FISHING
Please try fishing in the river. You have
a good chance of catching grayling,
trout and salmon. Fishing licenses can
be purchased online
(www.vindelalvsfiske.se), or at the
nature center. A hot spot for salmon
fishing lies above the neck of the river,
by the suspension bridge.
REMNANTS OF LOG DRIVING
Remains from several eras of log driving
can be seen on this river bank: log
caissons, dry masonry walls and concrete
plates. These were built to prevent logs
from getting stuck whilst floating
downstream. Log driving in the Vindel
River ceased in 1976.
THE VINDEL RIVER NATURE CENTER
If you want to know more about nature,
culture and the riverbank landscape. The
Nature Center can be found in the
basement of Hotel Forsen.

HOLMEN (THE ISLET)
Along the eastern edge of the islet, there is a trail with a beautiful view
of Renforsen. Amongst other plants, cinnamon roses grow on the
beaches. You can get to the islet via one of three bridges, and the view
from suspension bridge at the top of the river is fantastic.

DEGERFORS MILL
In the 19th century there was a smallwater mill here, milling flour using
water power from nearby river. The
mill was modernised step by step, but
abandoned in 1958, only eight years
after transition to electric power.
Today, local artists exhibit their work
here at Konst i Kvarn. Up the hill is the
old miller’s house that now houses a
café.
FORSARNA RUNT
There is a five kilometre trail arounde
the reserve, along the river. If you want
a shorter walk, you can turn back at the
gully and walk Fågelstigen (the bird
path).
SÅGHOLMEN (THE SAWMILL ISLET)
A small scale water power plant was used for sawing timber. The remaining foundations of the power plant can still be seen on the mainland.
THE WADMAL STAMP
The stamp was powerd by water
from the dam and used to prepare
wadmal, rough homespun wool
fabric, from which it was easier to
make cloth and clothing. The
wadmal stamp has been restored.
SANDY BANKS, GULLIES AND FLOWERAGE
The eastern side of the river has a landscape of beautiful banks and
riverside terraces with both deciduous and coniferous woods. Each
year, spring floods wash over these areas, making it a very different
living environment. Common wintergreen, one-flowered wintergreen
and valerian can be found on the river banks. If you are lucky, you can
spot the state flower of Västerbotten, Pedicularis sceptrum-carolinum.
Sometimes the river brings mountain flowers here.
