six times along with Chelsea Burke (2),
Fern Scrivens, Jenny Selman and Bex
Shaw as Oughtibridge recorded a double
figure victory for the sixth time and in doing

Hamil Road Ladies are one of a select group of teams that have made an unbeaten
start to 2014 as they continue to fly high in the Staffordshire County Women's League.
The Valiants currently sit fourth in the league and could climb into first position
if they make the most of their fixtures in hand, but the possibility of a title challenge is
somewhat remarkable considering the team were formed less than two months before
the season started.
Hamil Road Ladies are the official women's representative team of Port Vale
Football Club and were formed in July 2013 under the guidance of the Port Vale
Community Trust. The team were developed from scratch and initially had no players,
no funding and did not even have access to a strip as manager Martyn Cooke explained.
"We made a decision at the Community Trust that a professional football club
like Port Vale needed a women's representative team," he said. "However, we literally
started with nothing and we formed the club without even having any players
registered. We ran an open day at the end of June which attracted over twenty players
and it just took off from there."
The team now have twenty registered players who train twice a week, are
provided with full training strips and who have helped the club to flourish in their debut
season. But Cooke is keen to direct any praise towards his playing squad: "I think that
all the credit should go to the players. We are fortunate enough to have brought
together a group of extremely talented, passionate and hard working players at the
club and it is their effort and hard work which has allowed them to shine this year.
"There is a real unity and great team spirit amongst the squad and their attitude
and application has been fantastic since day one."
Current captain Victoria Atherton provides a players' perspective of the club.
"The club offered us a friendly environment to play football and develop as players,"
she said. "The coaching staff dedicate a lot of time and energy to support and motivate
us as players. They give us the courage to take risks, trust our team mates and I
believe that the coaching we receive is of a really high standard which allows us to
keep learning and developing."
Hamil Road Ladies are also unique in terms of their philosophy. The club places
no emphasis on results and instead chooses to focus on developing players.
"We don't put any pressure
on the players to get results,"
Cooke explains "For us it's all
about spending time developing
players and encouraging them to
play positive football through the
thirds.
"We try to create a positive
environment where the focus is on
enjoyment and we provide all our
players with a minimum of 45
minutes of playing time in every
match."
And what about talk about a title challenge? "It's already been a fantastic
season for us," Martyn replies. "We'll just take it one game at a time!"

Northern Division
Nottingham Forest bounced back from their midweek defeat to win
3-1 at Blackburn Rovers and move to within four points of Northern
Division leaders Sheffield FC.
Blackburn started the game well but it
was in-form Forest striker Amber Hughes who
was to score twice in a five-minute spell leading
up to half time to put her side two goals ahead.
After the break, Kirsty Allen netted a third for
Forest before Rovers grabbed a consolation
through Nichol Forster.
Stoke City remain in line for a top three
place after they defeated Leeds Utd 2-1. Leeds
got off to a great start when Emma Bentley gave
them a sixth minute lead, which they held until
half time. Early in the second half, Stoke were
back on level terms when Natasha Tezgel Kirsty Allen scores Nottingham Forest’s third goal
headed in from a corner. Another set piece led
against Blackburn Rovers.
to Stoke going in front, this time through a
header from Meg Bowyer, and Nicole Dale twice went close late on as Stoke
secured their eighth win of the season.
Sporting Club Albion leapt back into fourth place on the back of a 3-0
victory over Preston North End. Kayleigh Griffiths, Robyn James and Leah Rawle
were all on the scoresheet to help their side climb above two teams including their
opponents.
Bradford City look to have banished any lingering fears of relegation and
will be setting their sights on a top half place following their 2-0 win away to Derby
County. City took the lead with just two minutes on the clock through Charlotte
Stuart and they wrapped up a fine win midway through the second half when Sarah
Danby scored the second goal.

Southern Division
Cardiff City Ladies held on to the leadership of the Southern Division with a 3-2
victory over Portsmouth, who had started the day level on points with the South
Wales side.
It was Cardiff who led at half time through a seventeenth minute goal from
Lauren Townsend but after the break, Pompey came out strongly and strikes in quick
succession by Gemma Hillier and Lucy Quinn put them ahead. Ten minutes later,
Cardiff were level once again thanks to Michelle Green and with fourteen minutes
remaining, an own goal gave Cardiff a precious win against one of their title rivals.
Gillingham therefore move back into second place following their 1-0 win
against Lewes. Nikita Whinnett scored the only goal of the game to keep her side
one point behind leaders Cardiff and firmly amongst the five contenders.
Coventry City made it twelve wins in a row in all competitions and are up
into third place after scoring six without reply against Chesham Utd, who are now

looking doomed. A four-goal blitz in eleven first half minutes put the Sky Blues firmly
in control, Ashleigh Neville giving them the lead with Rebecca Anderson and Maz
Gauntlett also on target before Neville netted her second. Anderson then got on the
scoresheet once again and the midfielder went on to complete her hat-trick midway
through the second half.
Tottenham Hotspur's upsurge in form continued as they cemented
themselves in sixth place by running out 3-0 winners over Brighton & Hove Albion.
Bianca Baptiste was the heroine for Spurs as she bagged a hat-trick but Brighton's
miserable recent run has now stretched to a fifth straight defeat.
West Ham Utd leapt out of the bottom two by beating Keynsham Town 2-1.
Both of the Hammers' goals came inside the opening sixteen minutes, Sarah
McCrea giving them the lead and then a superb strike from Lily Mellors put them two
ahead. Keynsham rallied from that point and pulled a goal back after the break when
Suzanne Grant netted from the penalty spot but West Ham held out under late
Keynsham pressure for an important victory.
* On Wednesday night, Charlton Athletic stepped up their title challenge by beating
Tottenham Hotspur 1-0, thanks to a second half goal from Fran Tye.

Lancashire
Birmingham City 1 (Allen 25) Arsenal 0
att: 2,671; at Birmingham City FC
Remi Allen scored a well taken goal on her debut to give
Birmingham City the advantage going into the second half of
their UEFA Women's Champions League quarter final tie.
The win was no less than the Blues deserved and they
could have won by a bigger margin against Arsenal's new look
side which passed the ball around well at times but did not
manage a shot on target all night.
As well as Allen, Blues manager Dave Parker also gave a
debut to 16-year-old Jess Carter at left back and the youngster
responded with an impressive performance, while Meaghan
Sargeant and Hannah Keryakoplis were on the bench. Japanese
duo Yukari Kinga and Shinobu Ohno both made their first starts
for Arsenal whilst Casey Stoney made her first appearance in the
Karen Carney shields from Emma Mitchell.
competition since 2002, the last time she was with the club.
The early stages saw Arsenal dominate possession and
win a number of early corners but Birmingham, who had looked very nervous at the start, began to
settle and it took a fine saving tackle from Stoney to prevent Allen from getting in on goal.
Arsenal hit back with Alex Scott breaking down the right and crossing for Ohno to sweep a
shot over the bar, but Birmingham were gathering momentum and should really have taken the lead
when Karen Carney's cross was helped on by Allen, Emma Byrne was unable to hold under pressure
and the ball broke for Melissa Lawley with the goal at her mercy but the young winger fired over.
Six minutes later though, Birmingham were ahead. Chelsea Weston's cross into the area
picked out Allen who hooked her shot over Byrne and into the back of the net.
Birmingham piled forward in search of a second goal with Jo Potter, who had earlier hit the
side netting with a free kick, testing Byrne from long range after exchanging passes with Carter. A
breakthrough almost came as Kirsty Linnett burst into the area and planted her shot past Byrne but
Stoney was well placed to clear the ball off the line. Potter again shot wide from distance as
Birmingham took their one-goal lead going into the interval.
The second half was scrappier than the first and both teams were guilty of giving the ball away
at times. Arsenal did produce their best move of the game on the hour mark though, Kelly Smith's
pass was nodded down by Scott into the path of Ohno but Aoife Mannion made a great challenge to
keep the Japanese international at bay.
Birmingham responded with Linnett, who had a very impressive match up front, making a
strong run towards goal before sending in a curling shot which Byrne dived to her left to push away.
There was a let off for Arsenal when a misjudgement by Kinga allowed Allen to get past her
and, despite initially appearing to be tugged back, she made her way through on goal, however she
elected to pass instead of taking the ball on and the opportunity was lost.
Lawley shot wide from the edge of the area but Birmingham were now happy to sit on their
lead and prevent any Gunners hopes of an away goal.
The chance for Arsenal did come with three minutes left on the clock though, Smith producing
a sublime piece of skill to trick her way to the line on the left and whipping in a cross but Ohno
volleyed over from around eight yards out.
From that point, Birmingham ran down the clock with Carney and Allen keeping possession
well to preserve their lead going into Sunday's second leg at The Hive.
The Blues were worthy winners on the night with Linnett, Potter and Allen all having excellent
games and their young back four - Chelsea Weston the oldest at just 23 - performed extremely well
against renowned opponents. Arsenal look to be a 'work in progress' at the moment but Ohno looks
an excellent acquisition and Stoney had a solid match on her return. Birmingham have matters in
their hands right now, but rule the Gunners out at your peril.

Birkenhead have had their best season in the North West Women's Regional League,
winning promotion to the Premier Division. The 2013-14 season has seen an undefeated
Birkenhead Ladies become proud winners of the Division One South title. The final
league game, which was led by captains Kate Anderson and Emma Jones, ended in a
5-0 victory for the Champions against Mossley Hill Res. Nadine Sword scored a
remarkable four goals with Charlotte Cloy scoring the other.
Birkenhead, formerly Wirral Ladies Football Club, have been playing in the
North West League for 20 years. Over the past twelve years, the women's team have
been able to sustain their league position due to the development of the girls section,
which this season has benefitted from an influx of young players coming through the
ranks into the women's team. Such growth is key to the development of the women's
team and an opportunity for young players to continue to play the beautiful game. Some
players have gained their Coaching qualifications and now coach the younger teams.
Giving back and helping young players develop their knowledge and skills of football this is what it is all about!
The women's team, who have been renamed a few times since 1994, were
delighted to come under the umbrella of Birkenhead Youth Club in 2010. The club
supports the girls and women's teams and they have access to their fantastic facilities,
particularly the new 3G Astroturf that teams take great pleasure training on.
The squad of 20 players has a good balance of youth and more experienced
players, which has been fundamental to the excellent season so far. Now the league is
secured, the club's next task is to focus on the League Plate where they are in the quarter
finals, which will be played on Sunday 6th April.
Looking forward to next season, Birkenhead is aiming to expand further for their
youth players with an Under-18 girls' development team to encourage young players to
continue playing and gain experience of 11-a-side football in preparation of playing for
the open age women's team. The club is also aiming to start over with a young team
(Under-10 girls), which will be run by qualified coach Chelsey Hodgin, a senior player
who started with the club as a young player.
Birkenhead manager Joanne Day told Women's Soccer Scene: "Thank you to
the players (listed below), Assistant Manager Mark James, Fitness Coach Amy Doherty
and Assistant Coach Chelsey Hodgin, Birkenhead Youth Club, Promoter Richie Day and
all the supporters who have watched our games and followed us on Facebook or Twitter.
"I am a very proud Player Manager and excited to be in the Premier Division next
season … well done to you all!"

Milton Keynes City 1 Newbury Ladies 2
Newbury Ladies clinched promotion to the Southern Region
League Premier Division with their eleventh League victory in
a row to land the Division One title with a game to spare.
They were made to work hard to secure the points
needed to outdistance the last of their rivals by a spirited
Milton Keynes City team who levelled the scores with fifteen
minutes to go, threatening to delay the champagne
celebrations.
Fittingly a superb late strike by skipper Leanne Creese
saw the visitors home and ensured a happy Newbury group
could enjoy their moment of triumph at Tattenhoe Lane
playing fields.
In truth, only a disaster would have prevented Newbury
from winning the league after such a stunning set of results,
with Fleetlands needing seven wins out of seven and Sophie Self rises above Michelle Morrall and
Newbury to lose their two final matches for their huge lead to Roxy Karbownik (www.jamesprickett.co.uk).
be overturned. With a strong breeze blowing across the pitch
both teams took a while to settle, the only threats at either end coming from well delivered corners
causing last ditch defending in the opening ten minutes.
Gradually Newbury started to threaten the City goal from open play. Leanne Saunders had a
long range effort well held by City keeper Sara Madden-Connor who was then quick off her line to
clear from Nicole Beesley. Ellie Reed got in a powerful header from a Creese corner but MaddenConnor again showed good handling on 26 minutes. At the other end, Stacy Ellett tested Chloe Hunt
from 20 yards as MK City had a decent share of the ball through the midfield.
Newbury nearly took the lead as first the keeper then covering defender Laura Geyton did well
to block goalbound efforts on 36 minutes. However. the best move of the half saw Newbury in front
four minutes later. A lovely pass by Rachel Panting released Read on the right and her low cross was
turned in by Lorna Parr from close range.
Read nearly doubled the lead from outside the area but the ball struck the bar and although
Roxy Karbownik went close for City just before the break, Newbury deserved their interval lead.
The hard fought nature of the match continued and it was not until the hour that Newbury's
Sam Atkins went close with a shot just over the bar. Beesley then lobbed the keeper but the ball fell
wide of goal where Panting fired a cross shot inches wide of the far post. Milton Keynes worked a
good opening for Dani Metcalfe but Hunt did well to block her shot at the edge of the area.
Encouraged by this, the hosts started to build pressure and a run and cross by Shannon Brown
brought about the equaliser. Michelle Morrall challenged Hunt and the ball looped over the keeper
and into the net on 75 minutes.
Both teams went for the victory as the clock wound down but it was a fine moment of quality
which settled the match. There seemed little danger when Creese received the ball 40 yards from
goal on the right. Cutting infield past one challenge, the Newbury skipper worked enough space to
hit a drive which flew into the bottom right corner of Madden-Connor's net from 25 yards for the
winning goal. The City keeper was injured in diving to try to stop the shot but recover to deny Read
with another instinctive save from close range in added time.
Milton Keynes City, in their first season at this level since promotion from the Thames Valley
County League, are having a good season in Division One. After a poor start,. including a 5-1 home
defeat by today's opposition, Newbury have embarked on a title winning streak which has lasted
since late October in the league. After several years in Division One in which they have not
challenged for promotion, Newbury will get to test themselves regularly against local teams who they
have only met in Cup competitions.
Milton Keynes City: Sara Madden-Connor, Dani Metcalfe, Steff Crook, Stacy Ellett, Michelle
Morrall, Shannon Brown, Laura Geyton, Mia Skaarup, Danielle Relph, Roxy Karbownik, Aimee
Barrable. Sub: Gemma Taylor.

Creese, Kirsty Parfett, Sam Atkins, Ellie Read,

Scotland women's national coach, Anna Signeul, senses a feel-good factor around the national
teams, as she announces her squad for another crucial FIFA Women's World Cup qualifying
double-header.
Scotland currently sit top of Group 4 with maximum points from their first four games.
The squad goes in to the matches against Poland and Bosnia on the back of a successful
Cyprus Women's Cup, in which Scotland were unbeaten against France, The Netherlands and
Australia, only losing on penalties to Korea Republic in the final placing match.
The Poland match will be played at Fir Park, Motherwell on Saturday 5th April (5.30pm)
and the match will also be shown live on BBC ALBA. Scotland then travel to Bosnia-Herzegovina
to play their next game five days later at Bilino Polje, Zenica.
Anna insists that the positivity around the national teams is very much by design. She
told www.scottishfa.co.uk: "Yes, there is a lot of positivity around the national squads at the
moment. We have recorded some very good results recently, as have the men's squad.
"Our women's under-17s reached the Euro finals in November and the under-16s won
the Victory Shield. All of the women's and men's youth squads have been playing well and
winning matches, including the under-17s in their first elite round qualifier last night.
"That is down to a lot of hard work by the coaches and national team staff, but the
investment in the performance strategy has been crucial.
"In terms of the women's national teams, we now have a bigger programme of training
camps and matches. Keeping up this level of intensity has been very important for our
development at all age groups.
"A key benefit for the senior women's squad has been our partnership with the Scottish
Institute of Sport, which has transformed our strength and conditioning training and led to the
players becoming fitter than ever."
Scotland go into their next two qualifiers looking to stay ahead of group favourites,
Sweden, who are currently three points behind Scotland, with a game in hand.
Anna said: "We defeated both Poland and Bosnia in the first half of the campaign, so
we have an idea of what we will be up against. We will be prepared for two very tough matches.
Bosnia lost only one goal, a penalty, when they hosted Sweden so we know it will be a difficult
place to go to, but we need to focus on keeping our momentum going."

Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire League
St Albans City returned to the top of the league after a Holly Sheridan double and Megan Kiff gave
them a 3-0 win away to Wootton Blue Cross. Offley & Stopsley went second by scoring eight
without reply past AFC Dunstable Blues, Emma James hitting a hat-trick along with Emma
Collins, Holly Flynn, Rachel Lewis, Charlene Moreton and Stacey Smith. Sharnbrook ran out 4-0
victors at Harvesters, courtesy of a Sian Flemons hat-trick and Zoe Wright.
St Martins stretched their lead at the top of Division Two after winning 8-1 away to Kings
Langley. Tamara Bayne and Karis Richardson each netted twice along with Stacey Hardacre,
Shannon Pratt, Natasha Ridley and Stephanie Hettie. Nearest rivals Leverstock Green Whites
and Sandy Ladies battled out a 2-2 draw, Cally Salter scoring twice for Leverstock with Amber
Willett and Kayleigh Bennett replying. Watton ran out 4-0 winners away to Arlesey Town and
Bishop's Stortford Town defeated Crawley Green 4-1 with doubles from Rebekah Coppen and
Elle Georgiou.
Division Three leaders Letchworth Garden City scored seven without reply away to
Welwyn Garden City, goals coming from Hannah Nolan (2), Lottie Cartwright, Emily Jamieson,
Tayla Murray, Alyce Williams and Rhiannon O'Donaghue. Jade Eaton netted twice and Kelsey
Hagland the other as Biggleswade Ladies defeated Leighton Utd Vixens Res 3-1 to stay second
on goal difference from Woburn Lionesses, who won 3-2 at Garston thanks to Catriona
Roxburgh, Christie Pulford and Georgia Edwards. Faye Moxon and Natalie Stafford both hit
doubles with Ella Swan adding the other for Toddington Rovers in their 5-3 victory over
Bedmond Ladies.
Westward Developments Devon League
In the Premier Division, the University of Exeter continued their winning run, which dates back to
the start of the year, with a convincing 5-0 away win against Bideford. Ruth Bowerman scored for
the second week running along with Coryn Sexton (2), Izzie Harvey and Alicia Gibbs. University
of Plymouth also won for the second consecutive week, this time 3-2 away to Exeter & Tedburn
Rangers. Feniton followed up their draw with champions AFC Plympton, to collect all three
points by beating Heavitree Social 3-0, thanks to a Natalie Matthews hat-trick.
In Division One, Brixham Villa were unable to hang on to a 2-1 lead, conceding twice in the
last ten minutes to lose 3-2 to high flying Budleigh Salterton. Sarah Smith and Vanessa May
scored for Villa who were undone by Dominae Weeks, Molly Jacobs and an own goal, who gained
another three points to apply pressure on Activate. The west Devon derby at Tavistock resulted
in a 2-0 win for visiting Activate, who kept up their own chase for promotion with goals from
Wensdy Wise and Jodie Martin.
Essex League
Little Thurrock Dynamos made it through to the semi finals of the League Cup after a 6-1 win
over Holland & Clacton. They will now entertain Writtle who went to Hutton Res and enjoyed a
10-0 victory.
Southendian Ladies now have a ten point cushion at the summit in the Premier Division,
following their 3-0 success away to Beacon Hill Rovers.
The bottom two teams in Division Two met each other and could not be separated on the
day as both Valley Green and Wickford Town shared the points with a 1-1 draw.
Gloucestershire League
Cheltenham Civil Service clinched the league title with a 5-0 victory over local rivals Cheltenham
Spa CS. Beth Tovey scored twice with Kelly Churchley, Debra Harris and Gemma Riley adding
the others to put their side beyond the reach of the others with three games still to play. Oldland
Abbotonians look lively to finish as runners-up after beating Bristol & West 3-2. Amy Nicholson
scored twice and Jess Cole the other for Oldland with Becky Billing and an own goal replying.
Wootton Bassett Town and AEK Boco finished level at 2-2, Laura Jefferies and Laura Ball
scoring for Wootton Bassett with Kelly Cutler and Jade Scammell replying.
Division Two leaders Cheltenham Town Development were jolted as they were beaten
3-0 by St Nicholas Res for whom Lara Ferris (2) and Poppy Coles scored. Abbeymead Rovers

Hibernian continue to set the early pace in the Scottish Women's
Premier League and they scored seven times without reply for
the second successive week, this time against Inverness City.
The two sides had recorded the two biggest wins on the
opening day but it was Hibs who produced a strong display to
stay on top of the fledgling table. Caroline Heron, Elliss Jenkins
and Lucy Graham each scored twice with Frankie Brown playing her last match before joining Bristol Academy in the WSL
- adding the other goal.
Celtic slot into second place after beating Hutchison Vale 2-0. Celtic were
made to work hard for the points but a Julie Fleeting double ensured they made it
two wins from two and they are yet to concede a goal so far.
Glasgow City complete a trio of clubs on six points following their 4-1 victory
away to Hamilton Academicals. A brace from Suzanne Lappin, along with goals
from Abbi Grant and Julie Nelson, gave City the points with the Accies' consolation
coming through Gillian Inglis. However the win was marred for City as young striker
Alyshia Walker was stretchered off with what appeared to be a serious injury.
Rangers and Spartans had both recorded victories in their opening
matches and both remain unbeaten after their meeting ended in a closely fought
goalless draw.
Aberdeen meanwhile registered their first points of the season with a 3-1
victory away to Buchan Ladies. Rachael Small scored a goal in each half and a
second half strike from Hermans wrapped up the win for the Dons.
Newly promoted Queen's Park picked up their first point as they battled out
a 2-2 draw with Forfar Farmington. Ceara McIntyre and Valentina Mazzoni were
on target for the Spiders with Forfar replying via an Amy Gallacher double.
This Sunday, the early leaders Hibernian make the trip north to take on
Aberdeen. However the standout fixture this weekend is likely to be the first Old
Firm clash of the season with Rangers playing host to Celtic. Glasgow City, the

Mossley Hill have gone three points ahead following their 3-2 win away to Sheffield
Utd Community. Carmen Triaono was on target twice and Megan Brodie added the
other as the Merseyside club continue to try and stretch the pace.
Huddersfield Town are now second and have three games in hand on Mossley
Hill after they defeated Middlesbrough 5-3. Town captain Kate Mallin had a great day
in front of goal, scoring four times in all, with Emily Heckler also finding the net to help
secure a vital win for her side.
Tranmere Rovers continue to finish the season well and they have leapfrogged
Liverpool Feds into sixth place after winning their local derby clash 3-0. Rachel
Davison, Lindsey Smith and Beth Woolley were all on the scoresheet as Tranmere
recorded their fifth victory in a row.
Rae Taylor, Amy Kelly, Rachel Kay and Lisa Garbutt were all on the scoresheet
for Chester-le-Street Town who were 4-0 victors away to Leeds City Vixens.
Wakefield registered their second league victory of the season and boosted
their hopes of climbing off the bottom as they won 4-1 against Cheadle Heath
Nomads. Danielle Middleton netted twice for the Yorkshire side along with Danielle
Biglin and Laurie Millington.
Midland Combination
Copsewood (Coventry) have dominated the league table all season and they
confirmed themselves as Champions by beating Leicester City Ladies 3-2. Nicola
Foskett netted two of the goals, including a late winner, with Kirstie Deacon also on
target.
Only Leafield Athletic can prevent Leicester City Women from finishing as
runners-up and those hopes took a huge knock as they went down to a 3-2 defeat at
the hands of Mansfield Town, who scored through a Jemma Douglas brace and
Georgina Unthank.
Row Davies was the heroine for Loughborough Foxes, scoring both goals as
her side were 2-1 winners away to Solihull Ladies.
Curzon Ashton ended any lingering fears of finishing at the bottom as they
defeated Radcliffe Olympic 6-1. Laura Garner and Louise McGilligan each hit
doubles for Curzon, with Annie Simm and Emma Lambourne completing the tally.
South East Combination
C & K Basildon are back on top of the table once again after they ran out 5-0 winners
over Ebbsfleet Utd. Jenny Brown-Wealls scored twice for C & K along with Claire
Lacey, Sara Sinclair and Maegen Doyle.
Queen's Park Rangers received a setback as they were held to a 2-2 draw by
Ipswich Town. Danielle Bitten and Michelle Allum were on target for Ipswich while Elly
Maggs netted both goals for Rangers, who are two points behind C & K whilst
possessing a game in hand.
Denham Utd climbed up into fourth place, thanks to a 2-0 success away to
Cambridge Women with goals from Jo Torr and Lauren Cox.
Norwich City got back to winning ways with a 4-1 victory at Enfield Town,
Chelsea Garrett scoring twice along with Anna Larkins and an own goal. The Canaries
can still have a say in the title race but will probably need maximum points from their

regular football. I'm really excited to build on the success [of the
club] from last season. I'm joining a strong squad and I want us
as a team to be successful in all competitions."
Earps joins England Under-23 colleagues Jemma Rose
and Jaz Matthews at Bristol Academy and manager Dave
Edmondson is excited for the future for these three promising
young players. "Mary fits Bristol perfectly as she is a young
ambitious goalkeeper, eager to develop herself as a player over
the next two seasons," he said. "Mary is a young goalkeeper with
many positive attributes and huge potential. Her work ethic and
determination to succeed coupled with the intensive training she
will get from goalkeeper coach, John Granville, will help Mary develop into a vital member of the
Bristol team.
"Mary has shown undoubted qualities as a goalkeeper both in her time at Doncaster Belles
and Birmingham which have elevated her into the Under-23 and now senior England squads. She
is keen, as are we, to further develop her as a goalkeeper and to provide her the platform to
enhance her international standing with consistent performances at club level."
Nettleham seeking new manager
Nettleham Ladies FC are looking for a new manager next season due to the retirement of current
boss Paul Durrands at the end of the present campaign.
The club is having a very good season, currently lying in second place in the Premier Division
of the East Midlands League as well as having reached the Lincolnshire County Cup Final and
League Cup semi finals.
Paul will be conducting the interviews himself and will talk to anyone who believes they have
the experience needed to manage the club, with the word 'experience' being essential. Coaching
badges of Level 2 and above is required but not essential, but 'experience' can balance this out.
Please contact Paul Durrands on (07706) 661906 or e-mail him at
[email protected] with a CV.
Millwall announce season ticket prices
Millwall Lionesses kick off their debut campaign in the Women's Super League 2 at The Den - and
you can be there every step of the way. The Lionesses joined the new Women's Super League in
April 2013 and will compete alongside nine top class teams in the newly expanded FA WSL 2. It is
set to be a very exciting campaign with newly emerging teams such as Durham and London Bees
taking on experienced forerunners of the women's game such as Sunderland and Doncaster
Rovers Belles.
The Lionesses have been busy throughout the close season, recruiting experienced
international players Kylie Davies, Sophie Perry and Naomi Cole, while working closely to bring
through the talented youngsters already within the Millwall set up. This season young rising stars
Lilli Maple, Shauni Griffiths, and Ciara Sherwood will be pushing for first team positions, having
consistently impressed with their recent performances in the development squad.
Thanks to Millwall FC, who recently announced that all home matches will be played at The
Den, the Lionesses have some of the best facilities in the women's game, and you can snap up a
season ticket to enjoy every minute of the action for just £25 Adults, and £15 for Under-16s.
Season tickets permit entry for the ticket holder to all Millwall Lionesses home fixtures,
including nine Women's Super League 2 games and Continental Cup matches. That means that
you get over 50% of matches for free if you buy a Lionesses Season Ticket!
The offer is even better for current Millwall FC season ticket holders who can get their
Lionesses season ticket for just £15 for Adults, and £8 for Kids. That's less than £1 per fixture!
First team manager Alberto Kurti can't wait for kick off, saying: "There is a massive buzz this year
around the team and we can't wait for the league to get going. We want to share this experience
with all our fans and that's why we decided to offer our season tickets for The Den at such a
fantastic price - it wont be the same without the fans that have supported us and hopefully we want
to gain some more."
Tickets are available to buy online at https://sales.webticketmanager.com/mlfc or call (0207)

AFC Plympton manager Barry Metters was full of praise for his team after they clinched the
Westward Developments Devon League title.
Plympton put themselves beyond the reach of their rivals with a 2-2 draw against Feniton
last Sunday and Metters told Women's Soccer Scene of his delight at the team's achievement.
"We have had a great season, winning all our first 13 games, most of them quite easily,"
he said. "The hardest two games were by far against Feniton who we struggled to beat 4-3 at home
and then drew 2-2 away, this being the point that gave us the title in our fourteenth game with two
league games still to play. We also still have the league cup semi final to play so are still on for the
double.
"Our only defeat so far this season was a 3-1 loss to Exeter City in the Devon Women's
Senior County Cup semi final. This was a great performance against a team who play three leagues
above us."
As for the key to his team's success, Barry insists that consistency has been a big factor.
"The main reason the team have done so well this season is due to the reliability of the girls, with
many of them playing in every game this season," he said. "Although we have scored over 100
goals in all competitions with the strikers all getting double figures (Samantha Metters 29, Chez
Phillips 26, Maisie Williams 21 and Chelsea Robinson 18), credit must go to our strong defence led
by captain Codie-Al Cleugh and goalkeeper Taylor Mathews.
"Most of the girls have played together or against each other in junior football in the
Plymouth area so have found it an
easy step when they reach the age of
16 to join the ladies team."
Plympton will be promoted
to the South West League next
season and Metters is confident that
the team can acquit themselves well.
"With this being our fifth season and
enjoying two promotions in this time,
the next step will be moving up to the
South West League for a new
challenge.
"Although we are losing 3
or 4 of the girls next season as they
move away to university, AFC Back row (L to R): Charlie Nicholson, Stacey Gill, Ellie Simpson, Codie-Al Cleugh, Taylor Mathews,
Hannah Yates, Lauren Boyle, Charlotte Jeffery, Jodie Lobb.
Plympton have a strong girls set up
Front row (L to R): Beth Mitchell, Samantha Metters, Rhiannon Dumper, Rebecca Pepperell,
so girls are ready to step up and

replace any departing players."
The team is managed by Barry Metters with Lee Metters as assistant and Julie Metters as Secretary.
remaining games to stand any realistic chance.
Brentwood Town meanwhile won for the first time this season and are off the
bottom at the expense of Luton Town after beating them 3-2. Sophie Lovell grabbed
two of the goals for Brentwood, with Rachel Armstrong adding the other.
South West Combination
Swindon Town are still six points clear at the top following their 2-2 draw with Larkhall
Athletic but it needed a late equaliser to keep their title hopes alive. Chynna Collings
and Ellie Maynard scored the goals for Swindon, who are starting to run out of games,
while Larkhall's strikes came from Lizzie Barratt and Kate German.
Plymouth Argyle stay second after notching up a 5-0 victory away to
Southampton Saints. Ezme Wells scored twice for Argyle along with Emily Mousley,
Laura Perrett and Rebekah Rose.
Helen Kukor hit a hat-trick and Tash Knapman weighed in with the other two
goals as Exeter City maintained their recent winning run with a 5-2 success against
Shanklin, which keeps them in third place.
Chichester City meanwhile suffered a setback to their challenge as they were
beaten for the first time, 1-0 by Forest Green Rovers. The game was settled by a late
penalty from Charlotte King for a win which takes her side back above City and into
fourth place.
Newquay boosted their chances of climbing out of the bottom two by beating
Keynsham Development 2-0.

Hibernian have got off to a good start in the Scottish
Women's Premier League with two victories in their
opening two games, scoring seven times in each.
Hibs midfielder and Scottish international Joelle
Murray told Women's Soccer Scene about her delight with
the way they have started and looked ahead to what she
believes will be a closer title race this season:
How pleased are you with the start the team has made
this season?
I’m really happy with our start to the season. We have six
points out of six and have scored 14 goals so we couldn’t
really ask for more. We were annoyed to concede against Forfar so to keep a clean
sheet against Inverness was very pleasing.
Is it particularly satisfying that you have scored seven in both games?
Seven seems to be the magic number just now! We missed a lot of goalscoring
chances against Forfar so although we scored seven, we were slightly disappointed at
some of the finishing. However that said, seven goals in any game is very satisfying so
to score the same amount against Inverness was very pleasing. We have a team full
of goalscorers, some players who are very instinctive and some who have incredible
power and accuracy so we all chip in with our fair share of goals.
You have added new players to the squad as well as the young players that are
coming through, how have they settled in so far?
The new players we have added settled in very quickly, we are a very welcoming team
and look to make new additions feel comfortable as quickly as possible. The young
players who were integrated into the squad last year have grown so much and now
have a year's worth of SWPL experience under their belts, which sets them up nicely
for the challenges they face this season.
Is there real belief amongst the squad that this could be your year in the league?
We have a very talented team and great coaches who guide us and continually push
us to do better and improve. For me personally, this is the best and most talented group
of players I have played with. I believe we have a very strong chance in the league this
year. However we have our feet firmly on the ground and take one game at a time, we
focus on us and what we can do opposed to looking at other teams in the league.
Can you see the league being a more open race this year?
I think the league this year will be very open, I don’t think the gap between the top,
second or third teams will be as big as it was last year.
Wwho do you think the main contenders will be this time?
I don’t want to focus on any one team as there are a few who could potentially win the
league. Obviously Glasgow City have a winning mentality and although having lost a
few experienced players, still have a very strong squad. Celtic, Rangers and Spartans
will definitely be in the mix too so it’ll be all to play for.
This week you travel to play Aberdeen and, with due respect to your previous
opponents, do you see this as being your toughest match so far?
No disrespect to Inverness or Forfar but Aberdeen will be our toughest opponents so
far. They have always caused us problems as they are a very hard working team
littered with players who have represented Scotland at various age levels.

A scintillating first half display by Laura
Harris-Steers put Woodley United Reserves
on their way to retaining the Berks & Bucks
County Girls Under-18 Cup at Abingdon
United FC on Sunday.
The Woodley winger scored twice and
then set up Sarah Lawrence and Rosie
Page-Smith to put United four up against
Wargrave in the first 26 minutes. A 25-yard
drive by Morgan Merryweather and a goal in
injury time from Rosie Page-Smith rounded
off a 6-0 win.
Woodley thus added the county cup
to the Thames Valley League Division Two South title they had secured - with a 100% record
- seven days before. Manager Marc Surtees and much of his squad can now boast a hat-trick
of Berks & Bucks cups, having lifted the Under-16s trophy in 2012.
United already had two league wins over Wargrave under their belt, but still wanted an
early goal to settle any cup final nerves and they got exactly that. Barely two minutes had been
played when Lawrence played a perfectly weighted pass through Wargrave's high defensive
line and Harris-Steers scampered from halfway to draw the keeper and score.
Woodley were soon threatening again, Lawrence and Page-Smith exchanged passes
neatly but the Wargrave keeper came out to smother the threat at Lawrence's feet, whilst Ellen
Surtees shot narrowly wide from a corner. But United did not have long to wait for the second
goal, in the 16th minute Lawrence was again Harris-Steers' provider, slipping the ball inside
the Wargrave left back for the winger to slam her shot high into the net.
Ten minutes later, Harris-Steers deftly kept the ball in play on the flank, skipped away
from her full back yet again and crossed to the top of the area for Lawrence to shoot into the
corner. Shortly after that, Page-Smith sent Harris-Steers away down the right, where she
raced into the middle to meet a low cross and sidefooted home.
Woodley were home and hosed - and then hailed on! The bright sunshine in which the
game had kicked off was replaced by rain, which turned to hail as the fourth goal went in from
short range by Page-Smith and then it pelted down for several minutes. The weather, a string
of substitutions and perhaps a sense of satiation slowed Woodley up and no more goals
followed before half time, although Page-Smith and Gemma Bloor went close and HarrisSteers almost completed a hat-trick, shooting just over from the corner of the area.
Wargrave, meanwhile, had threatened little as the starting back four for Woodley - Ruth
McKee, Sophie Farrell, Emma Davies and Bloor - were as tight as always, barring one early
mix up between Farrell and goalkeeper Louise Fell.
The sun came out again for a second half that was much more even. Woodley
dominated the early possession, with Jemma Garrett and Bonnie Messitt always causing
trouble for the Wargrave defence, even if United lacked their early ruthlessness. But Wargrave
looked a good deal tighter, and asked more questions of their own. They might have had a
penalty kick when the ball hit Farrell's hand in the area, but the referee gave nothing, the ball
did fall to a Wargrave player who blasted over from a good position. With 15 minutes left, they
put together their best move of the match and created a fine chance but Fell saved well.
Four minutes later, United reasserted themselves with Merryweather's piledriver, the
pick of their goals. They kept pressing for another, which arrived in added time. Page-Smith
tried her luck from the edge of the area, the keeper saved low down only to see the ball squirm
out of her grasp and over the line. That was hard on a keeper who had thwarted Woodley
several times in the second half, but Woodley were worthy of a comfortable victory.

Cardiff Met Ladies were narrow 2-1 winners as they
met Swansea City in a dress rehearsal for the
forthcoming FAW Women's Cup Final.
The meeting was an important one in the

opened the scoring on seventeen minutes and midway
through the second half, two goals in the space of a minute
put the match firmly in PILCS' favour. First, Davies grabbed Kim Broadbent of Caernarfon Town battles with

put her side three goals ahead. Kate Jeremiah wrapped up
the win for PILCS with the final goal, five minutes from time.

with Nia Davies levelling from the penalty spot just after the half hour. Owen scored her second
on the hour mark but Llandudno's lead lasted for just seven further minutes, until Jemma Lloyd
ensured her side picked up a point.
The two sides at the foot of the table met each other in a vital clash and it is
Aberystwyth Town who can breathe a little easier after beating Caernarfon Town 1-0. The
match was settled in the twelfth minute when Kelly Thomas scored the only goal of the game for
Aber.

their side twelve points ahead at the top. Birtley St Josephs' chances of a top two finish took
a knock as they lost 2-0 to Kader FC, Sophie Cox and Ashleigh Leighton were on target.
Middlesbrough Lionesses pulled further away from the bottom with a 3-0 victory over
Easingwold Town.
Brighouse Town sewed up the Southern Division Championship after a solitary goal
from Sonya Sweeney earned them a 1-0 win away to Sheffield Wednesday. Handsworth are
off the bottom after coming from two goals behind to draw 2-2 with Malet Lambert. Alexandra
Bwardshaw scored twice for the visitors in the first half before Handsworth hit back through
Alicia Wasnidge and Charlotte McCourt.
North West League
Morecambe continue to blaze a trail at the top and lead by six points following their 5-0 victory
over Chester City. Crewe Alexandra stay in second place despite being held to a 1-1 draw by
Blackpool, one point ahead of Blackpool Wren Rovers who defeated Northwich Vixens 3-0.
City of Manchester moved to within a single point of fourth placed Bolton Wanderers after
beating them 2-1.
Manchester City A moved themselves level on points with Division One North leaders
Blackburn Community after beating Padiham 3-2 but Blackburn still require four points from
three games to clinch the title. Accrington Girls & Ladies cemented themselves in third with
a 4-0 win away to Penrith AFC. Kendal Town are in the top half of the table after they defeated
Woolton 2-1.
Division One South title winners Birkenhead completed their successful season with a

South West League
St Nicholas plough on at the top of the Premier Division and came from behind to record a vital
2-1 win over Truro City. Katy Barker gave Truro a first half lead which was cancelled out by
Jade Gamlin, before Joanne Gay scored a late winner to preserve her side's nine point lead.
Karyn Coombs, Ria Salleh and Hayley Huckin gave second placed Swindon Spitfires a 3-2
victory over Bridgwater Town but Cheltenham Town remain St Nicholas' main rivals, they
won 3-1 at Downend Flyers thanks to a Charlie Griffin hat-trick. Kirsty Campbell and Imogen
Pearce gave Stoke Lane Athletic a surprise 2-1 success at Bristol Ladies Union whilst
Cleeve West Town notched up their first victory, 3-0 against Weymouth Town with goals from
Sarah Meredith, Natasha Crew and Nicola Hoare.
Poole Town are up into second place in the Eastern Division after scoring seven without
reply against a depleted Bitton side. Chloe Newton and Bev Symes each netted twice along
with Stacey Ayling, Sasha Paynter and Faye Hawkins. Justine Carrard bagged a brace and
Emma Summerill the other for Keynsham Town Res as they defeated Bishop's Lydeard 3-1.
Western Division leaders Torquay Utd conceded points for the first time this season as
they drew 1-1 with second placed Marine Academy Plymouth. Louisa Stentiford-Crook was
on target for Torquay with Georgie Talbot replying. The result was a good one for third placed
Alphington who won 2-0 at Charlestown thanks to Laura Burwood and Jenny Harris. Hayley
Ranachan bagged herself a five-goal haul and Dionne Igalawuye added the other for
Plymstock Utd in their 6-2 success away to Callington Town and the game between Bude

now been caught by FC Reedswood who netted six without reply against Walsall.
Coventrians now occupy third place after edging out Kingshurst Sporting by the odd goal in

sharing four goals whilst Wyre Forest Phoenix ran out convincing 9-3 winners over Studley.
Redditch Utd remain at the bottom following a 7-1 defeat at home to Worcester Utd.
Brighouse Town travelled to struggling Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, knowing a point would
secure the North East League Southern Division title, but despite their current league standing
which Town boss Rob Mitchell described as 'a false position', Wednesday would prove to be no
pushovers.
The game started well for Town who made good use of the quality surface to put
together a couple of good moves but seemed to force the ball in the final third leaving everyone
a little frustrated. At times the play seemed a little rushed as both sides looked to take the
initiative but neither could make the breakthrough in the early exchanges.
Cue Sonni Sweeney, Town's top scorer who was looking in fine form and her movement
was causing all kinds of problems. She managed to give her side the lead when Yasmin Ayub
played a superb ball inbetween two defenders, Sweeney drew the keeper before expertly
slotting in at the near post to give her side the lead and take her tally to 34 competitive goals for
the season.
Brighouse failed to add to their lead despite controlling for long periods of the game.
Wednesday themselves struggled to find a way past the Town defence who were looking
organised and gave keeper Erin Boswell very little to do. Town nearly added a second when
Sweeney's initial shot was spilled by the keeper but the in-form forward was unable to direct the
rebound in to a team mate's path with the goal gaping. Jayne Smith also came close but
miscued her shot from close range. Wednesday cranked up the pressures with a couple of
corners in quick succession that were well dealt with by the Town defence. Brighouse led 1-0
at the break against a youthful Sheffield side who, despite playing some good stuff, couldn't
quite find an opening.
The second half was more of the same, plenty of good passing football without an end

product and a lack of quality in the final third, Sheffield were now starting to counter really well
but a change in system seemed to nullify the threat and give Town more attacking options
themselves as Sue Elrington moved up front to support Sweeney.
The change also seemed to spring Kayleigh Bamforth in to life down the right with a
couple of darting runs which were causing problems, the first of which saw Bamforth beat her
marker in a race before rounding the keeper only to foiled at the last second by a recovering
defender. The second saw a cross in to Sweeney who narrowly fired wide from close range.
Wednesday nearly got back in the game but with plenty of Town bodies back behind the
ball a couple of close range efforts were blocked and once more dealt with. They then had their
first real opportunity of the
game and perhaps should have
done better when a cross from
the right was met by Danielle
Harrison,
the
substitute
smashing her effort just over
the bar with some power. Town
then began to run the clock
down and keep possession until
the final whistle sounded and
Town could celebrate winning
the title.
Jarmo Matikainen has named his Wales squad for the two FIFA Women's World Cup matches
away to Turkey and home to the Ukraine in April.
The game in Turkey will be on 4th April with the Ukraine match taking place five days
later at Parc y Scarlets, Llanelli.
Both matches will be important ones as Wales look to build on their good start in the
qualifying group. As part of their build up, they played a double header of friendlies against
Romania earlier this month and both ended in draws.
Watford duo Josie Green and Megan Wynne have been recalled to the squad along
with Yeovil Town's Amy Wathan.
