YOUNG BIRD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW AND SHIELD SELECTION
Please find below the results for both the Young Bird Selection and the Young Bird Shield.
United had an incredibly strong team covering all varieties and won the Shield by a very healthy
margin.
Congratulations to all club members who had birds in the team as this ultimately contributed to
Victoria again winning the Nationals this year.
SHIELD RESULTS –
Our club had an extremely strong win at the Young Bird Shield. United – 753 points, Melton – 592
points, Gippsland 549 points, Mountain District 486 points, Eastern District – 461 points Western
Suburbs – 440 points. Congratulations to the following members who won classes. A special
mention must go to Jeffrey Leong, who won 4 classes and Best in Show. What a fabulous effort!

NATIONAL RESULTS
Victoria were the winners again this year with a strong
win at the Australian National Budgerigar Championships
held in Mandurah, W.A.
It was a great weekend as always and full credit must go
to the Western Australian team & all their helpers for a
fabulously run event. Luke Fletcher again kept everyone up
to date with his live stream and it is great that those
unable to attend can see the scores as the day’s judging
progresses, as well as seeing the winning birds. Luke does
a wonderful job and we all appreciate the effort and dedication he puts in.
We wish to congratulate all Victorian’s who had birds in the team and to the following club
members for winning classes – Jeffrey Leong, Alan Baxter, David Charlton and Ray & German.

BUDGIE BASH
Just another reminder regarding the Budgie Bash Sale on Sunday 23rd August. This is open to club
members to make birds available to the public and United members as well. Please RSVP to Steve
Bradley, ph. 0417 300 667 or email [email protected], before the 20th July to advise if
you will be submitting birds. We need to know who is planning to attend and the number of birds they
will be submitting for the sale. There will be a charge to each vendor of $50 for staging hire to display
their birds. There is no limit on prices charged, this is up to the discretion of each individual vendor.
Any budgies are able to be sold from pet shop quality to exhibition quality, as long as all birds are
healthy. The selling of the birds is the vendor’s responsibility and each vendor will need to have their
own change available. Please bring along a fold up table if you are planning on selling birds.
TRAINING SESSION AND PIZZA
Don’t forget the training session on Tuesday 21st July, at 7.30pm, this is aimed at Beginner members.
The main emphasis will be on the pairing up of birds. You are welcome to bring birds along to get
advice on what the correct parings should be. This is also a social night and a celebration of United
winning the Young Bird Shield. Several National class winners will be present, so it gives all members
the opportunity to chat and pick up some tips. The club will be providing pizza for dinner, BYO cold
drinks. The following varieties will be presented and discussed – cinnamon, double factor spangle,
opaline and AOSV. Could you please email Eva and advise if you will be coming along, so as we can
have an idea of numbers attending–[email protected].

The next committee meeting will be held on Tuesday 7th July at the home of Alan Baxter.
