Welcome to Fiesta, Sydney’s biggest celebration
of Latino music, food, dance and culture.
Fiesta is part of Darling Harbour’s wider Culture Beats program,
which celebrates Australia’s diversity with exciting festivals from
all over the world throughout the year. This year, Fiesta takes place
over two fun-filled weekends packed with film, free live music and
dance performances.
MAJOR PARTNER
On the first weekend, Saturday 4 to Monday 6 October, ‘The Best
of’ the Sydney Latin American Film Festival will light up the big
screen from 7pm – 10.30pm. Then the party continues into the
second weekend with the Fiesta Festival commencing on
Saturday 11 October from 12 noon – 9pm through to Sunday
12 October from 12 noon – 6pm. Join us for world-class
entertainment, music and dance with hot international acts, local
talent, Mexican wrestlers, DJs, street football freestylers and lots
more. And for those with a thirst (and hunger) for delicious food,
just follow your nose to a sizzling feast from one of the many
Darling Harbour restaurants.
So get ready; it’s time to say ’bienvenidos’, welcome to Fiesta!

Selkirk, the real Robinson
Crusoe (Uruguay)
A multi-award winning animated family
feature about Selkirk, an unruly pirate,
who gambles away his savings. It’s only
when he’s marooned on an uninhabited
island that he starts to see the world
differently. This movie was selected for
the 24èmes Rencontres Cinémas
d’Amérique Latine de Toulouse, France.
A Dios Momo (Uruguay)
Eleven-year-old Obdulio sells
newspapers to support his family,
until he meets a night watchman with
magical powers. Earning a special
mention at the 7th New York Latino
Film Festival, this family movie
celebrates life, friendship and the
magic of knowledge.

includes six award-winning feature-length films that represent the diversity
of stories, cultures and voices from Bolivia, Uruguay, Brazil and more.

girl and their punishment is sealed in
envelopes which they’re forbidden to
open. This beautifully animated film
won Best Film in the 2013 La Habana
International Film Festival and was
Uruguay’s submission for Best
Foreign Language Film, Oscar
Academy Awards 2014.
The Clown (Brazil)
Topsy Turvy (Venezuela)
Unhappy with his circus existence,
Benjamin the clown, runs away to
lead a normal life and to find a place
to call home. This multi-award winner,
including Winner of the 2012 Huelva
Latin American Film Festival, was
Brazil’s entry for Best Foreign Film
at the 2013 Academy Awards.
When ailing Renato’s devoted children
send him to hospital, he plans to
escape. This feature length, gentle
comedy about family ties across
generations, won numerous awards
in the 2012 Venezuelan Film Festival.
All films feature English subtitles.

Crema
Paraiso
Los Crema Paraiso is a trendy, trippy
psychedelic rock experience right from
Brooklyn. Neil Ochoa (Si Se), José Luis
Pardo (Los Amigos Invisibles) and
Alvaro Benavides, fuse Venezuelan
traditional music with jazz, rock, funk,
latin grooves, electronica and exotic
sounds from all over the world.
This is one of the only Latin bands in
Australian music history to have
cracked the international market with
original music written here in Australia.
Son Veneno will feature a key
performance by C Major, a world-class
artist who turned all four chairs in The
Voice Australia 2014. Special guest
Merenia Gillies, soul/funk/world music
vocalist, will also complement this
musical performance.

Afro-Colombian rock and roots band
Watussi, have entertained audiences
in music festivals around the world
with their energetic performances.
Their latest release boasts elements of
original vintage keys, blustering horns
and powerful percussive rhythms.
A 15-piece band that blends the purest
sounds of traditional Cumbia, with
contemporary Caribbean rhythms
like Ragga and Reggae. Cumbiamuffin
will showcase Colombian Cumbia with
a fun and contemporary sound that
literally bounces off the stage.
