Celebrate Örebro 2010
Throughout the year 2010, there will be plenty of celebrations and festivities in Tiveden & Norra Vättern to honour
the anniversary of Örebro 2010.
Jean Baptiste Bernadotte, later Karl XIV Johan, was elected
heir to the throne in Sweden 200 years ago, and the election took place in this area.

During the year, several major events in the county will
have a touch of the anniversary Örebro 2010. Among other
things, French band will perform at the Jazz-festival in
Askersund, the chocolate festival “Chokladsalongen” will
have French chocolate and a parade will be arranged during
the French national holiday, Bastille Day. Look for this sign

From lake to forest
– like a fairytale…
Once upon a time, there was a wild forest where
towering trees and mighty boulders reflected in the
crystal clear water of the lakes, and where deep
caves whispered about mysterious events. People
made their way to experience the natural wealth
of nature – on foot and by boat – in a place they
thought did not exist. The forest stretched all the
way to a big, big lake where waves sometimes
reared up as high as at sea, and where shiny boats
and glittering fish criss-crossed the water between

the islands of the archipelago. In the small towns
and villages, people were strolling about the lively
harbour areas and on idyllic cobbled streets many on their way to or from the markets, others
simply enjoying the scent of sizzling food and the
enticing music. And those who had never been
there – the place where the forest meets the
archipelago and small town – never really knew
what they were missing…

A real wilderness archipelago
The northern parts of Lake Vättern´s archipelago
are both beautiful and unique, with rugged cliffs,
smooth granite rocks and windswept pine forests.

uninhabited – a genuine archipelago wilderness.
Tiveden´s deep wild forest
Deep rifts, gigantic rocks and a wild nature with
magical forest lakes, that is Tiveden and its national park. Don’t miss this total nature experience!

The Castle of Stjernsund is situated on a headland
in the northern part of Lake Vättern and said to be
one of the most beautiful castles in Sweden. Here can

The only (excavated) monastery of the Antonitorder in Sweden is situated in Ramundeboda. It
was in use 1475-1530, as a hospital monastery.
They gave their time to the sick and provided
shelter for pilgrims and travelers.

The Trad Jazz Festival kicks off on the weekend before Midsummer
each year, with all of Askersund swinging to the beat.
Come to Askersund in September, the home of Chokladsalongen,
the Chocolate Salon. A place to enjoy chocolate in all its forms,
shapes and flavours.
Great art experiences you will find in Norra Vätterns annual art-tour.
Art lovers will also enjoy “Konst i Ring”, an open-air exhibition in
Tived.
Every summer, Laxå motor stadium arranges various racing
competitions.
Beautiful handcraft, market fudge and ponybackriding are just a
few examples that can be enjoyed during the town’s open markets.
The Tourist Offices in Laxå and Askersund will guide you right.
Every Wednesday during the summertime there is mixed entertainment in Askersunds harbor. Among many other things one can
enjoy community singing and local talents.

Lazy days at the beach are just the thing in the summer! Our Tourist offices can give you tips of good
beaches in Vättern and many other nearby lakes.
Stora vargleden, Skagern-runt and Tivedsrundan
are some of the cycle routes available for a beautiful daytrip.
Horseback riding
Golfing
Today there are 170 kilmeters (106 miles) of bridal
paths in Tiveden, of course there are also pony
rides for the children. Contact the Tourist Offices
for more info.
Åmmeberg offers a great 18-hole golf course situated on the banks of lake Vättern. It boasts a beautiful
cafeteria, restaurant, and golf shop. Laxå offers a
9-hole golf course driving range and putting green.

Canoeing
Lake Vättern is a well known fishing paradise including plenty of crayfish. First-class fishing can
also be found in the lakes Unden and Skagern with
a high richness of species.
Rent a boat and experience the northern parts of
lake Vättern with its unique wilderness archipelago
or take a quiet canoe trip on Tiveden´s canoe route.

Get a strike at Laxå Bowling & Gym, or why not
enjoy a bowling lunch of good friends. For a little
higher tempo, come and take a look at cross,
enduro, rallycross and crosskart at Laxå Motor
club.
All our hiking trails can be enjoyed during spring,
summer and autumn. Adjust your choice to
weather and your mood. Hike the newly prepared
Bergslagsleden in Tiveden, or why not explore the
islands of the archipelago by foot.

Nature Reserves
The area of Tiveden & Norra Vättern is enriched with several nature reserves,
all with their own personal characteristics.
Fagertärn
Kopparbergs äng
Probably the county’s most visited nature reserve
in the county with thousands of visitors each year.
Habitat of the protected red water lilies. You will
also find tourist information and lovely coffee shop.
Small scenic reserve with great views over the lake
called Hjärtasjön. The reserve include pasture, hay
meadow and precious leaf forest.
Vargavidderna – Wolf Territory
Harge Uddar
The reserve consists of many small islands where
you can experience dramatic cliffs, beaches and
wind-swept pine forests. The high cliffs offer a
superb view over lake Vättern, it’s easy to get the
open sea feeling here!
Await the wolf. With a little luck you may hear one
here at the edge of the marshes. The nature reserve
is beautiful and you can see far and wide from the
observation tower. There are also windbreaks and
fireplaces.

In the northern parts of Lake Vättern you’ll find
a unique freshwater archipelago with sea feeling
in the middle of Sweden. By boat, canoe or kayak,
you can easily reach more then 50 islands in this
amazing nature reserve. Maybe you’ll find your

The wild landscape, the beautiful forest lakes, the
giant blocks of stone, a great view and the vast
beach at Vitsand makes the National park of
Tiveden one of the most remarkable in Sweden.

New projects come to fruition
The next decade will see a series of exciting developments,
following a period of important investment decisions. A
new pre-school will open this year and a new centre for
learning and culture will follow in 2011. We are investing
in children and young people, in enterprise, in the culture
and leisure sector, as well as in high-quality housing developments. At the moment, fiber optic network is being
installed in the homes of all villages with more than 200
inhabitants. With passion, courage and commitment we are
making Askersund an even better place to live and work.
