that is accessible via the Internet to the widest circle of potential users. For
ach street it is possible to further visualize guiding systems and traffic signs with
information about the direction and number of parking spaces.
Parksys ultimately serves as the infrastructure for systems of greater complexity, which can be based on a number of applications, and SMS, navigation, and internet services,
all in order of improving the quality of transport in urban areas and reducing air pollution.

Klinfo.hr is designed as a useful service for parents with an overview of events
for children throughout the entire Croatia. This is the first and the only online
service and guide of its kind and the only independent Internet portal for a

Evolva d.o.o. – history
Evolva Ltd. was founded in early 2008. The core business is providing customized
software solutions tailored towards the client, especially Web-based applications
written in Java. One of the more complicated projects of the company is development of a converter that converts desktop applications written in the old 4GL tools
into web based applications created on its own Java/XML based framework. Larger part of the company’s resources is investing in the provision of IT services. That’s
why the first business year of Evolve Ltd. was characterized with a very demanding
project which was successfully delivered. It was creating a graphic interface system of traffic flow on the highways for the company Telegra Ltd. The system included the implementation of vectorial GIS visualization and highway traffic knots
with the dynamic traffic performance indicators, the implementation of various
mathematical methods for processing and updating of traffic data and automatic
creation of complex reports in PDF and Excel format with the appropriate graphs.
Meanwhile Evolva has created a software for managing sales of POS housing and
administration of reserves, which includes making of installment plans and supporting documentation (all functions of document management through a web
application are included), and client financial tracking and reporting. Evolva Ltd.
has also taken over most of the tasks of the trade Evolva – IT services, established in
2003, so it continues the cooperation with Privredna banka Zagreb d.d.
the project of information of legal affairs, and begins work on the application for
supervision of sessions of the management board and other bodies in the bank.
Evolva is successfully cooperating with the firm Metronet Telecommunications
d.d. for which the application for coordination of field groups was developed.
That was a continuence of an earlier cooperation when a web portal for Metronet’ services users was delivered. Due to the increase in volume of work and improvement of the organization, Evolva developed a new product in 2008 - Evolva
Time Management Software (TMS Evolva) – application which the company uses
every day for easy and clear planning of projects and monitoring their realization.
Clients of Evolve can on request also receive access information for this application, and themselves at any time have access to the insight of the work that is being done on their project, thus further increasing the quality of service delivered
to clients.
2009- started very successful for Evolva with the continuence of the cooperation
with previous clients in the form of upgrades to existing systems and contracting
new projects, and have started new projects for clients such as making a new
web site for Faculty of Geotechnical Engineering in Varaždin. Evolva has also
launched several projects aimed at sales of own products which are in the stage
of preparation for entering the market.

Floxia Ltd. was established in 2005 and has operated within the Varazdin Technology Park since the very beginning. Basic services that the company Floxia Ltd. offers
are software products development, system integration, consulting services and
education services.
Floxia Ltd. also makes profit in software products development intended for designers in building industry with special emphasis on projects of thermal and noise
protection applicable by HRN and EN standards.
Meanwhile, the company developed several software products that effectively
represent the standard in this field in Croatia. We can especially point out the successful cooperation with Institut Građevinarstva Hrvatske. A software product
IGH thermal protection, which was used to design a whole series of construction
projects in the Republic of Croatia was later developed with them.
Given that the application IGH thermal protection has a broad area of use and
is meant for design of complex projects in construction, Floxia developed a software solution for project budget calculation for thermal protection for family
houses and small volume objects under 400m2 calles Thermia.
Floxia Ltd. has successfully cooperated with leading manufacturers of building
material in the field of thermal and noise protection, such as: Röfix Ltd., Knauf
Insulation Ltd., Samobor, Okipor Ltd.
During 2008 Floxia Ltd. designed, produced and implemented a software solution for the calculation of heat budget coefficient for Röfix Ltd. The specificity of
thus software solution is the use of Internet and Web applications as the basic
environment in which an application is developed.
Furthermore, in 2008 the company started a project in cooperation with the
Construction Chamber and the Ministry of Environment, environmental planning and construction related to building energy certification card in accordance with the EPBD recommendations (EPBD - European Energy Performance
of Buildings Directive). The idea of the project is to enable authorized certificators tracking and issuing of energy certificats for existing and new buildings.
In 2009 the company continues a successful cooperation with the Institute of
Civil Engineering of Croatia and developed a version 2.0 of a software product
IGH thermal protection.

Thermia
IGH 2.0 Thermal protection application was developed for the Institute of Civil Engineering of
Croatia as support for the production of thermal
protection according to the laws and HRN EN
standards. Budget algorithms were prepared and
adapted by Department of Building for the Institute of Civil Engineering of Croatia. The program
allows the implementation of all relevant proof of
fulfilling the requirements regarding thermal energy savings and thermal protection according to
Croatian standards which are accepted European
standards indicated in the Technical regulation.
Thermal resistance and the coefficient of heat
passage of construction parts of the building are
calculated by HRN EN ISO 6946:2002, and for transparent building elements (windows, doors) according to HRN EN ISO 10077 -- 1:2002. To project
the value of heat conductivity the data from the
HRN EN ISO 12524:2002 and Table 5 of the Technical regulations is used. The check of building
parts with respect to surface condensation and
environment with mold and condensation within
the building parts (diffusion of water vapor) is conducted according to HRN EN ISO 13788:2002. Heat
losses through building parts in contact with land
management are estimated according to HRN EN
ISO 13370:2002. As a result of working with application IGH Thermal protection an output project
which represents a building description in relation
to thermal energy saving and thermal protection
is received.
Thermia computer program was developed in
the company Floxia Ltd. in collaboration with the
Institute of Civil Engineering of Croatia in Zagreb.
The program is intended for building designers as a professional support in implementing
the requirements of the Technical regulations of
thermal energy savings and thermal protection of
buildings during the design. Program allows the
implementation of fulfillment of all relevant evidence and requirements regarding thermal energy savings and thermal protection according to
Croatian standards which are accepted European
standards indicated in technical regulation.
Röfix U-value calculator
Röfix U-value calculator is a Web application intended for the calculation of thermal coefficient
of building parts. The application is meant to be
a support for designers to independently calculate thermal coefficient.
According to certain pre-defined solutions of
the company Röfix with the possibility of arbitrary adding further material appearing on the
market. Each user must log in the application allowing the storage of projects with the possibility of subsequent re-viewing, modification and
printing.

BIG – Baza Imovine Grada (City Assets Base)
City Assets Base is unique information system in Croatia that allows records,
analysis and display of city property on geodetic surfaces. The system enables
management of data registries and data on usage, costs and revenues for each
property unit and user-defined reporting and performance analysis. This way
the public administration has access to accurate information about the property at all time so they can manage and direct their resources to creating new
values and be more efficient.
BIG is a web application developed in PHP with Oracle database. It is completely
platform independent, and in the case of the City of Varaždin installed on Linux
RedHat operating system and Apache application server. For optimization, robustness and performance AJAX technology is used. Reports are generated in
PDF format and are independent of platform and software. They can be used to
distribute in digital form, presentations or publications on the Internet pages.
The system was developed based on models of asset management, created by
PRLS in cooperation with local governments in Croatia and serves as the basis
for effective and efficient use of new management technology. This model introduces a new systematic approach to increasing the efficient use of assets
which is owned by or available to local governments.
GIS-GV
Meritum Soft Ltd. together with a partner started the development and design of
GIS-GV information system intended for city administration staff for the purpose
of insight, acquiring, analyzing and maintaining current information on environment and design plans in 2008. It is a standalone system that uses an existing platform, and communicates with already developed systems of other administrative
departments of the City of Varaždin.
The system is based on the cutting edge GIS technology with a database that will
build the collection and processing of data of their own, outside of official information (SGA, the Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Economy, ...), especially prepared
existing external data (digital orthophoto, HOK, cadastral map, topographic map),
and data related utilities with their infrastructure.
Maintaining and updating the system as well as any defined data exchange will,
to a large extent, be by applying the principles of interoperability through appropriate service.
The primary goal of the system is to enable relevant geodetic technical and descriptive view of city areas, from which you can find out the current situation in
the area. The system enables you to view and analyse environmental planning
documents and documents for monitoring the situation in the area.
Solution is Win32 desktop, with Oracle SDO as a database for spatial data.

Trending Ltd. was founded in 1991. From the previous period before GPRS technology, we can point out
the project of digital telemetry on 100 switchboards for T-Com, management of sirens for alerting the fire
units, creating software for oil pipeline designing for a Danish company etc. For Tisak jsc. we created system enabling retailers to send orders, inventory and daily reports through mobile application to central
branch, what made previous paper based reporting system much faster. Besides that, we have invented
intelligent solution for document scanning (inventory sheets, orders). In that way, thousands of documents were automatically entered into the database through a special scanner in an hour or two. On the
other hand, for the manual input several workmen should have worked several days. Currently, we work
on creating advanced tracking system for vehicles (mobilisis) and system for controlling and management
of ramps, doors and similar through GSM controller, eliminating the need for remote controllers, because
devices are managed by mobile phones.
Using that GSM controller, various devices are tracked or managed: vehicles, ramps, doors, hot and cold
beverages machines, distance sensors, sonar, salt spreader, plow, parking sensors, bar code readers,
weather stations, video cameras and similar. The most important think is that all data from any connected
device users can easily and promptly browse through an online portal no matter where they are and without any additional software.

Mobilisis system includes the most modern system for vehicles in which is integrated a module for monitoring, alarm, driver identification, navigation, communication, monitoring of engine and fuel consumption,
tracking the level of fuel in the tanks, and other parameters to user’s needs. A basic difference in comparison
to other systems is a system of communication between drivers and dispatcher, where dispatcher can send
the driver work orders with the address that the driver can accept, and navigation system navigates the
driver to that address, without the need that driver inputs the address in the navigation system. In that way,
the PDA device can monitor the engine parameters, useful information, the position of other vehicles etc. .
