Optima 360 Series Hydrostatic level transmitter.
The 'Optima' series uses the established measurement principle of pressure sensitive
diaphragm and LVDT. Our unparalleled experience in the use of this technology over
many thousands of applications results in a transmitter capable of performing accurately
and reliably in the most demanding and arduous duties.
Diaphragms are provided in a choice of corrosion resistant alloys and are offered in a
number of “nominal” ranges, each engineered for optimum performance on it’s
measurement span. Diaphragm travel is limited by mechanical design, providing
unmatched tolerance to high overload and shock conditions.
Production employs TIG fusion technology and Mass Spectrometry analysis to ensure
complete integrity of all welded joints. A process of thermal ‘ageing’ is used for stress
relief and to ensure long-term stability in service.
Submersible construction is standard and the sensor may be free standing , suspended,
clamped or pole mounting within the vessel. For external mounting, any standard flange or thread may

460 series liquid level transmitters for the marine industry
With many thousands of transmitters installed on all classes of
Ships from Military vessels to Tankers, the design of the
‘Tankstar’ series draws on over 20 years successful application
experience. Fully compliant with the latest IEC and Marine Industry
standards, its rugged construction provides reliable and accurate
monitoring of liquid levels in the harsh environments of shipboard
tanks and draught applications, where conditions of high overload,
shock, vibration, and temperature variation are common.
The measuring principle of pressure sensitive diaphragm &
L.V.D.T combines excellent sensitivity and long term stability The
‘Tankstar’ has the sensitivity needed to accurately measure
shallow tanks but will sustain a 50 times overload without damage.The all welded sensor is
manufactured from high grade alloys selected for their stability & corrosion resistance. A wide choice
of fittings and the remotely mounted amplifier maximises installation flexibility and serviceability.

Sensors are maintenance free and contain no active
electronic components. A factory sealed cable is supplied
to the required length for direct connection to the amplifier.
The standard sensor cable has a heavy duty outer sheath
of cross linked polymers which are suitable for continuous
immersion in both sea water, fuels and hydrocarbons. An
optional performance cable permits use of sensor in
extreme temperature limits of -50°C to +150°C .

NASC 290 Series transmitters measure density as a function of differential pressure. Each
unit has two pressure sensitive diaphragms, each of which are located at a known elevation
in the tank. Under normal operation both diaphragms will be submerged, and since the
distance between them is fixed, any variation in the pressure differential between them
must be a function of the liquid density.
Within the sensor construction the diaphragms are hydraulically linked, the lower
diaphragm is “rated” to suit the density span while the upper is compliant and provides a
pressure transfer, via the hydraulic fill, to the rear of the rated diaphragm. Actual
displacement of the lower diaphragm is measured using the proven LVDT principle. An
amplifier module receives the LVDT’s output signal and conditions it to provide a 4 to 20
mA output over the required span. For convenience this amplifier may be sited up to 100
Meters away from the sensor. NASC’s unrivaled experience in the design and application of
pressure sensitive diaphragms and a versatile approach to unit construction, ensures
optimum performance on all applications. Examples of previous successes include duties as
diverse as Beer fermentation vessels, where very small changes in density must be resolved
and hygienic construction is needed, and Drilling Mud storage vessels where mechanical
protection and rugged construction are essential.
Units can be manufactured to suit either external flanged, threaded, or hygienic fittings, or
as a completely submersible unit suitable for pole suspension or clamping in place.
