Welcome back from summer break! I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing summer. The weather will be changing soon and we will be back to cooler
evenings.
I would like to thank everyone who has stepped up to volunteer on the Board
of Governors this year. I'm looking forward to a fantastic year. We still have a
few positions open, if you would like to see what they are and volunteer just contact me. We have had a few changes on the Executive Board, LeeAnne Gooding
and Lucinda Rogers both got orders to PCS this summer. We wish them well on
their future journeys. We have two lovely ladies who have stepped up to replace
them. They are Kelli Bailey as Secretary and Jill Belarmino as 1st Vice. Thank
you to you both!
Our August Activities Coffee will be an exciting event with our Hawaiian
theme. Be sure to bring your coconuts. I'm sure Lori Enochian and Serena Harrison are going to surprise us all. September will bring an outstanding luncheon
held by our program chair Paula Cardenas. Theme yet to be determined. Will be
announced soon. I'm sure it's going to be outstanding with any theme she comes
up with.
September will be a busy month with the re-opening of our Thrift Shop and our
new Activities room in Building 95. I want to thank Phyllis Artz and all her
volunteers for their outstanding effort to make our Thrift Shop a great new
place. All your hard work is highly appreciated.
I would like to give a BIG Thank You to Lucinda
Rogers and her awesome board that she had this year.
Your shoes will be hard to fill and you are going to be
deeply missed.
I look forward to making this a great year!
Sincerely,
Linda Tallent
WPOSC President

Airmen's Cookie Drive 2013!
Mark your calendar now for the 2013 Airmen's Cookie Drive
coming up on December 3rd!
Every year we work together with the First Sergeants and Spouses in Action
to donate and collect thousands of cookies to give to the single airmen who live in
the dorms, those who are on duty on Christmas, and the gate guards who work
during the holidays. Last year we had a grand total of over 24,000 cookies! In
order to achieve our goal to have enough cookies for all of the single airmen again
this year we will need everyone's help!
We need cookie donations, volunteers to box the cookies on December 3rd,
and volunteers to make breakfast for the First Sergeants who will deliver the
cookies on December 4th.
To sign up to be on the Cookie Drive Volunteer List, please email Sarah Folks
at [email protected].

Welcome to another year of the Antiques Societé, one of the activities that’s been part of the
WPOSC for over fifty years! If you are interested in learning about antiques, this activity is for you. We
have guest speakers who enlighten us about a variety of subjects, yet we also learn from each other. We
also take a bus trip once a year outside the Dayton area to visit a historic place of interest, have lunch and
shop for antiques.
Traditionally, in September, we encourage everyone to bring something to Show &Tell. It can be
an item you inherited, purchased over the summer at a flea market, garage sale or antique store or
something you’ve had but always wanted to know more about. Longtime Antiques Societé member Helen
Mullenix will help us find answers regarding our treasures. You don’t have to bring an antique to join us;
just come to learn, meet new people, enjoy a nice meal and have fun. And, our door prizes are always
antiques.
Please note dates for the remaining 2013 programs: In October, we’ll be doing the tour (that was
previously scheduled for last May) on the second Friday, October 11th. In November, we’ll meet the fourth
Friday in the WP club on November 22nd. Our very popular Christmas Decorating with Antiques will be in
the WP club on Wednesday December 11th.

Chicks4Flicks is a fun group for people who love movies! We will usually see a romantic comedy or drama that our spouses do not want to see. We will continue to meet at a variety of days and
times to accommodate everyone's busy schedules.
The August & September movie date, time, and location will be announced via Evite as the date gets
closer!

MONTHLY MEETINGS: Second Saturday of the Month at 6:30 PM
This group is comprised of active duty and retired military and their spouse. For more than twenty years
the group met in building 1083, but as it is being torn down we have lost our space. Therefore this coming
school year will be a year of transition. We may be able to meet at the new space in the future, but it is not
complete enough yet for hosting dinners.
We have options such as meeting in each others’ homes, eating at a restaurant, having a picnic in the
park, dining downtown before a theater production or whatever the monthly host coordinates. We enjoy the
social aspect of this group as many dear friendships have developed, but we also enjoy cooking homemade
food to share with each other. If you are interested in meeting great people and enjoying delicious food at a
reasonable cost (expenses are always evenly divided) then you should join us. Please call or email Kathy.

We Need You!
We are used to it...in fact we have come to expect it…
and we probably define it as “normal” — The PCS.
Several active group leaders and members have
moved on to new assignments leaving us with several
openings for new leaders and members to participate
in our fun, outgoing group!
How Can You Help?
The following existing groups and activities need new
leaders or co-chairs: Scholarships, Reservations,
Creative Cooking, Coffee Group, Lunch Bunch, Just
Desserts, Wine and Dine and Shopping Spouses.
For More Information:
Contact any of our Executive Committee Members or
stop by and see Lori Enochian or Serena Harrison at the
Activities Welcome and Coffee on August 22, 2013.
We will be thrilled to help you get connected with your
passion for giving back to other military spouses!

Change is inevitable. As military
spouses, we know that as well as
anyone. We are accustomed to packing up
and moving across the country or around
the world, only to do it again in a few
years. We can grumble, but what good does
that do? Our challenge is to embrace new
situations and find the adventure within.
Flying Needles will be facing some
changes this fall. Some of our faithful
members will be moving on to new
assignments; new faces will be replacing
them. We will be meeting in the new
Activities Room and finding our way around
the new facility.
Stop by our table at the Activities and
Welcome Coffee. We would love to meet
you and encourage you to join our
needlework network. We offer inspiration,
encouragement and good company in a
vibrant, creative atmosphere.
We meet twice a month, on the second
and fourth Mondays
9:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
Bring a sack lunch and stay for the day or
come and go as you are able.

NEXT MEETING: Friday, September 20 (RSVP by
Wed, Sept 18), 10:00am, Activities Room, Bldg. 95
(We meet on the Third Fridays, so go ahead and mark

The Daytime Bunco group runs a little differently than
the Evening Bunco group, but if you love
to play Bunco, it just doesn’t matter. We
start rolling at 10:00am and play 36
rounds. Please be a little early to get
signed in so we can start and finish on
time! We do not do a potluck brunch,
but we occasionally ask for donations to
buy table snacks, on an as-needed basis. This will be
announced in our monthly Evite. Otherwise, cost is $5.00
per person – please bring a five or 5 ones.

9:30 AM and finished by noon. We have been meeting at
the Cherry House Cafe in Beavercreek (behind McDonalds
on Dayton-Xenia Road) while we look for a permanent
"home". Any member of the OSC is welcome to attend - you
have to attend at least three (3) meetings to decide if you
would wish to join. We have a "Club" portfolio that we all
invest in - BUT - the main purpose of the club is to teach you
how to invest on your own. Think about how this information
can aide you in investing for you and your family’s' future.
Please call ahead to one of the contact members and we
can give you up-to-date meeting dates and times.
See you all at the Activities Coffee
to answer any questions.
Future meeting dates: August 19
and September 9.

party games, card games, strategy games, etc., depending on the interests of the group each
month. Please bring a sweet or savory dish to share and any games you want to play. We will probably have at least 2 games going at once and switch up throughout the evening, so hopefully, there will
be something for everyone!

materials fee to participate in GGC. Late arrivals are okay!

The International Spouses Group is an active group within the Officers' Spouses Group. Our members
represent countries from every continent on the globe. We have members from foreign communities stationed at Wright Patterson, USA retired and active members.
The meetings provide us with exciting and lasting friendships while allowing each and every one of
us to experience both the uniqueness and similarities of all cultures. We help each other around the community, and announce area events for those that are interested.
We meet on the first Friday of every month in Chapel 3, off Spinning Rd. in the Prairies Housing area,
unless otherwise stated. The address: 5868 Chapel Lane, Riverside, OH 45433-6003.
Directions from Area B: Take Col Glenn Hwy toward Airway Road; turn left at
the 'Speedway' traffic lights onto Spinning Road; turn right onto Chapel Lane; Chapel Number 3 is at the end
-on Chapel Lane.
We have no membership fees, however we do volunteer to provide food from our native countries
during every gathering. Children and family are welcome.
The main funding our organization receives is through our participation in the International Fair in
April. We also provide a scholarship to one qualified individual from our group who is chosen by an independent board of judges.
Our meetings throughout the summer were very interactive and fun. June 7th featured a presentation
by our Aussie friend Jacqui Carswell, where she delighted all of the members with Australian gifts. On July
5th we learned to make home made body scrubs, and members were able to take home some Star & Stripe
themed citronella candles. Our August 2nd meeting taught us how to make beaded bracelets and take home
our finish product, offering a great learning experience for children and adults. On September 6th we will
learn the intriguing art technique of floating dyes or paint on water called Ebru taught by our Turkish members.
We hope to see you at our meetings!
NEW * Shooters’ Club * NEW
The new Shooters’ Club is led by Kally Morrison, an NRA Certified
instructor, who will be conducting some fun beginners courses for new or
experienced shooters. They will be holding their first organizational meeting on
Friday, September 6, from 9:00-10:00am in the Activities Room of Building 95.
After this meeting, they will be scheduling range time for future “meetings!”
Please contact Kally at [email protected] if you would like to join.

Let's get out and explore at The Children's Discovery Garden located on Wegerzyn Gardens on
August 23rd at 10:00 am. The Children’s Discovery Garden is a child-friendly place to discover,
experience and love our world through gardening. Divided into three main areas, the garden offers
opportunities to play among interesting and whimsical plant displays, learn about Ohio habitats, and grow
vegetables and other backyard plants. The garden also has a water play area with a cave for the little
ones to run around, so be sure to pack your swimsuits. There is also a picnic area available, so feel free to
bring your lunch. Hope you are all enjoying your summer and see you soon!

Rubber Stamp Club
Chair: Lori Enochian, 937-912-9909, [email protected]
DAYTRIP: Saturday, August 10, 7:30am, meet at Mimi’s Café parking lot at The Greene and
carpool to Sharonville, OH, to the “Stampaway USA” convention. We will spend the day shopping for all
the latest and greatest stamping products, watching lots of demos, participating in make-n-take projects,
learning new techniques, trading artwork (ATCs), and socializing with about 2000 other rubber stampers! We
expect to be back around 6:00pm. Please RSVP by Wed, Aug 7, so that we can assure you a seat and
determine if we need a “full-day” car and a “partial-day” car.
NEXT MEETING: Friday, September 13 (RSVP by Wed, Sept 11), 10:00am, Activities Room, Bldg. 95
(We meet on the Second Fridays, so go ahead & mark your calendar now through the end of the year!)
Grab your rubber stamping and paper crafting supplies and come join us as we tackle new stamping
projects in a workshop format. Each month, one member leads a hands-on demo of their choice. In September, Joann Mathews will teach us how to make an accordion portfolio, which she learned while on a cruise
this spring! We’ll each create our own portfolio and leave with a great piece in which to save our small treasures and tokens from any vacation, trip or activity. It’s small enough to carry in a purse or pocket and can
also be displayed in a spot of your choice! In addition to the demo, we’ll also socialize and share stamprelated news. All levels of stampers are welcome, even beginners who have never inked up a stamp. We’ll
bring you up-to-speed in no time! Please send an e-mail to get on our mailing list. A description of the
monthly demo and a short list of supplies to bring will be e-mailed out each month.

is a vocal group with a long history at
WPAFB. We are group of ladies who love to sing. None are
music majors, but we are looking for someone with experience or
education in music to join us as a director and/or
accompanist. Traditionally we practice Tuesday am in Chapel 1;
however, that is negotiable if there is a conflict with singers. We have a diverse
music selection; the director and accompanist help decide it for our programs. Also
we love to go for lunch and socialize after practices and concerts. We are kid
friendly if you have babies or fairly well-behaved preschoolers, bring them along.

Spouses Night Out

head out with some fun, local, Wright-Patterson Spouses? We invite you to join our
group, Spouses' Night Out, also known as SNO! SNO is a group where we, as spouses, can get
together for activities and dinners. Come out for a fabulous time!
Each month, I will send out an Evite that will include all of the information for the upcoming
SNO. Please be sure to RSVP on the Evite by the deadline. You will notice that on the Evite and in
TWW I will mention if the event is kid friendly. Of course you never HAVE to bring your kiddos if
you need a night to yourself, but I don't want anyone to miss out because of a childcare issue!
Email Sarah Folks at [email protected] to be added to the Evite list
for this group and stay in the loop!
