PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
Wasn’t that a Party!! Congratulations to the nominees and winners of the 2010 SCMA awards
weekend. If I wore a hat, I would take it off and throw it in the air in celebration of another great weekend of country music, fun and fellowship! To the Host committee chair Bernice Hiebert, committee
chairs and the army of volunteers, the Board of Directors congratulates you on your hundreds of hours
of hard work.
The best of the best in Country music were on hand for a weekend of networking, seminars,
awards and great country music. Events included the Youth, Adult and Gospel Show cases, songwriter’s
café, workshops with SOCAN and Saskmusic, and culminated with the Awards show Sunday night,
hosted by Canadian singer/songwriter Victoria Banks. Music lovers from all over Saskatchewan
were in attendance to enjoy some great music and fellowship.
The Annual General meeting was held Saturday morning. Some of the matters discussed and
voted on at the AGM included revisions to the Association’s constitution & bylaws, and the implementation of a multiple year membership option. Elections were held to fill two positions on the Executive
Board of Directors. Elected were:
1st Vice President: Eric Anderson (Prince Albert Country Music Association);
Secretary: Bev Hallett (Regina & Southern Saskatchewan Country Music Association);
The remaining directors are: President: Ken Landers, 2nd Vice-President: Al Leblanc, (NECMA) Nipawin; and Treasurer: Bernice Hiebert, Regina
The executive also welcomed a new regional director, Linda Rheaume from CJVR Melfort, to the board.
The Kick off party Friday night got the weekend started, featuring some fantastic new performers from across Saskatchewan and hosted by CKRM 620’s Willy Cole. The Adult showcase was held Saturday afternoon, hosted by Cristy Beggs of 92.9 The Bull, and featured new upcoming artists Steven
Maguire, Amanda Jane Duncan, the Steve Gibson Band and Tim Toutant.
The President’s award banquet was held Saturday night, hosted by Big Dog 92.7’s Brad Grass
and Heather Prosak, and featured performances by Samara Yung, Ashley St. Denis, Kal Hourd, Sheila
Deck and this year’s guest host, Victoria Banks. This event handed out industry awards, such as on air
personality of the year, manager of the year, and all star band awards.
Sunday morning’s Gospel showcase was hosted by Jim Strom of Country 100 Moose Jaw, and
featured veteran entertainers Denise Gerein, Lorraine Hartsook and Aven Grace. Sunday afternoon, it
was the Youth Showcase, hosted by Cristy Beggs of 92.9 The Bull, and the Songwriters Workshop, featuring Victoria Banks.
The weekend wrapped up with the awards show at Casino Regina and hosted by special guest
Victoria Banks. The show, produced by Paul Lomheim, handed out awards including Male Artist of the
year, Female artist of the year, Entertainer of the Year, as well as the Legends and Legacy award to longtime member and supporter Brenda Chute-Olde of Nipawin, and the SCMA Achievement award to
CJVR FM Country for their countless years of support to the association and country music in Saskatchewan. A complete list of all awards follows.
Plans are underway to finalize the Host city for the 22nd Annual Awards in 2011, and will be
announced soon. Again, thanks to all who attended and brought forth your input to the directors on how
we can do things better. As I move into my second year as President, I thank you all for your support,
patience and suggestions. No idea is ever turned away or discounted, so please feel free to contact myself or any of our Board of Directors if you have ideas on how we can do things bigger, better and
smarter.
I also want to take a moment to thank the spouses and significant others of the volunteers, performers and the board of directors. THANK YOU for your support that allows us to do what we do.
Yours in Country Music,

Hi Folks, and greetings from the Prince Albert Chapter. Activities around Prince
Albert have slowed down quite a bit, as far as PACMA is concerned. While individual performers are definitely making their mark in the music world, both locally and further afield, the chapter is at a crossroads. Our membership is not
seeming to find the need to be involved with the organization. We have discontinued regular meetings due to lack of interest. It is often difficult to get enough
performers to fill a program, without relying on the old standbys.
We are holding our AGM on May 18 at 7:00 pm in the Log Cabin on the PAEX
grounds. I would really encourage all members to make it out to this meeting. This is YOUR organization, in which YOU have a say as to what we do, and
the organization's future. The coffee will be on.

month. Meetings start at 7:30pm at the

NECMA will be holding a special meeting on May 17 to organize its program for
a July 19th performance at the Nipawin Exhibition grandstand. We are blessed
with new members coming on board with loads of talent that promises a well
rounded presentation and business dimension. Look for the names Russell
Galbreson on lead guitar and Laura Soucy on fiddle in months ahead. We also
have some new talent on base with Don Fetter.
We continue to hold our regular meetings on the last Monday of the month as
usual at the Nipawin OASIS Center and, except for rehearsals, the last meeting
for the season will be on June 28 .
The beautiful setting at River Trail Country Vacations ten miles north and west
of Love will be the site of our BBQ/jam/party. etc., on June 19.

fans and we look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s event.
Thank you to our Host Committee and Volunteers for all your time and assistance. The Host
Committee was committed to providing a top-notch weekend, and that is exactly what we
achieved with your help. Thank you is also extended to each of our many Sponsors and Contributors. Without you we would not have been able to host this event. Congratulations to

please contact any member of our Executive to discuss details and commitment.

To Bernice Hiebert and the Host Committee of the 2010 SCMA Awards;
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Saskatchewan Country Music Association, I wish to extend
my heartfelt congratulations on a job well done! This year’s awards were quite successful, and would
not have been, had it not been for your contribution.
I also wish to extend thanks to your spouses and significant others for their support of you, as you
gave up your precious time with them to make this another great event in Saskatchewan Country
Music.
It is because of your volunteerism that the awards were a success. You and everyone involved should
be proud of the show that the Regina and Southern Saskatchewan Country Music association put on
this year.
Again, thank you for a great time. We couldn’t have done it without you!
Yours in Country Music,
Ken Landers, President
Sask Country Music Association
