Mostly under the influence of the great master of wind
writing, Richard Strauss, this program features soprano Amy
Waller singing his beloved Four Last Songs, instrumental
versions of Allerseelen and Zueignung, and the effervescent
Waltzes from the Rosenkavalier. The program is rounded
out with Eric Whitacre’s moving Cloudburst, Boris
Kozhevnikov Symphony No. 3: Slavyanskaya, and Bach/
Reed, Komm, süsser Tod.
This concert includes some memorable original music for
wind symphony and a beautiful transcription of one of
Mahler’s most beloved movements, Symphony no.3, mvt 1:
Mendelssohn, Overture for Band; Fisher Tull, Sketches on
a Tudor Psalm; Matthew Arnold, Prelude, Siciliano, and
Rondo, Guilmant, Morceau symphonique (trombone solo);
Canada’s Howard Cable, Ten Provinces March.
