FROM THE DESK OF GROUP MD
F
or many of us, Q2 will go down in our memories
as a momentous quarter, filled with moments of
pride and exciting events – as the younger generation
would put it, it was a ‘happening’ quarter!
The highlight of the quarter was undoubtedly the National
Labour Day Celebration in May 2015, when Naim was
chosen by the Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia to
represent the nation’s workforce by providing a contingent
to deliver the pledge during the event. We did this flawlessly
and with pride – in front of a 10,000-strong crowd and the
nation. It was indeed a defining moment in our Group’s
history!
Our 20th Anniversary celebration also picked up steam as we
organised the ‘Coaching and Mentoring for Organisational
Excellence’ professional development seminar for our team
members and the Kuching community, demonstrating our
commitment towards continuous learning. It was indeed a
pleasure to have been coached by one of the world’s best
Coaching and Leadership Gurus, Dr Peter Chee - it was
both a fun and enlightening experience for all!
We also commenced our first-ever collaboration with the
Forest Department Sarawak for a 3-year environmental
conservation and awareness programme – our Kuching
team members created a record of sorts when they
successfully planted more than 1,000 mangrove seedlings
within an hour at the Kuching Wetlands National Park, the
first activity under this programme. We can all do our part to
give Mother Nature a hand!
Happy Reading!
Best Regards
Datuk Hasmi Hasnan

NAIM COMES TO THE RESCUE: ASSISTS FOREIGN WORKERS INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT
(9 April 2015)
It was both a shocking and difficult morning for a
group of Naim’s foreign workers of its Klang Valley Mass
Rapid Transit (KVMRT) Project (Package S4) – the bus
they were travelling in was involved in an accident en
route to the work site due to brake failure. 6 workers
were injured in the accident.
Upon receiving the news of the incident, Naim’s
KVMRT management team led by its Group Managing
Director, Datuk Hasmi Hasnan, promptly sprang into
action by liaising with the relevant authorities and
ensuring that the workers received immediate medical
assistance required. The team also accompanied the
injured workers to the University Hospital and provided
assistance on matters such as counselling, financial
assistance and other forms of assistance.

NAIM AIDS SECRETARIES’ SOCIETY SARAWAK: AN AFTERNOON OF FUN FOR A GOOD CAUSE
(11 April 2015)
Naim attended a high tea event organised
by the Secretaries’ Society Sarawak (SSS) in
collaboration with the Biro Wanita Kelab Yayasan
Sarawak held at the Imperial Hotel, Kuching. The
event, which was organised in conjunction with
the Professional Secretaries’ Week, aimed to raise
funds for the Society’s activities and part of the
event’s proceeds was also donated to appointed
charitable organisations.
The event featured an interesting programme
line-up, which included an inspiring talk entitled
‘Cultivating Impactful Attitudes That Soar With The
Eagles’ by an experienced KL-based facilitator.

NAIM HELPS SCHOOL WITH CLEANING WORKS: EMBARKS ON ‘GOTONG-ROYONG’ WITH SK
ST. ANTHONY, BINTULU
(18 April 2015)
It was a tiring but meaningful day when 60 Naim
Bintulu staff members and 20 teachers participated in
a joint ‘gotong-royong’ exercise at SK St. Anthony in
Bintulu. Comprising of staff from Naim’s Bintulu Paragon
project and Oil and Gas team, the half day activity, which
commenced with a fun morning exercise, continued with
works such as the backfilling of the school’s football field
to provent ponding and general cleaning of the school’s
compound.

NAIM EXTENDS AID BEYOND BORDERS:
CONTRIBUTES TO NEPALESE WORKERS
(25 April 2015)
Naim provided financial aid to its Nepalese workers
whose families were affected by the devastating Gorkha
earthquake which struck Nepal, leaving a trail of massive

assisted the workers to make travel arrangements back
to Nepal, with its officers providing counselling to them as
well. These actions reflect the true spirit of the Naim Family
– that the Group cares for the well-being of its workforce
irregardless of race, nationality, creed and job ranks.

FLYING THE NAIM FLAG HIGH
11 – 15 March 2015
Many would agree that 2015’s Labour Day Celebration was an experience
unlike any other, for it was the day that Naim was showcased to the nation
and became the voice of the nation’s workforce.
Naim was chosen by the Ministry of Human Resources, Malaysia to represent the nation’s workforce by
providing a contingent to deliver the pledge during the National-level Labour Day Celebration held in Kuching
this year. Graced by Malaysia’s Prime Minister, YAB Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Sarawak’s Chief Minister,
YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Haji Adenan Bin Haji Satem and other dignitaries, the momentous event saw a
turnout of 10,000-strong crowd at the Borneo Convention Centre, Kuching.
All eyes of the nation were on Naim’s 60-member contingent as it marched smartly into the hall led by
its contingent leader, Awang Khairuddin Sulong bin Awang Sabli. Comprising staff from all divisions and
departments, contingent members were dressed in different attires, representative of Naim’s diverse business
operations. A feeling of indescribable pride filled the air as Awang delivered the pledge in a clear and firm voice
to the nation, accompanied by heads of the Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) and Congress of Union
of Employees in the Public and Civil Services Malaysia (CUEPACS).
Hours of painstaking drill training under the hot sun paid off, as evidenced by the contingent’s smooth and
confident execution of the marching regime during the event. The event will undoubtedly go down in Naim’s
history as a defining moment and a true reflection of the Naim Family’s indefatigable spirit - the day when Naim
became the pride of Sarawak and the nation.

‘GO GREEN’ ROCKS!
(12 & 13 June 2015)
Naim believes that building a strong business and
creating a better world are essential ingredients for
long-term success. As part of the Group’s efforts in
creating a ‘greener’ environment, the Group entered
into a collaboration with Forest Department Sarawak
(FDS) for an environmental conservation and
awareness programme. The collaboration was also
one of the Group’s main 20th Anniversary celebratory
activities.
Under the collaboration, Naim would be embarking
on a 3-year environmental conservation programme
which includes wetlands conservation in Kuching and
tree-planting initiatives in Miri and Bintulu. In addition,
Naim and the Forest Department Sarawak would
embark on various conservation awareness initiatives
for staff and students of designated schools.
The collaboration got off to a resounding start
with the Group’s first mangrove seedlings planting
at the Kuching Wetlands National Park. Located at
the Matang area, the national park is one of the five
Ramsar sites in Malaysia and a sanctuary for many
types of migratory birds, exotic mangrove wildlife and
marine life. Over 75 staff members participated in the
planting activity.
It was a hilarious and educational experience as staff
trudged in (at times) knee-high mud in an attempt to
plant ‘bakau kurap’ and ‘bakau minyak’ seedlings. The
team’s effort paid off when team members managed
to plant more than 1,000 seedlings within 45 minutes,
creating a history of sorts based on FDS’ records.
A great way to spend the weekend indeed!
