PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
by Robin Renfrow
Greetings Mid-Missouri AGA,
It is already time for my final President’s message. It has been an
honor to serve as your president for the 2013-2014 year. I have
enjoyed getting better acquainted with several of you and hope that we
have accomplished some good things. I want to take this time to thank
all the people that have served on the board with me and the countless
other people that have assisted the board with tasks over the years.
Your support and dedication was invaluable!
While many schoolchildren are enjoying their summer
break, accounting professionals never really take a break
from our continuing education. On that note, your new
board is working hard to set up next year’s schedule of
events and topics. However, we need your input. So
please contact a board member if there are speakers/topics that you are
interested in hearing.
I also want to take this opportunity to say thank you and good-bye to
Rosemarie Jeffries, Vickie Akin and Tammy Childress for their years
of service on the board.
Your insight and
contributions will be missed.
So, as I have passed the gavel to Amy Patel for 20142015, I wish her the very best of luck. She also has
an outstanding CEC and Chapter to work with. She’s already hard at
work getting ready for the new year. Our new officers are also gearing
up and excited about what lies ahead. Stay tuned! We have good
things ahead of us.
SAVE THE DATE!

event for the government accountability community for more than 60 years.
Reasons Why You Should Attend:

you key findings and educational experiences to augment your job knowledge and skills. The exhibit hall

profession.
Network and Connect
The most unquantifiable yet beneficial aspect of any training event is networking. AGA’s
PDT is the place to connect with a variety of government financial experts and industry
colleagues from around the nation facing the same or similar issues that you could exchange
and share “Aha!” ideas and moments with to bring back to your organization.
Zoom to www.agacgfm.org/PDT2014/Conference-Home.aspx for more information.
2014 Professional Development Training (PDT) Host Committee

Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Requirements
All active CGFMs are required to complete at least 80 hours of continuing professional education (CPE) every two
years in government financial management topics or related technical subjects. The 80 CPE hours must be completed
within the CGFM’s two-year CPE cycle. See Calendar of CPE cycles.
CGFMs do not need to submit supporting documentation of the CPE hours at the time of renewal. The payment itself
serves as the CGFM's affirmation of his or her compliance with the CPE requirements. CGFMs are required to maintain
supporting documentation on CPE hours earned for a minimum of three years and provide it to AGA upon request. This documentation may be
requested by AGA as part of the annual audit of a random sample of CGFMs.
Waivers or extensions on earning CPE hours are granted on an individual case basis. All requests for waivers must be sent in writing to the
AGA’s Office of Professional Certification no later than April 30 in the year following the end of the two-year CPE cycle.
The CPE requirements page contains detailed information on CGFM CPE requirements.

ETHICS:
Figuring Out the Right Thing to Do and Then Having What It Takes to Do It!
1- 2:50 p.m. | 2 CPEs Available
The skills that will be discussed in this web conference can help those in the government sector to
successfully navigate the often complex and challenging situations they face in their public service. The
discussion has been designed specifically for you with two objectives in mind: First, it will be a refresher in
the process of how to recognize when you are facing true ethical dilemmas, how to define the elements
required in analyzing those ethical dilemmas, and how to process the elements you need to consider in
resolving those dilemmas. Second, and just as critical to helping you to take action with confidence, the
presentation will go to the next step of figuring out how to take action on dilemmas, how to “do the right
thing,” when doing so presents risks or personal challenges, when doing the right thing isn't easy.
Led by Alan Goodman, a certified Master Trainer for the renowned Institute for Global Ethics,
participants will be able to follow the presentation with visual notes and will be able to submit questions
regarding the material for discussion. Alan Goodman has been a featured presenter at several AGA
events and has presented seminars for a wide variety of government audiences.
Learning Objectives: To learn techniques for making ethical judgments in a variety of workplace
situations.
