DIAGNOSTIC WAX-UPS; MORE THAN JUST A PATIENT
EDUCATION AID! – BY DR. MARK T. MURPHY
Especially when there are irregularities in the arch from, the
wax-up can be used to make reduction matrices or guides that help
us objectively visualize that we have enough room for the restorative
material. This patient wanted the central brought back into line. We
did the wax-up, made a PVS matrix and then cut it so that we could see
into the preps and make sure there was enough reduction. They can
be used facially (as shown) or inciso-occlusally. Sometimes, if we don’t
do this, we get an unesthetic restoration.

Laboratories. He also serves on the Adjunct Faculty at the University of
Michigan School of Dentistry and as a Guest Presenter at Mercer Advisors,
and the Pankey Institute. He practices general dentistry on a limited basis
in Rochester, Michigan and lectures internationally on Leadership, Practice
Management, Communication, Case Acceptance, Planning, Occlusion, TMD
and Obstructive Sleep Apnea. Mark has been involved in Sleep Dentistry for
over 25 years and has trained with several of the leading sleep dentists and
