About Pakkhi Hegde
Pakkhi Hegde bagged the critic’s award for her very first
film ‘Bairi Piya’ in the year 2008. She has come a long way
since then. In a short span of four years she has already
established herself as top notch. Having consistently
delivered hits like ‘Prem ke rog bhail’, ‘Aakhri Raasta’,
‘Nirahua Rickshawala’ she won numerous accolades and
her audience’s hearts. In the past four years she has
played pivotal roles in over forty films, most of which have
been about women empowerment.
In 2008, she was awarded the Most Popular Actress award in ETV Bhojpuri Cinema
Samman Awards. 2009 saw her winning the prestigious Best Actress Award in 5th
Bhojpuri Film Awards for her role in the film Pariwaar. Pakkhi’s performance as an
actor is matched only by her performance as a stage performer. With numerous
dance performances including shows in Australia, Fiji and New Zealand, she has
established herself as an internationally popular Bhojpuri performer. Her troupe
consists of Bhojpuri superstar and co actor Dinesh Lal Yadav aka Nirahua and
famous Bhojpuri folk musicians. Her latest film ‘Woman from the east’ is a hard
hitting realistic film on human exploitation issues in the underbelly of rural India. It
is set to release in 2012.

Woman From the east
This was a bold film by the critically acclaimed director Jeet Matharu to capture the
harsh realities of rural India into celluloid. The film was screened at the Toronto
International Film Festival earlier this year and received a standing ovation from the
audience who were spell bound my the sheer imagery on the screen and Pakkhi’s
portrayal of strong woman. This was the first Hindi film made that was based on a
Bihari girl with the subject of betibechuva.

When Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan’s long time make up man Deepak
Sawant debuted as a director, he chose to cast Pakkhi Hegde opposite Dinesh Lal
Yadav. The film is going to release later this year and there is already a buzz in the
