ENGINEERING BETTER GOLF
1. If the grip size is to remain the
same the existing grip size must be
accurately determined to properly
duplicate the size when installing
the new grip. The Universal Grip
Gauge (MAGG) shown works very
well and is the quickest method.
Slip a gauge opening over the
bottom of the grip. Slide the gauge
up the grip until it becomes snug
against the grip. Mark the spot
with your thumb.

2. Slip the gauge off the grip and
use the end of the gauge for the 2”
measurement. This gauge
measures the grip size at 2” from
the end of the grip. One of the
various grip gauge opening will
allow it to slide up the grip, but will
stop 2” from the top as shown in
this photo. The actual size of the
grip can be read at that opening.
Use This Gauge Opening
1/16" Oversize Men’s .960
1/16" Oversize Men’s .960
3. If the gauge opening stops below 4. If the gauge stops above the 2”
measurement, the grip is smaller
the 2” measurement, the grip is
larger than the designated opening. than the designated opening.
And The Measurement
From The Grip Cap Is:
23/16"
23/8"
Then The Grip Size Is:
/ " Oversize Men’s .990
1/8" Oversize Men’s 1.020
3 32
To Measure Grip Size Under
The Right Hand:
5. Place one of the three gauge
openings around the bottom of the
grip and slide the gauge as far up
the grip until it is snug. Do not
force it. Mark the location of the
gauge with your fingernail. Remove
the gauge and check to see if the
marked location is 5” down from
the grip cam, using the 5”
measurement on the gauge.
6. When a specific gauge opening
is positioned 5” from the grip cap
the correct size is read below it’s
opening. When measuring grip
sizes large than 1/32” oversize
men’s, use the .850 gauge opening
(5” from the end cap measures
+3/64”), or the .865 gauge opening
(5” from the end cap measures
+1/16”).
7. Do not slide the grip gauge over
the rib reminder portion of the grip
as this will give an improper
reading. Always slide the gauge
over the grip so the sides of a
particular opening are facing the
right and left side of the grip. (The
strip of tape represents the rib in
the grip).

To Measure Shaft Butt Size:
8. Slide a gauge opening over the
shaft butt to determine it’s size. If
the butt is too large to fit the .600
opening and too small to fit the .620
opening, the diameter of the shaft
butt is .610. If the shaft butt size is
determined in this manner the grip
size designation is noted from the
mouth of the grip, the installed grip
size can be predetermined to avoid
guessing.
