This past year was a vivid example of our action-packed calendar, filled with monthly events including workshops, special events, supplier diversity trainings, and networking opportunities for our members. We had over 1,400 attendees at our programs throughout the year, and great discussions about how to build business. These pages highlight some of our most memorable moments. After the mixer, ABA friends, Board Directors, and ABA staff watched the play, Chinglish, and had a blast! ABA attended the Asian American and Pacific Islander Employee/Business Resource Group National Roundtable II at the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C. in December 2015. Community Partnerships continued on Page 7 2 | Asian Business Association Asian Business Association | 3 20 15 Event Highlights February Driving Success: Business Trends for 2015 In the heart of Koreatown at CGV Cinemas, guests gathered to learn from the expertiseand business trend insights of ABA Board Director, Jason Kim of Blank Rome LLP. After an engaging presentation, guests enjoyed snacks and refreshments while watching a riveting action movie. This event was hosted by Blank Rome LLP. March 17th Annual C.K. Tseng Golf Tournament Our signature tournament was held at the Friendly Hills Country Club in Whittier. Among our 140 guests were Laker Girls and Clippers Kia Fan Patrol who kept spirits high throughout the day! After a rigorous round of golf, Ono Hawaiian food delighted our guests. Everyone enjoyed fun raffle prizes and goodie bags secured by Innovate Marketing Group and TEN Advertising. June Women Business Pioneers Symposium - Executive Edition ABA members and friends joined us for the second annual Women Business Pioneers Symposium presented by U.S. Bank. Jill Dunk of Mio & Mama Mio Skincare, Betty Lo of Community Alliances and Consumer Engagement at Nielsen, Suyen E. Pell of Anahau Energy, and Melinda White, of the West Region of Frontier Communications shared their tips for success and their stories of building their careers! July Dynamic Downtown Development - Real Estate Forum Dynamic Downtown Development: Real Estate Forum was held at the Wilshire Country Club. Our panelists, Rishi Thakkar of AssetAvenue, Arty Maharajh of DTZ, Ryan Spruston of Gensler, and Linda Lau of Global Law Group discussed the changing landscape of Downtown LA and investment in LA projects and what role EB-5 plays. We were thrilled to have Wayne Ratkovich of The Ratkovich Company and TheBlocLA speak about the history of Downtown Los Angeles and gave us a virtual walk through the new exciting development in Downtown - TheBlocLA! April Enhancing Your Business Value Proposition Over 100 business owners attended an active seminar in partnership with Southern California Edison’s EDGE Program, “Enhancing Your Business Value Proposition.” Community members from the community joined us for first of two EDGE program workshops at Hilton Los Angeles/San Gabriel in San Gabriel. 4 | Asian Business Association May Business Coaching 101: What’s in Your Business Playbook? Overlooking the Kyoto Gardens, guests enjoyed an informative workshop held at the Doubletree by Hilton in Little Tokyo. Our three expert speakers from U.S. Bank, In-O-Matic, and The Walt Disney Company covered cash flow, elements of a business playbook, and essentials when working with corporations. August Effective Negotiations Held at the San Gabriel Hilton, an active workshop in partnership with Southern California Edison’s EDGE Program drew over 100 guests to learn negotiation skills in any situation. Experts Karla Salazar and Don Martinez of SOS Strategies shared their strategies for a successful negotiation and called uponguest volunteers to participate in useful role play exercises. Community Partnerships cont’d November Fall Supplier Diversity Event ABA members and friends gathered at the beautiful Herman Miller showroom to hear from suppliers and supplier diversity experts on working with corporations and to learn from the experts in small groups. Programs with the White House Initiative for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders December ABA Membership Appreciation Celebration ABA celebrated a successful 2015 year over delicious Thai food at Saladang Song in Pasadena hosted by Northrop Grumman. We had a delicious meal, honored the 2015 ABA Board of Directors, and welcomed incoming 2016 ABA Board Directors.
