Earflaps With US 8 (5 mm) DPN, using CC3, Start approximately 11 (12, 12, 13) sts along from centre back, pick up 12(14,16,16) sts on 1st needle. Turn work and pick up 6(7,8,8) sts on 2nd needle. ( Pick up these stitches in the same loops that the first set of stitches were picked up from– this is a little tricky but the end result is worth it!) Pick up a further 6(7,8,8) sts on 3rd needle in the same way. Work 10(10,12,12) rounds in st‐st (knit every round‐the first couple of rounds will be a little tricky) Next round: Sl1, K1 psso. K to last 2 sts on 1st needle, K2Tog, Sl1, K1 psso, K to end of 2nd nee‐

Work as for Snowflake hat from **to**, *Finishing Pastaza Hats For the top Break off yarn leaving an 8” tail, thread thru remaining stitches leaving tail on the outside. Cut 6 24” lengths of yarn. Using base of tail wrap around center of the strands sev‐
eral times and then anchor firmly in place. Fold strands in half, you now have 12 strands. Di‐
vide into three and braid firmly until about 1” from the end. Knot and trim. For Earflaps Cut 6 36” lengths of yarn. Fold in half and with a crochet hook pull the 6 strands thru the tip of the earflap as if attaching fringe. You now have 12 strands. Divide into 3 and braid firmly until about 1” from the end. Knot and trim. Repeat for 2nd earflap. Weaving in ends and block.
