A woman rubbed a bottle and out popped a genie.
The amazed woman asked if she got three wishes.
The genie said, 'Nope, sorry, three-wish genies are a storybook myth. I'm a one-wish genie. So... what'll it
be?
The woman did not hesitate. She said, 'I want peace in the Middle East '. See this map? I want these
countries to stop fighting with each other and I want all the Arabs to love the Jews and Americans and viceversa. It will bring about world peace and harmony.
The genie looked at the map and exclaimed, 'Lady, be reasonable. These countries have been at war for
thousands of years. I'm out of shape after being in a bottle for five hundred years.. I'm good but not THAT
good! I don't think it can be done. Make another wish and please be reasonable.'
The woman thought for a minute and said, ' Well, I've never been able to find the right man. You know - one
that's considerate and fun, romantic, likes to cook and help with the house cleaning, is good in bed, and
gets along with my family, doesn't watch sports all the time, and is faithful. That is what I wish for....a good
man.'
The genie let out a SIGH, rolled his eyes and said, 'Let me see that f***** map again.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Dear Family of Rotary
Welcome to April and the cooler autumn weather.
During the month we welcomed into the family of Rotary Pam Picken and Linda Marsden-King, who follow
in the footsteps of the others who have recently joined Rotary being Marc Michel, Musa Mkhwanazi and
Elaine Redington. I know they all will be made very welcome in our club by our longer serving members,
and I wish them all the best as they work with us to fulfil our Rotary goals of making our community a better
place for all to live.
Sadly Barry Thomas has decided that after 41 years of loyal service to Rotary that he will be stepping down
at some point in the near future due to the difficulty he finds in driving at night. Equally sad is the news that
Jytte Galvin will be relocating to Kenya to take care of her mother and so will also be leaving the club
shortly. Both have given admiral service to the club in years gone by.
Billy Warner’s Ipithi has now been completed and well done to all those regulars who gave up so much of
their own time to finish the project and support Billy.
We enjoyed a raid by the Westville Villains at the end of March, and this will be followed up with another
raid on us by Hillcrest on the 7th April. We all share the same goals and objectives, and this fellowship with
other clubs is welcome.
The District Assembly was held in Port Shepstone and the purpose of it was to allow incoming DG Richard
Alborough the chance to meet the incoming Rotary Presidents and their teams. Paul Sims and some of his
incoming board were there to represent our club. The significant item that came out of the assembly was
that Public Relations is becoming very important in the planning of the year ahead under the theme
“Building Communities Bridging Continents”.
Music and Art in the Hills is scheduled for the 5th and 6th June at Makaranga Garden Lodge, featuring the
KZNPO and the Kearsney Boys Choir. We all pledge our support to Selwyn Comrie and Sue Whitmore in
the efforts to make the event even more successful than last year, and a special vote of thanks to Sue for
getting the sponsorship from Spar and Plascon towards the event. All the latest news is on our web site –
so have a look at it.

Jenny’s Corner
“If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough”.
Easter is just around the corner, wasn’t it Christmas yesterday?
The Anns are busy sourcing gardens for the open gardens. If anyone knows of any nice gardens in the
area please let us know. It is a very difficult task to get suitable gardens and to persuade the garden owners
to put them on show. I am sure that the talented ladies will pull something out of the hat.
All the cheques are out and we hope that they will be a help to all who received them.
Ingrid and Jill are our latest stars, in the highway mail. They handed over the cheque to the hillcrest aids
centre, to help with their veranda.
We have given the Quad Para enough money to get a beach wheelchair. This will allow disabled people the
joy of swimming in the ocean, a thing we so often take for granted.
“Every morning you are handed 24 golden hours. They are one of the few things in this world that you get
for free of charge. If you had all the money in the world, you couldn’t buy an extra hour. What will you do
with this priceless treasure? Remember, you must use it, as it is given only once. Once wasted you cannot
get it back.
Have a wonderful Easter and take it easy on the Easter eggs.

Vincent walks into a bar in Pretoria, orders three pints of Black Label and sits in the back of the room,
drinking a sip out of each one in turn.
When he finished all three, he comes back to the bar and orders three more.
The bartender says to him, "You know, a pint goes flat after I draw it; it would taste better if you bought one at
a time." Vinn replies, "Well, you see, I have two friends. One is in Polokwane, the other in Lebowakgomo, and
I'm here in Pretoria. When I left home, we promised that we'd drink this way to remember the days we all
drank together." The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there.
Vinn becomes a regular in the bar and always drinks the same way: he orders three pints and drinks the three
pints by taking drinks from each of them in turn.
One day, he comes in and orders two pints. All the other regulars in the bar notice and fall silent.
When he comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, "I don't want to intrude on your
grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your great loss."
Vinny looks confused for a moment, then a light dawn in his eye and he laughs. "Oh, no," he says, "Everyone
is fine. It's me..."
"...I've quit drinking!"

EDITORIAL

Your editor jumped off this cliff at
Oribi Gorge to experience an extreme
adrenalin rush. Crazy – thought I died
and opened my eyes only to realize I’m
still very much alive. The jump ended
into a glorious swing. Quite awesome!
Now that I have experienced one of my dreams I cannot wait for my roller coaster experience which is
definitely happening next year.
It is a sad thing that life sometimes just passes you by without you ever realizing your full potential or
fulfil your dreams. It is never too late to attempt anything in life – if the will is there, certainly there will
be a way.
This month has been filled with youngsters giving us of their time and experiences. We are thankful to the
youth – they have so much energy and zest for life – my Dad use to say if only he had the knowledge he
had accumulated at age 70 when he was 21 years old ,how different everything would be.
How absolutely wonderful was the talk about the blind climbers attempting Kilimanjaro!!!
Much enjoyment was had by Westville club raiding us and experiencing how things are done at Kloof.
Thanks also for the hardworking Ipithi painters. Andrena, I believe we can call on you for tiling jobs!!

WHAT IS THIS ROTARY INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMME CALLED
ROTARY FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE?
The purpose and the effect of the Friendship Exchange Programme is to bring Rotarians and their families
into the company and homes of other members of the great fellowship of Rotary International by promoting
visits between districts (often far- flung) of “teams” assembled voluntarily through their District Friendship
and promote co-operation and assistance in the many causes served by Rotary. We can vouch for the
success of the programme in support of District projects and, particularly, in the widening of the Rotary
horizons of those of us who have been prevailed upon to share homes and thoughts with Rotarians from
abroad sufficiently interested and concerned to travel to South Africa and our District on their own
expeditions of exploration and at their own cost.
Entertaining a Rotary couple from overseas is a singular experience for both hosts and guests. It expands
our understanding of Rotary and affords opportunity to meet and make friends of Rotarians of different
background and, sometimes, language, but sharing the vision and object of Rotary and applying the fourway test, not only to our lives, but to the situations in which we find ourselves in the course of a friendship
exchange.
On the other side of the coin, as the title implies, there is the pleasurable experience of return visits, in
which our teams on reciprocal tours are most generously hosted abroad. For those who are interested
there is the opportunity of visiting districts in the British Isles, France, Germany, Belgium, Australia, New
Zealand, the United States and Latin America (to name only some).

CLUB ADMINISTRATION
SPEAKERS -The control over the time of speakers presentation is 20 minutes and only rarely and only when
particularly interesting should this be extended and members invited to leave should they need to get away. Control
must be exercised.
BACKGROUND BANNERS. Two pull up banners have been ordered to replace the fold banners damaged in the fire.
FELLOWSHIP Mashie Golf day – 23 April R20 entrance to competition and cost of meal.
Raids Hillcrest on a Monday in April. Pinetown on a Thursday in May.
COMRADES – the fee to go to Club admin is important to the Club members. An organiser is sought to arrange a
roster of volunteers over the two days.
PHF It is urgent that the PHF committee obtains nominations with Cvs for suitable club members and non members.
Submissions urgently as the committee needs to meet early in April.
FULL CIRCLE will be presenting a ladder to the Club to give access to the projector etc in the ceiling of the room we
use at Augusts. Alan Gitsham was thanked.
VOCATIONAL
The careers evening is well in hand and registration fees are coming in. Invitations have been extended to two
secondary schools in the valley. Taxi fares will be subsidised for any participants.
Presentations .The Argus school has expressed their great appreciation for the gift of a photocopier. Fulton school
was presented with 3 swing machines.
A meeting with the Bongani Tembe of the KNZNPO will be arranged to discuss the Music Trust which provides
bursaries funded by the club.
This committee will in future be responsible for international out of school projects. Student exchange and in school
projects will be handled by the Youth Committee
COMMUNITY.
UBUNTU CRISIS CENTRE – There are some unresolved problems over the use of the land at the centre, with
particular reference to difficulties with the Municipality who own the land.,
VEMA is now under new management and they do not require an ambulance, but have presented the club with a
“wish list”.
FOOD Power funds have adequate funds for this project.

A Happy Marriage
A couple was celebrating their golden wedding anniversary on the beaches in
Montego Bay, Jamaica. Their domestic tranquility had long been the talk of the
town.
People would say, "What a peaceful & loving couple" The local newspaper
reporter was inquiring as to the secret of their long and happy marriage.
The Husband replied: "Well, it dates back to our honeymoon in America,"
explained the man. "We visited the Grand Canyon, in Arizona, and took a trip
down to the bottom of the canyon, by horse. We hadn't gone too far when my
wife's horse stumbled and she almost fell off. My wife looked down at the
horse and quietly said, "That's once...”
"We proceeded a little further and her horse stumbled again. Again my wife
quietly said, "That's twice." We hadn't gone a half-mile when the horse
stumbled for the third time my wife quietly removed a revolver from her purse
and shot the horse dead.
I SHOUTED at her, "What's wrong with you, Woman! Why did you shoot the
poor animal like that, are you *+%$**£" crazy!?" She looked at ME, and quietly
said, "That's once...”
"And from that moment... we lived happily every after."
