New World Plants Located in the West of England in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside, we are specialists in the introduction of new and unusual plants, which we grow, export and licence around the world. We offer a professional service to contract grow young plants, tailor-made to suit your needs, whether modules, liners or tissue culture plants. We are in a unique position to source, select and market new plants from around the world, often securing royalties on behalf of the breeder. So if you have a new plant please contact us. 3 Production capabilities: This brochure aims to identify plants currently in production, and therefore does not include any new plants being evaluated. Plants illustrated here are available in various forms from our dedicated professional growers based in the UK, Europe, and from specialist propagators in places such as Israel offer un-rooted cutting’s from private stock. As a result we seek to obtain quotes and availability following your enquiry, but please be aware that we have very little ‘free stock’ as most items are grown to order. Some of our growers only produce specific items and therefore your order may come from multiple growers so that the quality is maintained to a high standard. NWP will supervise and collate the entire ordering procedure on your behalf through to delivery. We have experience in exporting our plants and our facilities undergo government inspections. Geranium ‘Black Beauty’ in liner production 4 Technology and Opportunity…. We are keen to make long-term success stories and as a result we conduct trials both on our facilities and in other growers’ nurseries. Many of our plants are initiated using micro propagation with different laboratories. Increasingly we are using the highly skilled and labour intensive methods of meristem culture and virus indexing to ensure that plants are clean and have increased vigour. A number of our plants have undergone this process and are now maintained as ‘elite’ material. Others just look, but we see… NWP has years of experience in both growing and marketing new plants. We like to think that we have a ‘trained eye’ to spot the exciting new winner as well as useful additions to complement a range. This accumulated knowledge means that we know what is required by you the grower to secure, grow and market our new varieties. Information, such as cultural details and good quality pictures for promotion is all part of the service we offer! (We can only offer guidelines as your own country and climate needs will differ from that of the UK). 5 Sourcing and selecting new plants from all around the world…. NWP partners with well-known breeders and professional nurserymen, as well as taking advantage of the odd ‘chance discovery in the field’. In addition we have our own plant trials and have bred some of our own hybrids such as Agapanthus & Verbascum, some of which are listed here. This means we have a great ‘treasure chest’ of exciting new material constantly appearing for trial and evaluation, which we hope to pass on to you one day! If you are a breeder or a grower who thinks they have a new plant that could be marketed on your behalf, then you have to look no further! We welcome enquiries from anyone who believes they have a genuine new variety or sport from an existing plant. We have all the right information to help you feel assured and confident of keeping control of your new plant. Our professional experience in these matters will help explain how we provide you with a ‘test and trial’ agreement and what security we offer, and our methods of testing and plant protection. Mother stock of Tradescantia “Satin Doll” 6 Web site info Over the last year we have updated our website and introduced a few new features which we hope you will find useful. Within the “Services Section” you will find information about the types of young plants we supply and the way in which we strive to provide you with clean virus free stock. For those of you wanting images for promotional material we have introduced our “Image Library”. Here you can view images for each of the varieties we provide. These are available on request at the time of placing an order. We have also added a “Full Brochure” to the web site, which shows plants by category as well as providing a search facility for those who are looking for a specific genus or variety. “Plants in Trial” is also a new section to the on-line brochure, please check this section on a regular basis to see what kind of material we are currently trialing, but please remember this is not an exhaustive list; we have regular shipments of plants in throughout the year as well as our own selections. www.new-worldplants.com 7 Feature Plants Agapanthus ‘Shooting Stars’ An interesting variety thats taken a few years to introduce with bicolour flowers that make it distinct from the normal Agapanthus. Individual flower heads with violet blue bases opening to a creamy white. The two tone colouring is variable from flower to flower, and stem to stem. A novelty variety great for mail order and offering something different. Available from micropropagation. Bergenia ‘Diamond Drops’ A really neat compact variety with very attractive sparkling white flowers, leaves have a saw toothed edge that have a spectacular autumn colour. Clusters of cup shaped white flowers that literally sparkle when freshly opened. We are delighted to offer this new variety and add it into our recent collection of Bergenias. Available from micropropagation. Fuchsia ‘Thumbelina Gem’ A very showy gem of a hardy Fuchsia, having a compact habit ideal for patio pots and small borders. The foliage becomes intensely yellow-gold in mid summer just as it flowers profusely, and makes an unexpected back drop to the red and violet flowers. This is a combination that you would never put together naturally but makes for an impulse plant anywhere! Modules offered from traditional propagation. 8 Feature Plants Helianthus ‘Flying Saucers’ Another of our introduction’s of these big reliable perennials that stands out from the crowd ! A bushy plant with strong stems reaching about 1.2m tall that erupts into numerous large yellow daisy flowers. These smiling faces appear at different angles all over the plant, each with a flat saucer shaped flower and dark eye. No prizes for its name! Modules offered from traditional propagation. Nemesia ‘Candy Series’ This is a group of plants that are prime for filling pots and offering impulse without much effort! Whats even more unusual is that these are ‘cold hardy’ varieties and will survive mild winters outside in a drier soil conditions . Great combo of colours ideal for patio pots and gush with a scent of almonds. With such a long flowering period what more do you want ? Modules offered from traditional propagation. Salvia ‘Super Trouper’ This plant has fast become a great companion plant to Amistad. This variety is very hardy, marginally taller than Amistad but with sky blues flowers and similar foliage. The plant flowers well into the autumn and can be pinched to suit pot culture. These two varieties offer a great combo in the trade and this one has a memorable name ! Modules offered from traditional propagation. 9 10 a g in rs uc e ps D ro Sa d on m ly sF ia D hu nt ia el H ni Be rg e New for 2016 rly Ea ia ch Pe a by nr ise Su lla Lu nr ise Su hu sL ila c m oc os Cr an t ap Ag um im ys Er ia ry Fa i s ht lig te hi & s ie Sk tW rs ht ig N bu ar St ch s Fu us th Ag ap an um im ys Er Bl ue ys Er um im Tr o un lS pi ca t se ia lv Sa nd m ea Cr Je w el sa ns rri e Je a be ia ra w St lv Sa New for 2016 11 vi Sa l a on lm ce an ip se s os Fl D cl rE Ca nd y So la Sa lv ia Sa es ia em N ia lv Sa n tiv al et ns Su nd y Ca sF es rlo Ca a ni or n tto Co lif Ca Sa ia lv Sa ia es em N es em N ia Su on lm rA ga d This is a category we have reserved for a special group of plants that in our opinion have huge market potential and can be with confidence offered to your customers as a great promotional line. So far these have been all produced as elite stock items, being cleaned up from virus threats and are naturally extremely healthy! As the name implies any variety that appears in this category has the potential to be a huge success with your clients! Salvia Amistad (introduced 2012) Iberis Masterpiece (introduced 2012) Iberis Pink Ice (introduced 2013) isite purple velvet flowers emerge from what appear to be black buds giving this variety the top accolade! Amistad comes from ‘La Amistad’, which is Spanish for friendship, creating a great opportunity for this plant’s promotion. Amistad has many attributes against other ‘look a likes’ in that it is sterile, grows quickly and blooms again after trimming. A great centerpiece for mixed borders or large planters. When planted, Amistad has survived to -10 ˚C to date. Years of patience and selection have enabled us to bring you this great winning promotional plant. Not to be considered an alpine but as a good perennial plant for mixed containers on patios or for front of borders. Flowers are double the size of any other variety and stems are stocky and robust. The extra benefit of this plant is the unusually long flowering season, May to August, and even later as it does not want to stop flowering… now that’s a nice problem! This variety brings a new colour break to this genus, which makes for a good companion in any small border or rockery, as well as for pot work. A fairly compact evergreen plant flowering quite late compared to ordinary white flower types, but it’s worth the wait. Numerous flowers appear on a wide canopy of glossy green foliage from mid May to late June and beyond in some seasons. Flowers are deep pink in bud opening to ice pink giving this pretty plant its distinct two-tone combination.
