Heavy Transport , used two of their six-line
Heavy Transport, used two of their six-line Scheuerle SPMT’s (Self Propelled Modular Transport) to move two steel girders that will be used to construct the concrete forms for the bridge deck construction of the Deep Water Port Improvements in the Port of Long Beach. Each girder was 242’ long, 7’ wide, 16’ high and weighed 467,154 pounds. The biggest challenge was determining the lateral center of gravity of the girders so that the beam placement on the SPMTs would be balanced perfectly on both sides of the SPMT. The placement of the girders was within 2” of allowed tolerance. The project was executed without incident by SPMT Operator, Fred Adams and the entire crew from Heavy Transport. (Below right) Artist rendering of the bridge that will eventually replace the current structure. Bragg Crane Service is using one of it’s newly acquir ed cranes, the MLC 300, Manitowoc Crawler Crane on the dismantling project of the historic 6th Street Bridge in downtown Los Angeles. The MLC300 that has the capacity to lift up to 300 Tons with a main boom length of 335 feet. On this project the MLC300 is removing the large pieces of concrete that are being cut loose from their anchors, anchors that have been in place for 84 years. The 6th Street Bridge has been a fixture in Los Angeles since 1932. When the bridge was completed in 1932 it was state of the art for the time and is one of a set of 14 historic Los Angeles River crossing structures and is the longest of the structures. The bridge extends east to west for 3,500 feet and is 46 feet wide. Once the demolition of the bridge is complete a new bridge will be constructed to take its place with completion of the new bridge scheduled for 2019. Bragg Crane & Rigging erected 3 tower cranes on the Oceanwide Plaza project in Los Angeles. The $1 billion project directly across from the Staples Center consists of 752,000 square feet across one 49-story tower and two 40-story towers. There are 504 condominiums and 183 hotel rooms planned for the site. It is expected to be completed September of 2018. Artist’s rendering of the completed project can be seen to the left. DAY THREE DAY ONE DAY FIVE Bragg was in Germany for BAUMA, the world’s largest equipment show and was able to see one of their two new LR1750/2 crawlers. The LR1750 has 825T lift capacity and 626 feet of boom The first crane is expected to arrive in June 2016. (Photo Left) Liebherr LR1600/2 which has a 660T capacity and 614ft of boom. After the vessels were set in the saddles they were jack and rolled on an air dolly into the building and placed in their permanent location within the building. Project Submitted by Chris Wells, BCR, LB Bragg Crane Service was contr acted to help with the maintenance of wind turbines at the Alta X Wind Farm in Mojave, California. Using their Liebherr LR-1400/2, Manitowoc MLC 300 and Link Belt 90-ton cranes they removed an 85m turbine and blades and replaced those components with new components. The rotor weighed 125,000 pounds and each blade weighed 21,100 pounds. Project Submitted by Harry Kelly, BCS, LB/FNT Heavy Transport, has been contr acted by Kinkoshar yo to transport 78 P3010 Model Light Rail Vehicles (LRV) from Palmdale, CA to LA Metro. Heavy Transport custom built the LRV transport trailer with a roll on/off capability specially designed for rail cars. Overall dimensions of the trailers and rail cars are 132’ L, 12’ wide and 16’ high. Each load weighs 205,000 pounds. Project Submitted by Lorin Sabin, HT, Stockton Heavy Transport moved a 175 year old California oak tree that was transported in a box that measured 30’ x 30’. The loaded dimensions were 80’ L, 57’ W and 64’ H with a gross weight of 1,044,000 pounds. The tree was moved with a (2) 8 line Goldhoffer platform trailers in a side-by-side configuration and a prime mover. The tree was moved up a hill with an 8% grade to it’s new location a half miles away from it’s original location. Project Submitted by Kevin Reese, HT, LB A remodeled house will be used as the new primary housing for the rotating exhibitions in the new Heroes Hall, a permanent, year-round attraction that will celebrate the legacy of the property’s Army roots plus Orange County veterans and others who served our nation through the sharing of veterans’ personal stories. Heavy Transport used their SPMTs to move the house that weighed approx. 50,000-pounds. The house is a 5,000-square-foot, two-story WWII-era building was moved a half mile through the property to its permanent home which will be open to the public on November 11, Veterans Day 2016.
