We are pleased to bring you the fall edition of our newsletter,
designed to provide practice information and updates to help you
stay informed on the latest news at Wake Plastic Surgery.
This quarter’s focus is on enhancing the beauty within. For years, women have enjoyed the
benefits of anti-aging treatments such as Facelifts and Botox. Men are now taking advantage
of these transformative procedures in an effort to minimize the signs of aging. In my practice
I have seen a 20% increase in the number of male patients having plastic surgery over the past
four years. I have also noted a steady increase in the number of male patients seeking nonsurgical procedures such as Botox. In the past, there may have been some degree of stigma
associated with men having cosmetic procedures. But those days are over! To learn more, read
our article, “Botox isn’t just for Women – Introducing BRO-tox” on page 2.
This month’s case of the month feature is on facelift surgery. As we age, our features tend to
droop. Facelift surgery is a powerful way to significantly restore the aging face back to a more
youthful appearance. In this newsletter, we are happy to share the results of a patient who felt
she no longer looked like herself due to the aging process. Learn more about facelift surgery
on page 3.
Also this quarter, we are focusing on breast cancer awareness. There are many things happening
across the nation this month in honor of this important cause. As such, we decided to donate
a portion of our October revenue to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Feel confident that any
purchases or procedures you have during the month of October will benefit a worthy cause!
Patty’s Pick this month features microdermabrasion for men. Taking care of our skin is
something most men do not regularly do. This contributes to a variety of problems such as
premature aging and even sun damage. Learn how microdermabrasion can rejuvenate male
skin by reading Patty’s Pick on page 4.
Finally, take a look at page 5 to learn about upcoming events and ongoing specials at Wake
Plastic Surgery.
Thank you for your loyalty. Without you, we would not be here. My door is always open.
Please feel free to share your thoughts anytime.

INTRODUCING BRO-TOX!
Botox isn’t just
for women...
Over the years women have realized the benefits of antiaging products, services and procedures. The need to keep
the undesired signs of aging at bay has created a boom in
the anti-aging industry. Valued at approximately $80
billion dollars in the U.S. now, it is projected to grow to
$114 billion by 2015. Yet women aren’t the only ones who
want to look and feel their best. Men too are seeking out
products and services to minimize the signs of aging. They
are exercising more, eating a healthy diet and even visiting
their local plastic surgeon.
Male skin care is now one of the fastest growing sectors
within the beauty industry. Taking care of their appearance
is just another way for men to look and feel their best. It
is no longer taboo for men to want to take care of
themselves. Cosmetic products are now being produced
and marketed specifically to men and for men. This has
helped many feel more comfortable giving them a try,
which has evolved into an appreciation for cosmetic
procedures as well.
One reason men have turned to anti-aging products and
procedures such as Botox, is the need to maximize their
potential in the job market. With more young people
seeking higher level jobs that were historically dominated
by 40 and 50-somethings, it stands to reason why many
are turning to treatments to help them look younger and
more refreshed. It helps them remain competitive in
today’s over-saturated job market. Treatments such as
Botox have made a significant difference in the
marketability of many men seeking jobs as well as those in
the dating world. Board-certified plastic surgeon William
Stoeckel, MD of Wake Plastic Surgery has seen a steady
increase over the years in the number of male patients who
are benefiting from Botox treatments.
“Many of my male patients are part of the sales, advertising
or retail industries and tell me that looking young and
refreshed continues to be critical for their line of work,”
Stoeckel said of his cosmetic procedure business. “Others
simply want to look and feel their best and Botox is a
subtle but real way of helping make that happen.”
Michael, a Wake Plastic Surgery patient, is a believer in the
benefits of cosmetic procedures including Botox.”I am a man
and I want to look good,” said Michael. “Who wouldn’t want
to look younger? Looking good helps me feel good about
myself, and I do this for me and no one else.”
Botox isn’t the only treatment men are seeking out to
improve their appearance. According to the American
Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), more than
800,000 procedures were performed on men in 2011.
Since 2009, Wake Plastic Surgery has seen an increase of
20% of males having plastic surgery. The most common
procedures for men at their practice are gynecomastia
(male breast reduction) and liposuction.
Regardless of whether men are seeking out plastic surgery
or non-surgical treatments such as Botox, it is important to
consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon prior to
undergoing any treatment. The experience and knowledge
of these qualified individuals can make a significant impact
on the results experienced by their patients. For more

CA SE OF THE MONTH
Facelift surgery is a powerful way to significantly
restore the aging face back to a more youthful
appearance. Facelift surgery often refers to any of a
variety of facial rejuvenating procedures which could
include midface lifting, lower face lifting, brow lifting,
neck lifting, eyelid lifting, and fat grafting. Every
patient is slightly different and may benefit from
slightly different combinations of the procedures
mentioned. In my practice, I consider a facelift to
include elevation of the midface, jowls, and neck. The
surgical procedure is an intensive one and typically
takes about 3-5 hours to complete. The scars for the
surgery are well hidden within the hairlines and
around the ear. Recovery from the procedure is very
well tolerated with bruising resolving in about 1-2
weeks. The final result, however, can take up to 3
months to be fully appreciated.
KM is a 57 year old female who was showing the typical
signs of facial aging with loss of midface volume, jowl
development, and increased neck skin laxity. She
underwent a complete facial rejuvenation process which
included complete face and neck lifting, lower lid
blepharoplasty, and endoscopic brow lift surgery. Her
results are dramatic and yet she does not appear to be
“operated” on. She has a natural restoration of her
midface volume, elimination of her jowls, and
tightening of the neck line. The lower lids no longer
make her appear fatigued and the forehead lift has reset
her brow into a natural and youthful position.
All my life I enjoyed being told that I looked
much younger than my age. After I turned 50,
however, that was no longer the case. In January
of this year I caught my image in a mirror and
didn't' recognize myself! I didn't look like "me"
anymore, and decided to make an appointment
with a plastic surgeon. Dr. Stoeckel's kindness
and gentleness, and personable yet professional
guidance, put me at ease and gave me the
confidence to move forward with a facelift and
lower lid blepharoplasty.
My surgery day went smoothly and Dr. Stoeckel
called me that evening to see how I was
doing. And the results were immediate!! I couldn't
stop looking at myself in the mirror! Even with the
mild bruising to my face and neck, I looked
fantastic. And now a few months later, my sisters
say I look like I am in my mid-thirties! The BEST
thing however, is that I still look like ME - just a lot
younger. Gone are the jowls and turkey neck and my look is natural and youthful. Combining
the face lift procedure with the lower lid
blepharoplasty gave me the optimal results that
turned the clock back and really rejuvenated my
appearance. I couldn't be happier with the results.

Patty’s Pick
FOR MEN
Happy Fall! This is my absolute favorite time of year. Beautiful colors, cool nights by the fire pit and
football! As I was considering my Patty’s Pick for October, it hit me - Microdermabrasion for men.
Surprisingly, microdermabrasion can work better on men than on women. Unlike women who use skincare
products from an early age and on a regular basis, men typically pay less
attention to their looks. Poor skin hygiene leads to a buildup of dead
cells on male skin, which, in turn, makes it look tired and dull. The
buildup promotes large pores and increased blackheads. The lack
of regular skin hygiene is also what makes men more prone to
premature aging and sun damage.
During the microdermabrasion process aluminum oxide crystals
are passed through a dual head handpiece. The handpiece works
by breaking up dead skin cells on one side and has a vacuuming
effect on the other, assisting to remove the dead cells and clean
out the pores as well. Microdermabrasion gently buffs away the
surface layer of the skin, refining its texture and stimulating the
production of new cells and collagen.

Microdermabra

FOR MEN
So guys, microdermabrasion is not just for women! It will leave your skin feeling clean, refreshed and free
of those annoying blackheads. The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes and costs $85 per treatment.
Best results are seen after a series of treatments, based upon the individual.
As always, I look forward to seeing you in the office soon!
