wellington wind symphony wellington wind symphony The Wellington Wind Symphony is in its 36th season of outstanding, entertaining concerts. They offer varied programs of wonderful, familiar music as well as the best of wind repertoire that appeals to a wide audience. The Winds concerts are known for their informality and for the enjoyable commentary provided by the Music Director. Daniel Warren – Music Director* Michael Purves-Smith – Conductor Laureate The group has released a number of CDs and a DVD about the Wellington Wind Symphony featuring great music and interviews. In addition, they have created a YouTube channel presenting the finest of music for concert band, much of it written by Canadian composers. www.youtube.com/wellingtonwindsymphony “This group of friends makes inspired music together. It is a privilege to experience their performances.“ In addition to their annual series, they have performed with the Grand Philharmonic Choir, at MusicFest Canada in Toronto, at the Guelph Spring Festival, as co-host of the Music Is For Life Symposium, in workshops for students, and for the Canadian Music Educators’ Conference. music director Daniel Warren is entering his seventh season as Music director of the Wellington Wind Symphony. His recent conducting duties include Resident Conductor of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and Interim Artistic Advisor and conductor for Orchestra London Canada. He is in frequent demand as a guest conductor and Daniel Warren has done so across Canada with many orchestras Music Director including the Toronto Symphony, the National Arts Centre Orchestra and the Edmonton Symphony. The program is rounded out with Eric Whitacre’s moving Cloudburst, Boris Kozhevnikov Symphony No. 3: Slavyanskaya, and Bach/ Reed, Komm, süsser Tod. This concert includes some memorable original music for wind symphony and a beautiful transcription of one of Mahler’s most beloved movements, Symphony no.3, mvt 1: Mendelssohn, Overture for Band; Fisher Tull, Sketches on a Tudor Psalm; Matthew Arnold, Prelude, Siciliano, and Rondo, Guilmant, Morceau symphonique (trombone solo); Canada’s Howard Cable, Ten Provinces March. This is your chance to hear Music Director, Dan Warren as a cornet and trumpet star, along with principal sax, Danielle Beck, clarinet duo, Cathy Baer and Ginny Scarfino, and principal tuba, Allan Lee. The program will be filled out with memorable and popular music from an extensive library recently added to that of the Winds as a generous gift from the Kitchener Musical Society Band.
