This Tech Note will show you a quick step-by-step procedure for configuring the InGear AllenBradley Data Access Server, OPCLink™ I/O Server, and OPC Tag Browser™. The Tech Note is
divided into three sections as follows:
Section 1 - Configuring the INGEAR OPC DA Server for the AB (ControlLogix) PLCs
Section 2 - Configuring the OPCLink I/O Server
Section 3 - Using the OPC Tag Browser to create InTouch™ Tags
Before you begin, make sure that the following have been installed:
INGEAR Allen Bradley Data Access OPC Server version 2.25.30.01 or greater.
Wonderware® OPCLink I/O Server version 7.3.1.6 or greater.
InTouch version 7.1 with patch 6 or greater.
OPC Browser version 7.0.1.1 or greater.
Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000. For their respective service packs, please see Tech
Alert 4.
Networking hardware and software; they should be in working condition.
Note: Throughout this Tech Note, it is assumed that you have a basic working
knowledge and understanding of Allen-Bradley PLCs, OPC connectivity, INGEAR OPC
DA Server, Wonderware OPCLink I/O Server, and Wonderware InTouch HMI
software.
Section 1 - Configuring the INGEAR OPC DA Server for the
ControlLogix PLCs
The INGEAR OPC DA Server offers several benefits as follows:
There is no need for the RSLinx or a third-party driver to access data in the Allen-Bradley
PLCs.
It is easy and straightforward to use.
It supports all Allen Bradley PLC/SLC data files and ControlLogix 5550 native tag
addressing.
It supports multiple communications interfaces.
The following steps will show you how to set up a connection from the INGEAR OPC Server to a
ControlLogix PLC.
1. Start up the INGEAR OPC Server for the Allen-Bradley Networks.
a. On the menu bar, click Add/New Device to add a PLC.
b. Click OK to acknowledge the message “No drivers have been installed” (Figure 1).

following is the list of prefixes for the OPC tag types: d - for the discrete type; i for the integer type; r - for the real or floating type; and m - for a string or
message.
6. Follow step 5 to create more OPC tags for the InTouch application.
a. After you have finished all the tags, click on Done to close the OPC Browser dialog
window.
