Duncan McTavish
7 year old Duncan McTavish came in as a stray to the Brooklyn CACC
shelter. Dirty and swollen from a complication from his neutering there,
Judi picked him up and he came to stay at our house until he was feeling
better. He was adopted by a single woman in Cherry Hill, NJ, who fell in
love with his quirky personality quickly. Unfortunately, she was diagnosed
with cancer just two weeks later and being concerned for his future, she
returned him to me to find him another home. Shortly afterwards, just the
perfect situation came up and he was adopted by 3 sisters living in White
Plains, NY. They also had a female mill rescue scottie and an older poodle
rescue who Duncan took to immediately. I hear Duncan takes turns
sleeping with each of the 3 sisters, and I'm sure he's added new life into
their quiet home. He's been through a rocky time in his short life, but we're
confident he's now one happy guy.
Duffy
8 year old Duffy came to rescue when his family decided that they felt bad
about him living outside in the cold winter weather. In fact, he'd been
living outside for 7 of his 8 years, banished there for nipping their one year
old son's hand at a birthday party when he was only 1. Jim and Linda
found him a delightful scottie, although not surprisingly unhousebroken,

who just wanted someone to love him. They groomed him and had him to
their vet and he was ready to go onto his new life. He was adopted by a
couple in Birdsboro, PA who also had several other rescues. Duffy got off
to a rocky start with their male lab, but the couple loved him so much
they spent the needed time to make it work out between them. Duffy now
spends his evenings watching tv with his dad on a chaise instead of out in
a dog house alone.
Sydney
8 year old Sydney's family decided to give her up as they were dealing
with a high risk pregnancy. She's the kind of scottie anyone would love to
have, and we were fortunate the owners decided to do the right thing and
get her to Marion and Fred instead of the alternatives. She was adopted
by a woman in Little Falls, NJ who had adopted 2 scottie brothers from us
years ago. One had recently died, leaving the other 14 year old lonely.
The two of them are getting along well and happy to have each other's
company.
Inkie & Scotch
On October 16, 2004, club member Marge Rosa was approached at the
South Jersey Kennel Club show by a gentleman who asked if she knew
someone in Scottie Rescue. He related that he had two Scotties and some
serious medical problems and that he could no longer care for his boys.

The following day, we made contact with the gentleman who, it turns out,
is facing life-threatening surgery and has concerns that he won't survive.
Wanting to ensure that his two four-year-old boys would continue to be
well cared for and unsure of his fate, he chose to place his dogs through
Rescue.
Inkie (l.) & Scotch (r.) are both four years old. Inkie was purchased from a
pet store as a pup, while Scotch arrived about a year ago after being
picked up running the streets as a stray. Scotch was difficult, at first, and
wouldn't allow anyone to touch him. After three months, the owner was
about to give up, when Scotch suddenly changed his attitude and
demeanor. Since then, Scotch grew to trust his owner and became very
close to his "brother", Inkie.
A review of pending applicants resulted in a good match with a lady named
Cindy in Philadelphia. Erica contacted her and she was sold almost
immediately on adopting Inkie. After hearing how these dogs came to be
with Rescue, she decided she would adopt both boys and not add to their
trauma by splitting them up.
She came to visit a week after they arrived and it was love at first sight
for the new "Mom" and the boys. Inkie and Scotch leaped into her lap and
bestowed Scottie kisses, as only a Scottie can do. Since "Mom" had a
scheduled trip the following week, the boys remained with us at Camp
Cook until October 30, when they left to join their "Mom" in their new
home.
We wish them long, happy lives together!
Lucy and Liam
Lucy (l.) and Liam (r.) were probably sister and brother who came into the
Brookyn CACC shelter along with several other dogs who were removed
from an apartment by animal control. Their owner had been dead a month
before it was discovered by a neighbor. All the dogs were unsocialized,
thin and ungroomed. Lucy and Liam were estimated to be between 2-4 or

younger. Lucy had recently given birth to a litter of puppies. One pup was
found dead and another taken to another rescue group in Brooklyn, who
we expect will be keeping her themselves. Athough they are frightened
and shy, and need to learn many things, both are sweet and gentle. Lucy
was adopted by one of our own rescue helpers and her husband in
Brooklyn and is doing very well. After a few weeks fostering at Judi's
house, where she helped bring him out of his shell, Liam was adopted by
two men in Northport, NY who had adopted from us before and also have 2
sweet female cairn rescues. Both are getting lots of love and attention
and we expect will have wonderful futures!
Eddie
5 year old Eddie came in to Judi from a home in NY after having bitten a
child running through his yard. His family loved him, but they were
concerned about the legal ramifications of this happening again. Eddie
came to stay with us in NJ and he was so easy to fall in love with certainly one of our favorite rescues that had to be pried away from us!
We placed Eddie in a home where he had such a severe allergic reaction to
the environment, we needed to take him back. After looking further into
his background, we found he did have a history of severe allergies that
appeared to be calm when we got him. After some medication and a period
of time to get him stabilized, Eddie was placed with a couple in Woodbury,
CT who had experience with allergies and a very hypoallergenic home. He's
doing really well there with only minimal special care and enjoying a normal
life. He's now living with no human children, but does have a scottie sister
and brother to play with throughout their rambling home.

Beau
Beau was removed from the home of an older woman in PA who had too
many pets to handle. He was not in good condition upon coming to Jim &
Linda, having a severe and contagious ear infection and lyme disease.
After spending some weeks with them and well on his way to good health,
Beau was placed with a retired doctor and his wife in Mountainside, NJ
who had recently lost their elderly scottie. Instead of neglect, Beau is now
enjoying lots of undivided attention and a huge fenced yard with lots of
squirrels to chase.

Chester
14 year old Chester's elderly owner in New Rochelle, NY, went into a crisis
center and then a nursing home, leaving him alone in an apartment with no
food or water for days during our worst heat wave this summer. A
concerned neighbor rescued him from this situation, but because he wasn't
legally removed, we couldn't take him directly and he had to go to the
local shelter. We worked with the shelter for weeks until we were finally
able to get a legal release for him, so we could place him. He's now living
in Cape Cod with friends of STCGNY members who we've known for years,
and who own a B&B, so they spend a lot of time at home with the
scotties. They have a soft spot in their hearts for the older ones, like we
do, although Chester acts far from old!
Alistair
12 year old Alistair was dropped off at the Bergen County (NJ) Animal
Shelter and the rescue coordinator called us right away. His owner said

she returned to work fulltime and didn't have time for him and that he'd
peed on her rug while she was away. Well, he hasn't had one accident in
our home in the month he's been here. A sweet and gentle elder scot, he's
just happy to have company and sit by you. After our medical screening, it
was discovered that Alistair is in the final stage of liver disease and has a
large mass on his liver and one his adrenal gland, so he was not placeable.
He's staying here with the other Cerny scots until it's his time, and we're
happy to have him as part of our family.
Popcorn
Popcorn is a 6-7 year old wheaten male. His hair was all filthy, matted,
dredlocks and his eyes were sealed closed from a bad eye infection that
stemmed from a severe mouth infection that had made it's way up through
his sinuses. The shelter hacked away at his mats with a clipper, leaving his
coat a mess, his face half shaved and an eyelid nicked. After dental
surgery and almost a month of antibiotics, eye medication, and a lot of
rest, Popcorn's happy personality began to emerge. While he still has a
long way to go on his coat and remains on medication for the wound under
his eye and the area where his sinus tissue was eaten away by the
infection, but he seems to be healing well and we expect him to make a
full recovery. Popcorn was just placed with a couple in Rhode Island who
adopted 2 scotties from STCGNY rescue in the past. He took to them their
other wheaten scottie right away and really turned on the charm. We
know he'll have a wonderful life with them! Special thanks to Judi who
fostered him and really nursed him back to health with a lot of TLC.

Prinny
6 year old Prinny was found tied to a tree in a NYC borough park and
brought to the pound by animal control. Handsome and friendly, Judi and I
had to fight the shelter management to get him into the rescue program,
as they prefer to keep the more adoptable ones. We wanted to make sure
this time he got a good home with scottie experienced people. He's
currently recovering from a problem with a jaw muscle, but has been
placed. His new mom is an antique art dealer in Philadelphia and Prinny has
already attended his first art show with her. We are sure he will be one
spoiled scottie with much appreciation for the arts.
Katie
14 year old Katie's father died after a prolonged illness, during which she
was his constant companion. Shortly after his death, we were contacted
by his wife who decided that her work schedule didn't allow enough time
for Katie and she wanted us to rehome her. Jim contacted STCGNY
members Marlene and Charlie Hoyler to transport and foster Katie, but it
appears she has found her new forever home with them! We don't know
how much time she has left, but we can be assured that all of it will be
quality time with the Hoylers. Thanks to them once again for coming to
the aide of our elder or sick rescues.

Happy Endings - 2005 Q3
Muffy
5 year old Muffy was turned into rescue because her owners felt bad that
they didn't have enough time to spend with her. Very sweet, friendly and
shy, she was an easy little girl to love. She was adopted by a single
woman in Cochranville, PA (a past adopter) who works part time at
Longwood Gardens and has a lot more time to devote to Muffy. Muffy also
has a cat as her new sister and companion. She was in this year's STCA
rescue parade at Lulu Temple.
Pytouko
Pytouko, a sweet and gentle 2 year old black male scottie was turned in
by his 18 year old owner when he was off on his way to college. He had
obviously been well loved, but not well cared for. After he stayed at Judi's
in foster for several weeks on a quality diet, and was groomed by Nancy
Walthers, he was looking and feeling a lot better. He was adopted to a
family in Kerhonkson, NY, and now has an older black lab brother and some
teenagers to play with.

Duffy/Bubba
Duffy/Bubba is a 5 year old handsome wheaten scottie, who was turned in
for not being a boxer (yes, it's true). The family had taken him from a
neighbor who no longer wanted him a year ago, when their boxer died.
Even though he was perfectly behaved, healthy and lovely, the family
really wanted another boxer. Fortunately, he will now spend the rest of his
life with someone who appreciates his wheaten scottiness. He now has a
new mom and dad and a wheaten scottie sister to play with in his new
home in Milllington, NJ. Special thanks to Nancy Walthers for the great
haircut before he left rescue.
Nessie and Mensch
7 year old Nessie and 10 year old Mensch came from the same breeder in
NY. A few years after a divorce, their mom in NYC had some medical issues
which made it difficult for her to walk the dogs, so she contacted us to
rehome them together. We were pleased to be able to find them a lovely
mother and daughter living together in Audubon, PA. who were excited to
add them to their family, which included another older female scottie and a
young westie. Nessie and Mensch have wonderful, endearing personalities
and are a great addition for these scottie lovers.

Kerry
5 year old Kerry had a very rough start to her life. Being unwanted by her
mom, she was taken to her father's warehouse, where she spent quite
some time, we believe, with guard dogs. She was finally turned into
rescue, but came in with a serious fear of other dogs. She was fortunate
enough to be fostered by an older couple who took excellent care of her
and restored her mental and physical health. She was recently adopted to
a family in Newark, DE. who also have an adopted daughter and no other
pets. Kerry is already making great progress in getting over her fear of
other dogs since she's been with them, and is enjoying her new life.
Scottie
Scottie, is a 4-5 year old sweet male scottie who was taken in by a
relative when one of his elderly owners died and the other went into a
nursing home. Although he wanted to keep his aunt and uncle's dog, his
own dog was attacking Scottie, so he needed to get out of there right
away. He was fostered with Jim and Linda and then adopted by a retired
professor, living in Vineland, NJ, who had recently lost his last scottie to
lymphoma. He was very lonely without his scottie companion and I'm
confident Scottie is now being very spoiled.

Buster
Buster, a boisterous 7 month old male scottie pup, was turned in by his 21
year old owner when he was transferred to North Carolina for work. He
was fostered by club members, the Heitz's, who spent a lot of time trying
to wear out his boundless energy. He was groomed by Lisa Cerone and
was then adopted by a couple who adopted Kirby from us last year. Buster
is now living in Sinking Springs, PA with his new scottie brother and sister
and learning housebreaking skills.
Cydney
Cydney, a 2 year old black scottie, had one of his front legs amputated
after being crushed in a car accident. His owners dumped him at a PA
shelter with the staples still in his chest after the surgery. He was picked
up by Animal Alliance, a private rescue group in NJ, who contacted us to
take him. After shaving his dredlocks and completing his medical care,
Cydney was adopted to a family in Homer, NY who also have a beagle and
a cat rescue. We will never forget Cydney's amazing attitude and ability to
get around and his cheerful disposition. He is truly a 'special' scottie.

Lilly
Lilly was just under a year old, an impulse buy for the owner's son, but he
was unable to take proper care of her and the other family dog and she
didn't get along. She was so full of energy, she was probably too much for
the older dog. She was fostered with Jim and Linda, and adopted from
there to a couple in Linwood, NJ who had adopted a pair of scotties from
us years ago. Their female scottie had recently died from lymphoma, and
the male was lonely. We're sure Lilly's keeping him so busy that he doesn't
have time to be sad right now.

Cami
Cami, a 5 year old female scottie, was ematiated and has significant
hairloss, so is being fostered for rehab with club members, Marlene and
Charlie Hoyler, who have extensive experience with terrier skin conditions.
We are hoping to get her health stabilized and improved so she can go to
her forever home in the future. She's a very sweet and friendly dog and
gets along with everyone and other dogs.

Happy Endings - 2005 Q4
Kiltie
Kiltie is a retired non-producing brood bitch from a breeding kennel. At only
1 and 1/2 years old, she'd already been passed to 2 kennels. In only 3
weeks in foster, she went from a withdrawn, frightened, unsocialized dog
to a housebroken, leash trained, affectionnate girl who loves attention.
She now sleeps in bed with her new mom and dad and scottie brother in
Pittsfield, Mass. and is enjoying exploring the world around her.
Professor MacTavish
Marge Rosa was contacted by someone who knew someone who needed
to rehome an 18 month old scottie. The owner had died and the son was
unable to keep the house. His family took him in, but that courtesy didn't
extend to the family pets. They remained in the original home with the
utilities turned off in December, cared for twice a day by the owner's son.
The professor was not in good condition upon arrival. His neck was
infected by a metal collar and he was soaked in urine, thin, hair all matted,
and we feel he'd been neglected for some time. In a transport relay from
Marge to the Hoylers to the Cooks, he was groomed both by Marge and
Linda Cook to get him looking better. He did a lot of healing and some work

on his housebreaking skills while with Jim & Linda and got lots of attention.
He was soon placed with 2 men in Philadelphia's historic area, where he's
very much the center of their lives.
Shammy
2 year old Shammy was picked up as a stray in Brooklyn by animal control.
Not off to a good start there, he was not rated well on his temperment
test. Not one to give up easily, Judi Dahl drove down from Saugerties to
Brooklyn to evaluate Shammy for herself and brought him home. After a
few weeks of training, Shammy soon became one of Judi's favorites. It
was hard to let him go to his new home in Northport, NY. His new mom is a
display designer for Macy's department store. Shammy now spends a lot of
time snuggling with his new mom and his new westie brother.
Crumpet & Tweed
Crumpet & Tweed were also retired breeding sisters from the same kennel
as Kiltie came from. Just under 4 years old, they were sweet but totally
unsocialized with people. As they had never been apart from each other,
we took the extra time to place them together with a retired couple in
Lavalette, NJ with a lot of scottie experience. Crumpet is coming along
really nicely, but Tweed is still experiencing adjustment fears. Time,
patience and love will continue to help her along. We are continuing to
advise and support them through this process.

Dalton
18 month old Dalton was picked up as a stray and brought to the
Lackawanna County Shelter in Pa. Not having had much luck permanently
placing terriers, they contacted us to help place him. Marge Rosa went to
the shelter to groom him and make him more adoptable, as well as
evaluate him. He was a typical, untrained, enthusiastic scottie pup, but
must have been too much for his original owners. He was placed with a
single woman in Newport, PA who works from home and has lots of time
and scottie experience to work with him. She had recently lost her scottie
of 14 years and was very anxious for another scottie companion. She
really enjoy's Dalton's company and he goes everywhere with her
Milhouse
We had been in touch with Milhouse's family for several months before he
was turned over to rescue, as they asked for advice in helping to keep
him. Just under 3, he started experiencing severe skin issues and hair loss
the last year. They'd brought him to 2 vets and there was no
improvement. I suggested a diet change and it did help, but in the end
http://www.stcgny.org/he0504.html

they felt they didn't have the time or the money to give him medicated
baths that he needed. When we received him, he was missing a good
portion of his hair, his skin was burgundy red and hot to the touch, ears
infected and skin peeling off everywhere. We took him directly to a
veterinary dermatologist and she diagnosed him with seborrhea and gave
us a strict protocol of medication and baths to follow. Within 3 weeks at
Judi's house, Milhouse's hair was growing back in and his skin was no
longer bright red or hot. Within 2 months, you could not tell that he was a
special needs dog. Milhouse was moved to a new volunteer foster home
where the foster parents fell in love with him and adopted him. He now
only needs maintenance of a medicated bath per week, which is very
manageable indeed! He's a wonderful little guy, and everyone who meets
him is touched by his great personality!
Mack
Mack was also only a year old when he was turned into the Trenton
shelter by his second family. He was very happy, affectionnate, and
energetic and probably too much for the young children in the home. Jim &
Linda retrieved him, had him to the vet and groomed him and spent time
training and evaluating him. We placed him with someone who forgot to
tell us that although he had no children, he babysat for his young neice
daily, so we had to take him back again. He was subsequently placed with
a couple in New Hope, PA who also had a female scottie. They've spent a
lot of time giving Mack all the love he needs and taking him to training
classes. He's adjusted perfectly to his new family and is a happy guy. We
get many updates on his progress and they are very happy to have him!!
Mack loves to entertain everyone who comes to visit, and looks after his
new sister who has been experiencing some medical problems.

Bradley
8 Year old Bradley's mom died young of cancer, leaving his dad unable to
care for their 10 dogs. We took Bradley and arranged for the yorkies,
westies and schnauzer to go to our rescue colleagues in those breeds.
Bradley had a matt so large on his head, that he wasn't able to close his
eyelids. We don't know how long he'd been that way. Judi Dahl fostered
Bradley, cut out his matts and treated a badly infected hematoma in one
ear that had become krinkled. Bradley is a gentle soul that gets along with
everybody. He came to our grooming seminar where Marge Rosa completed
his grooming. He was adopted to a retired teacher in Mt Tabor, NJ who
also has a female wirehaired doxie and a female maltese rescue. Everyone
gets along famously and they all pile up to sleep on mom in the bed every
night!
Angus
A 1 year old energetic scottie pup, Angus was picked up as a stray by the

Gloucester County Animal Shelter, who contacted Susan Finn. The Finn's
fostered him, took him to the vet and groomed him, so he'd be ready to
adopt. Shortly afterwards, we sent down a semi-retired biology professor
from Staten Island to adopt him. Angus' energy is keeping his new dad on
his toes, but that's exactly what he was looking for!!
Duffy
An elderly couple purchased a scottie puppy to help ease the pain of
losing their older scottie. Within a few weeks they realized they didn't
have the energy to keep up with a puppy's needs. Duffy came into rescue
and began exhibiting symptoms of CMO within a few days, about the right
age for it. Foster parents, Nan & Don Barcan began treating him with a
mild anti-inflammatory until he outgrows this active stage in another 6
months, which seemed to do the trick. He was adopted to a family in
Downingtown, PA with 2 children and another dog and is doing wonderfully!
Liam
You may remember Liam, we got him after a police seizure of many terriers
from a NYC apartment when the owner died. Very unsocialized and

traumatized, Judi worked with him for a long time to get him ready to go
forth into the world. His last placement, although they made great
progress with him, didn't ultimately work out. His new owners had a lot of
company for the holidays and with all the excitement, people, and other
dogs, he became traumatized again and fearful of the dogs and hid under
the bed. Hearing this, Judi was there in a flash to retrieve Liam. Within a
few hours of returning to Judi's house, he was his old happy self again and
happy to see all his old pals. We placed him a few weeks later with two
women in Queens who had recently lost their scottie to cancer and had no
other dogs. They are also building a new home in upstate NY close enough
for Judi to visit. All is going perfectly and they simply love him. We hope
this is the last stop for dear Liam.
Wheatley
Rescued from a breeding kennel, Wheatley, a very shy, 3 year old,
wheaten scottie quickly learned housebreaking skills and leash walking in
the Barcan's care. She had always chewed her feet to comfort herself to
the point where her legs were stained from saliva. This habit stopped
within a short time with love and things to keep her busy. Wheatley was
adopted to a family in Darien, CT with 2 teenage children, a female scottie
and a female yorkie, and is continuing to learn and evolve. We miss her!!

Raven
A sweet, shy 3-4 year old black scottie, Raven was attacked by another
scottie at her kennel home, injuring both ears and causing them to fall
over. As with all the other breeding kennel girls we took into rescue, she
needed some time to learn how to live in a house, get over her fears,
housebreaking skills and leash training. The Hoylers worked with her for
several weeks to give her these skills and she was a fast learner. She was
subsequently adopted by a single woman in Silver Springs, MD who is in
the process of moving to a home in Cape Cod. Retiring soon, she will be
able to spend the majority of her time with Raven, who she adores
Plum
A 4 year old, beautiful, black scottie, Plum was so scared that she needed
to be carried everywhere when we got her. In time, she became very
comfortable with our dogs, who helped teach her that she'd be OK. When
she was ready to move onto her forever home, she was adopted to a
single woman in Cape Cod, with another female scottie, and who'd
adopted from us before. The 2 girls are tightly bonded already and love to
walk on the beach together. When on the beach, Plum walks with her
head and tail up and is really learning to enjoy life!

Jersey
When his owners decided to move to NYC, they knew 9 year old Jersey
wouldn't be able to make the adjustment to city life and contacted us for
placement. He did very well in foster at Judi Dahl's house with her other
dogs and as an indoor dog. What a winning personality! We arranged a 5
person transport of past adopters and friends of scottie rescue to get
Jersey to his new perfect home in Ontario, CA. They love Jersey and he's
really enjoying all the attention and exploring all over the house and
garden. His new mom teaches yoga classes from home and her clients
bring Jersey toys and treats, so he can't wait for visitors to arrive!!

Max
A friendly, 3 year old scottie/cairn mix was turned in by his owner who
didn't have time for him. This was also his second home, as her sister had
originally adopted him from a shelter and given him away to her. Unphased,
Max enjoyed everyone's attention and was easy to place. He was adopted
by a couple in Carmel, NY who had adopted from us before (my first
rescue in the club). They'd recently lost that scottie to bladder cancer at
almost 15. Max is enjoying having his mom at home and lots of land to run
around instead of being confined all day!

Travis
Travis was only 6 years old when his owner went into a nursing home. The
owner's daughters tearfully contacted us to take him into rescue and
locate a new home for him.Unsure whether or not their father would be
able to recover and come home, we went back and forth for about a
month until it was finally decided that this would be a permanent situation.
Travis was boarded during this time. A very handsome, gentle giant, Travis
is as sweet and loving as they come. We placed him in a lovely home with
a huge fenced yard in the Morristown, NJ area. Travis enjoys surverying
his new property with his Airedale sister. His new mom and dad are very
happy to have a scottie in the house again. They shared the story of his
first night in his new home. He was babygated into the kitchen/den area
and they went upstairs to bed. In the middle of the night, his new mom
awoke to find Travis next to her bed staring at her. He'd quietly moved the
gate, took a tour of the house, and decided to take a closer look at her. I
believe he decided that night that he would be happy there.
Romeo/Buddy
Romeo was only 5 when his parents brought him to their local shelter for
scaring their young daughter. A very large scottie (36 pounds), Romeo
could be intimidating. The shelter contacted us and asked if we could take

him - Judi Dahl and I went down the next day. Judi fostered and evaluated
him until we found the right home for him. A scottie experienced couple in
Hillsboro, NJ had emailed us regularly since their scottie had died,
desperately looking for another older male. They are very happy with
Romeo, now Buddy! He loves to watch tv in the den with his dad every
night after dinner.
Sarah/Saffron
We were contacted by a caring hospice worker in NY who was frantically
trying to save an older scottie. Her owner had died the night before and
the woman who was caring for her while he was alive, made an
appointment to have her euthanized the following morning. The hospice
worker convinced her to give a little extra time to find an alternative.
Once we made contact, Judi raced over to get her and transferred her to
me, just in time. Sarah is a sweet, 13 year old girl in surprisingly good
health. Once we got a pound of hair off her, she was very pretty indeed!
Due to all her recent trauma, we had to try very hard to get her to eat
anything. We tried everything! Richard finally had success hand feeding
her BBQ'd chicken burgers. Once she settled in, we identified the most
wonderful family for her in Levittown, NY. We made the long drive out
there in the most horrible rainstorm, carrying her into the house like a
torpedo to avoid soaking her. She was introduced to each of her new
sisters (a scottie and 2 schnoodles), one at a time, and everyone got
along fine from the start. Since all their girls are named after spices, Sarah
was renamed Saffron. She's doing wonderfully in her new home and has
adjusted extremely well. We all understand that she's an older girl, but are
hoping she'll make it a long time to come now that she's found love again.
We really appreciate adopters like these!!!

Saydie
3 year old Saydie's mom contacted me after she'd given up trying to cure
her severe skin problems. She'd taken her to several vets and could not
relieve her suffering. She also had a sick baby and did not have sufficient
time or money to continue trying. Jeanne Lishia from DC scottie rescue
and I shared Saydie in trying to resolved her medical issues. We spent
months working on her treatment and it turned out to be a combination of
problems. Whether it was actually mange, allergies, hormones, infection
(the vets disagreed), by the time she was treated for all and spayed, her
hair began to grow back and her itching and biting finally ceased. She is
now living with 2 ladies in MD who've adopted from scottie rescue before.
She's doing well with her new scottie sister and well loved by her new
moms. It was a long road and she was the most expensive rescue we've
ever had, but thankfully it appears her bad days are behind her. We are
fortunate that Jeanne Lishia was able and willing to share Saydie's care
and costs with us to make a happy ending for her.
Aladdin
While sitting at my desk at work, I got a call from a shelter in mid PA
about a 9 year old scottie who had been dropped there by his owner for

having accidents in the house. Although he was far away, I was assured
he was a wonderful boy and should be helped. Again, Jeanne Lishia from
DC scottie rescue worked with us and the shelter to get this boy
tranported into rescue. We combined efforts to get his vet care done and
his temperament evaluated. He needed some growths removed and we
held our breath while waiting for the biopsy results to come back OK.
Aladdin is a sweet and friendly older dog and everyone who meets him is
instantly smitten. He's a great ambassador for the breed and for scottie
rescue. He is now in his new home with his new mom in Delaware who
works for Dupont in the same datacenter that I support remotely. Small
world! She's very happy to have him complete her family! We thank Jeanne
once again for sending the magic carpet that brought Aladdin from the
shelter into rescue and hope he makes it many more years with his new
mom.
Stuart
16 Month old Stuart was just too much for his family to handle. A little
concerned about his temperament from what we were told by the owner,
Jim & Linda took him into foster to evaluate him and make sure he was OK
to place. Convinced that he was just a high energy boy who needed some
training, we looked through our applications for someone who was home a
lot to give him the attention he previously lacked and the energy to keep
up with him. We found a couple who were retired gym teachers in Pompton
Lakes, NJ, with a lovely home on the lake and plenty of places for him to
walk and run. We are sure Stuart will be very happy there and know his
new parents are happy to have him!

Morgan
7 year old Morgan was abandoned by her owner, a man who had some
mental problems. His mother contacted scottie rescue to try to help her as
she could not take in another dog herself. Jim & Linda picked her up,
groomed her beautifully and took care of her while she underwent a series
of procedures. One procedure was to remove some growths and one
turned out to be cancerous. We are hoping the Cook's great vet, Dr.
Scott, was able to get all of it. So far, the indications are very good.
Morgan was adopted by an older woman in Cape May, NJ who has adopted
from us before. She gets along well with her new scottie brother and is
well loved at last!!
Monroe
Jim was contacted by a dog trainer who had been hired by a family who
wanted him to give them back their dog when he was perfect. It turned

out that 1 year old Monroe spent almost his entire life in a crate in order
to get to that point. Jim & Linda brought him home and found him to be a
delightful and typical scottie with no particular issues. He was shortly
placed in Hammonton, NJ with a couple who had been on our waiting list
for some time after the loss of their last scottie. We are sure they will be
very happy together!!
Nessie and Mensch
You may remember 7 year old Nessie and 10 year old Mensch were
rehomed in Audubon, PA only half a year ago. Unfortunately, their new
mom's job change made it difficult to be home enough to care for them
properly, so she contacted us again to take them back. Now 8 & 11, they
were still as lovely and sweet as I remembered them and amazingly
flexible. We rehomed them with a nice family in Pompton Plains, NJ with 2
sons and a 13 year old St. Bernard rescue. It took them only a few days
to make themselves right at home and get into their new routine. Their
new mom teaches half days, so she's home a lot more with them. We are
confident that this will be their last move!!

Matilda
One of our local STCA breeders had a litter of puppies and discovered that
2 of them had scottie cramp. Knowing that we do a thorough screening of
our adoptive homes and are familiar with cramp, he asked us to find good
pet homes for them. The little girl, now named Matilda, was placed with a
couple who own a gorgeous Bed & Breakfast in Vermont. They also have a
male westie and their cairn had recently passed away. They were very
taken with the little scottie and their westie was happy to have terrier
company again. Matilda now has a beautiful place to run and play and
greets all the visitors.
Laddie
Laddie, the brother of Matilda, the other pup we placed last month with
cramp, moved in with Nan & Don Barcan until we could locate just the
right home for him. Although he had a great time there, he did finally move
onto his new home in Warwick, NY. He has a wheaten scottie puppy
brother named Barley who he spends most of the day wrestling with. His
new Mom is a retired preschool teacher, which has prepared her for the
job refereeing these active boys while Dad is at work. These empty
nesters are happy to have the sound of little feet running around the
house and yard again. We all miss the charms of little Laddie, but wish him

all the best in his new life!
Eleanor
Eleanor Roosevelt, an 8 year old black scottie came in from a home in
Delaware. Her owner had 3 female scotties, Eleanor Roosevelt, Martha
Stewart, and Hillary Clinton. She was moving to a condo and could only
take one, decided on Hillary, so asked us to take Eleanor and Martha, who
were sisters. Before we could pick them up, Martha died suddenly, we
don't know why, as no vet care had been provided to the girls. We were
able to take Eleanor and she came into foster with Jim and Linda. Eleanor
is a lovely and friendly scottie, who's happy for the attention and loves
belly rubs. After all her vet care was done, she was adopted to a couple in
Boston, who live on the same street as a couple we adopted to a few
years ago, right by the Boston Commons in Back Bay. She immediately fit
right in and is enjoying her new and improved location. I know she'll have a
wonderful life there.

called Marion to say they had a scottie, we contacted them to get some
pictures and after verifying that he was a scottie or close enough, we
asked the Hoylers to pick him up. Naming him Johnny, they took care of
him overnight and were able to bathe him and remove his tangles. We
arranged with Marion's vet to board him over the holiday and neuter him,
he also had some severe digestive issues going on and it took a while to
stabilize him. I decided to give him a scottish name and called him Angus.
After all the vet work was done, I went to pick him up and found a scottie
on schnauzer legs and with a docked tail. Hmmm. Still, he was cute and
the sweetest guy, and we loved him and fostered him for a month until the
right home was found. I decided that if he was a black schnauzer, he
should have a German name and called him Ludwig (Luddi). During this
time, he put on 6 pounds and had a lovely grooming from Kathleen Zetcher
to make him look his best. This was a real team effort. Whatever he really
is (we thought he was a pet store scottie, and schnauzer rescue thought
he was a pet store black schnauzer, but he's probably a mix of the two)
he was placed with a male couple in Princeton, NJ who adore him and he's
doing great. Everyone who met Luddi really fell for him, he seemed to have
a magical effect on people and we hope he will lead a charmed life from
now on.
Ty
A one year old black scottie named Tiny came into the RBARI shelter in
Oakland, NJ, and they contacted me to help them find him a home. He was
a nice dog, but a little wild, his owners said they worked and had a young
child and didn't have any time for him, so he stayed crated a lot and
wasn't housebreaking well. We discussed Tiny with a longtime applicant
who lived close to the shelter, an accountant with 2 other scotties, and
he went right down and adopted Tiny. Now, named Ty, he's doing
wonderfully well and assimilating into the small pack. There are no reported
problems, all he needed was a good home with someone who knew
scotties!

Charlie & Hamish
These 1 year old, 30 pound, scottie brothers from Ambler, PA needed to
be rehomed because their owners were working too many hours and felt
bad that they were alone and crated most of the day. Marion spend a
good deal of time evaluating them in order to know what would be the
ideal situation for them. We were flooded with calls and emails once we
posted them to our website, but settled on a couple in Lock Haven, PA,
who had scottie experience and were very lonely after their last scottie
died of lymphoma. We interviewed many people, but found they were the
best match for the boys. They are doing really well in their new home and
are very much loved. At last report, they were making their way through
the stuffed teddy bear collection and take up the whole bed when sleeping
with their new parents. But, nobody's complaining!
Melody
A lovely 4+ year old Scottie girl, Melody's family just didn't have the time
for her. She was also categorized as an escape artist and they were
worried she'd get away. Jim & Linda fostered Melody and worked her into
their pack, until the right home came along for her. Jim's evaluation 'Clearly, she was named for the deep, loud, melodious sound she makes
whenever she is outside the company of a human!', had us on the lookout

for someone who could be with her all the time and had plenty of room
between their neighbors. A retired couple (screened and past adopters of
ours) in Lebanon, CT contacted me, to let me know that their last Scottie
had died, and they wanted to be put back on our list. A few days later,
Melody was in their home, lighting up their lives again. We got a nice call
over Christmas to tell us how well she's fitting in and how happy they are
to have her.
Mylene
Agnes(now Mylene) The Philadelphia SPCA contacted us about a 6-8 year
old female Scottie they were holding in the back room. She'd originally
come in off the street in the early fall in horrible shape, missing hair and
her feet cut up. They were kind enough to care for her, but adopted her
out to a family with a young child. One night the child startled her in her
bed in the dark (she is also hard of hearing), although only wanting to hug
her, Agnes bit the child. Although no damage was done, the family realized
she was probably not the best fit for them and returned her. Not wanting
to make any more mistakes for her, the shelter contacted us and wanted
to work through us. We adopted Agnes out to a lawyer in Haverford, PA (
a friend of one of our club members) who was trying to find her parents
another scottie. They had recently lost her scottie and still had a blind
westie. The scottie had been her 'eyes' and companion. Agnes, now
Mylene, is doing great in her new home up near Albany. She acts like she's
always been there, sleeps in bed with them, and the westie is following
her around everywhere, getting around a lot better again with a little help
from her new sister!!

Marley and Shortie
Marley (top) and Shortie(bottom) We were contacted by a woman who
had picked up 2 scotties from shelters over the past few years, she
rehabilitated them and now wanted to place them through scottie rescue.
One was Marley, a sweet, 6-7 year old male, who got along with
everyone. He'd been named Marley because of all the matted and
overgrown hair he came in with. We adopted Marley to the most wonderful
woman, an architect, in Harrisburg, PA. She wanted to continue with the
adoption, even though Marley was diagnosed with a severe heart murmur
and bladder cancer. She gave Marley a wonderful home and happy life for
his 2 remaining months. Marley passed away just after the New Year from
bladder cancer. We are all saddened by the loss of such a sweet boy, and
just when he finally found someone who truly loved him. Shortie was an
energetic 5 year old female. Originally unsocialized, the woman who
fostered her, worked hard to make her happy, trusting and friendly again.
She was also friendly with cats, dogs, and children, so was an easy
placement. She's now living with her new family, including a 2 year old
scottie brother, in Hanover, PA, and doing very well.

Chauncy
Originally named Champ when he was fostered with the Cooks, 7 year old
Chauncy came from a home where the owners were worried about him
with their baby, was then adopted to a woman in southern, NJ. The
adoption didn't work out, not because the woman didn't love him, but
because her friends and family were exerting pressure and there was an
incident. Not being able to get information about what actually happened,
we were not willing to euthanize him without a longer evaluation. Judi was
able to take Chauncy into foster for about 6 weeks to evaluate him and
found him to be her idea of a perfect scottie. She had absolutely no
incidents with him and enjoyed her time with him. Chauncy was adopted to
a male couple in Barnveld, NY who also have a male and female scottie.
They had just moved up from NYC and work from home, so the scotties
will have the run of a large home and property. So far, all is going well with
the adoption and we are hopeful this will be Chauncy's final and best
home.

Montrose
Dartagnon (now Montrose) A nice 2 year old male Scottie from southern
New Jersey, he needed to be rehomed because the young couple who
owned him were moving to NYC to attend business school. The housing
wouldn't allow a dog. Initially frightened of new people and situations,
Dartagnon still trusted rather quickly and settled faster than we expected.
He is now in his forever home in NYC with an author who works from home
and has lots of quality time for him. He enjoys the promenade (boardwalk)
outside his front door, the small dog park, and sitting on the swing with his
new mom on their gardened terrace overlooking the East River. I will
always remember my last view of Dartagnon, running with his new mom up
the steps to the promenade together like best friends, like the stairway to
heaven.
Fiddler
Fiddler is a 4 year old male who came to us from someone who had
adopted him from a NY shelter only days before. He was originally a stray,
so we don't know his background. Due to the volume of rescues in foster
at the time, he boarded at the Finn's All Star Kennels in Sewell, NJ, until
we found his forever home. Thanks also to Marge Rosa for interviewing his
new parents and doing the home inspection. His new mom is a college

professor and his new dad a physical therapist in Eastern, PA. Fiddler had
settled into his new life very quickly and is a happy and well loved guy. His
new dad says he's just been perfect when we called for the progress
report!
Scotty
7 year old Scotty2 went to his owner's daughter when she died. She
contacted me when she realized she could not give him the care he
needed, with her work schedule, he spent a lot of time in the garage. Very
emotional over entrusting her mother's dog to someone else, we promised
her he'd be in safe and loving hands. Scottie was also a sweetheart, very
easy going, laid back, & friendly. He was placed with a young couple in
NYC living right near both Riverside and Central Parks, so he'll have plenty
of places to walk and explore. He settled right in with them and his new
older scottie sister like he'd always been there. We spent a few hours in
the city keeping busy and called them again to make sure things were
working out before we drove back home and they were all sitting on the
couch together watching a movie. We went home with happy hearts.

Shappa
Shammy (now Shappa) is a 14 month old scottie mix. Looking like an extra
large scottie with red brindle hair and striking ice blue eyes, he was the
kind of dog that stopped people passing him on the street to ask what he
was. Seeing the kind of attention he generated, Judi had him neutered the
day after picking him up from the shelter, to make sure he was never used
for breeding. He was a big, stong, energetic, friendly puppy, and seems to
like both the attention of people and can also amuse himself quietly with a
toy. He was adopted to a couple in southern New Jersey who also have an
older scottie they wanted company for. Things seem to be going very well
and he's finally getting all the love, attention and exercise he thrives on.
Shappa is the Indian word for Red Wolf and seems to fit him well. We know
we will never see another dog with as stunning and unique a combination
of traits as he has.
Jemma
A 9 year old with deformed front feet and bad allergies, Jemma came in
from a PA shelter very downtrodden. Her owner couldn't fix her allergies
and couldn't bear to see her suffer anymore. Jemma came down with the
canine flu only a few days after coming to our home and it took the better
part of two weeks and 2 antibiotics and a lot of TLC to fight it off.
Another 9 weeks of food allergy trials and then allergy bloodtests isolated
that she was allergic mainly to mold and dust (just like me!). We've
started her on allergy shots, soothing baths and a new diet, and she's
already shown a lot of improvement. Of course, after all that time, we
couldn't part with her. So, she's our new daughter and fits right into our
home and our hearts.

Cayenne
2 year old, wheaten scottie, Casey (now Cayenne), came in as a stray to
a Long Island, NY shelter. He was so matted and overgrown, he had to be
totally shaved. Suffering from pain from a badly ulcerated inner ear and
scared, he was snappy at the shelter. He fostered with Judi who took
excellent care of his ear and once he felt better, he really showed his true
friendly and playful self. The couple who did the first leg of his transport to
us, continued to think about him afterwards and then contacted me about
adopting him. Being past adopters of ours, we were quite pleased, as we
knew he'd have a wonderful life with them and his other scottie and
schnoodle sisters. He's now settled in very well and is one happy little
man. His ear finally seems to be healed, but we are keeping a close eye on
it. We hope to be able to share him with everyone at the rescue parade
this year at Lulu Temple.
Augie
Occasionally we pick up another breed we can place. We were contacted
about Augie, an 11 month old westie, whose owners needed to give him up
due to changing circumstances. We had to work fast as we heard they
were going to bring him to a shelter within a few days. Thankfully the
owners lived only about an hour from Judi and were willing to bring him to
her. He had already had all the necessary medical care needed for
adoption, so once we screened one of our applicants who had requested a
scottie or a westie (they'd had both), he was ready to go to his new

home. He's now living up near Rochester, NY, with his new parents who
adore him already. What's not to love?
Simon
Simon is a sweet 4 year old wheaten scottie who was given to a private
rescue group in NY when his mother was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
The group preferred to have someone familiar with the breed place him, so
contacted us, and we were happy to help. Simon was adopted by one of
our past adopters who had recently lost an elderly wheaten scottie with
Cushings they adopted from us a few years ago. With a little training,
housebreaking, and fattening up, Simon is doing great. He enjoys living in
and traveling between his home in suburbia and his country home with his
scottie brothers.
Scotty
Scotty was left at his groomer after his original family divorced. The
groomer called a client who had a scottie in and a westie and she took him
home to avoid him going to a shelter, then contacted me. 6 years old,
Scotty was 30 pounds of energy, but a sweetheart, very friendly and

lovable. We really enjoyed fostering and snuggling him. Even the first

Scotty went to his forever home in Vermont to live with a woman who
runs a business on her property. He's a great companion for her and he
gets more attention than he's ever had before.
Douglas
I was contacted by a shelter in NY who had an 8 month old scottie mix
come in that had been there for 3 months already with no interest. They
were going to euthanize him if we couldn't take him within a week. In a
panic, we went up to get him, although we didn't have foster space
anywhere for him. We got him ready to adopt, he was neutered,
vaccinated and groomed, but since it takes longer to adopt the mixes, we
were very fortunate that a private rescue group down the street from me
answered my pleas and were willing to take him in until adopted. They
kept him in a foster home and took him to local offsite adoptions until
someone appreciated how lovely he was. They also worked on training him
and housebreaking him to make him much more adoptable. Happily, he was
adopted about 6 weeks later and we were sent pictures of him in his new
home. He must be a scottie/standard schnauzer mix, with a lovely scottie
head on a tall body. This is a good example of there being a right match
out there for almost everyone, given the time and exposure. I am so
happy and relieved that this sweet and handsome young dog got a chance
at life that he deserved, after all, and grateful to 11th Hour Rescue in
Rockaway, NJ for all they did for him too.

Violet
Little Bit (now Violet) is a 6 year old female who came to rescue when her
elderly owner died suddenly from complications of diabetes. The pastor in
his town in PA saw to it that Little Bit was cared for while he was in the
hospital for months, until his death, when his daughter signed her over to
us. She spent time in several homes and a boarding kennel before we got
her. She came in with a frayed crutiate ligament in one knee, so was in a
lot of pain and unable to walk on the leg. Our vet recomended medication
and rest to see if it would heal on it's own, rather than do the surgery, as
it wasn't totally torn through. The surgery still might be necessary soon or
in the future if it's injured again. Because we are concerned that if we
adopt her out, someone might not be able or willing to afford the
expensive surgery which will likely be needed, we decided to have her join
our family too. She's a very sweet girl and gets along with the rest of the
scotties here just fine. We think her dad would be happy she's being so
well loved and the people who cared for her all those months are happy
about it too. Thanks also to Marge Rosa for grooming her so beautifully
when she stayed with her for the beginning of her rescue journey.

adopters who we kept in touch with, in Bath, PA. His new mom is a retired
nurse and is home with him all day. His new dad works early and comes
home early, to they have a lot of time for Jake. We know we will be
keeping in touch with them and seeing great progress!
Marnie
Only 2 weeks after buying Marnie, her new mom had a stroke and was
unable to walk. The family tried to help her along, but it became obvious
that she would not be able to keep her. A sweet, lovely, caramel colored
wheaten girl, not yet a year old, she was scared and confused when she
came into rescue. We adopted Marnie out to a couple who were also past
adopters, in New Hope, PA. who have a young male scottie they adopted
from us a year or two ago. The two are enjoying pretty much nonstop
playing, as a puppy should. Marnie likes to lounge on the couch in her new
home and sleep cuddled up with her new mom. She also sits outside the

shower when she's in there and right by her side when she's putting on her
makeup.
Big Al
Big Al, only 6 months old. had already been in two homes by the time he
was brought to a Philadelphia shelter. Worried he'd get into the wrong
hands again, the shelter contacted rescue and hid him in the back until we
came for him. Big Al needed some training and housebreaking, love and
routine, but was an adorable little boy. He rested here for a while, put on
a little weight, and started his training, before going on to his new home.
He was adopted by a young couple only a few miles away who were up to
the challenge and very excited about adding Big Al to their family. His new
dad is a lawyer who gave us some great suggestions on how to change
our adoption forms and his new mom is a teacher, home for the summer,
so she'll have a lot of time to get Big Al into their routine - unless he trains
them first!!
Violet
The lovely Violet (not the same Violet as was in last quarter's edition), is a
9 year old little spitfire of a scottie. Unfortunately, the couple who loved
her so dearly, adopted a young child, which didn't suit Violet. When a bite
scared the child badly, they contacted us to find her another home. It
wasn't that easy with Cushings and some other medical issues (although

she is asymptomatic now), but a very nice couple in Claymont, Delaware
were interested in giving Violet a chance. She loves her new parents and
they love her, but they are still working on getting her to be nicer to their
Bichon. We know these things can take time and are keeping our fingers
crossed. These very experienced dog owners are not the kind that give up
easily!
Duffy
7 year old Duffy came to us when his owner died and her daugher wanted
to euthanize him. The owner's granddaughter thankfully intervened on his
behalf, retrieved him, and brought him home to NYC. She contacted us
when one of her own dogs attacked him and she knew it wouldn't be safe
for him there either. Duffy was one of the sweetest, most gentle scotties
we've met, and our vet's personal favorite. A gentle giant. He was
overweight and looked like a watermelon in a hula skirt, but with his
improved diet and all the exercise he's now getting, that should be
remedied soon. We placed Duffy in Bedminster, NJ with a woman and her
10 year old daughter who also have an adorable 2 year old female scottie.
They are good company for each other when mom is at work. We think
Duffy is just the man of the house they were looking for!
Ailsa

NJ last fall. She had absolutely no hair, she shook from fright, and was
nursing an old leg injury. An older girl, she couldn't hear very well. After
appropriate testing was done, we could still not figure out what caused
this hairloss, unless it was stress or poor nutrition. She fostered with a
good friend of mine in Yonkers, NY, also a past adopter, very well versed
in nutrition and natural healing, and all her hair grew back in within a few
months and she was no longer limping. Life must have been very hard for
Ailsa on the street, she has a habit of hiding part of her meals, treats, and
even her wated bowl under her blankets. She just loved the large Vari
Kennel we sent with her, that it has become her favorite hideaway.
Our foster mom decided to adopt Ailsa, as she was so comfortable there
and neither of us want to put her through another stressful change. She
has really adapted so well and bosses around the other 2 scotties and
cats at Helen's house! Ailsa will never have to wonder where her next meal
or bowl of water will come from again.
Kyra/Bridget
Kyra (now Bridget), a 4 year old stray, had a very long road to her new
life. Ending up in a NY state shelter, she was adopted from there and
returned to us. Her brother Fiddler was featured in last quarter's Happy
Endings. We boarded Kyra with the Finns at their All Star Kennels in
Sewell, NJ, because we didn't have the room to take her into foster at the
time. While there, we discovered that she had little bite marks all over the
inside of her ears and neck, probably from other dogs. We are sure she
didn't have a nice life before this. The Finns evaluated her, groomed and
fed her well until we adopted her to a caring woman in Abington, PA who
had recently lost her elderly scottie. Originally she thought perhaps she
was too much for her, as she had some mobility problems, but with her
dog experience and some coaching from us and her daughter, she was
able to really turn Kyra's life around, and has decided to keep her. Kyra
has blossomed into a lovely girl, now housebroken, no more stomach
problems, sleeps with her new mom, and is her constant companion. She
went from a scared girl, afraid to fall asleep, to one who runs around and
jumps with glee. She has a toy monkey that she thinks is her puppy, who
she carries around and cleans his face. We know time and the continued
love she is getting will only make Kyra a happier scottie and are very
thankful that her new mom put months of love into making her come this
far.

Jamie
8 year old Jamie came into rescue as a result of a divorce. Having been
previously loved and well cared for, he had a very nice disposition. While
at Jim and Linda's vet, getting ready for adoption, a woman who was there
with one of her dogs was very taken with Jamie. She followed through and
adopted him, now he's living happily with her and her husband, a cairn and
a westie too!
Maggie
1 year old Maggie (r.) and her sister just stopped getting along when they
became young adults. You know how tough 2 scottie girls can be together
when they set their mind to it. As heartbroken as their parents were,
having bought the pair together as puppies, they were worried about their
safety and contacted us for help. Maggie was placed in NYC with a woman
whose scottie companion had recently passed away. She is a sculptor, so
works from a home studio, and Maggie is getting lots of attention and
walks in the park. She likes to travel and vacation often, taking Maggie
along with her. Maggie's had more vacations this summer than we've had
in years!!

Laci
2 year old Laci, the most lovely and affectionnate scottie, was brought to
us as an emergency. Apparently, her home was very close to the
neighbors and she had a bad habit of howling when left alone. Since both
parents worked fulltime, it gave her ample reason to howl. When a
neighbor came over drunk one night and threatened the family and dogs if
this continued, they got scared and were forced to give her up. Certainly
a loss to them and a gain to us. Laci was adopted by her foster parents in
northern CT. They are a young retired couple with a lovely Victorian home
near the beach and plenty of room in between the homes. We had to get
Laci out of here and into another foster home as soon as possible, or we
would never have been able to part with her. Laci enjoys visiting their
children and grandchildren and their dogs - she's very social and loves
everyone.
Molly/Maureen
8 month old Molly (pictured with Erica) found herself in a bad position
when her young family was forced to move in with their grandparents with
several babies and her. Although they were trying to find a place to rent,
they were unable to find one that would rent to young parents with

children and a dog. A very mild mannered, sweet puppy, everyone who
met Molly loved her, so we enjoyed taking her around with us. Molly was
adopted by a couple in PA with another sweet female scottie who came
from Glengala. The girls sleep cuddled up together like mother and
daughter. We are looking forward to seeing Molly (now Maureen) again at
our rescue parade on October 5th.
Molly
Molly Senior, an older gal in her teens, was taken from a home in NY state
by a cat rescue group who came in to remove many cats. She was being
neglected and abused and was in terrible condition. She was fostered with
Judi, vetted and groomed in NY, and then came to join the Cerny clan in
NJ for the remainder of her life. She's a real sweet girl and enjoys meeting
people and other dogs, loves her meals and loves her walks. Unfortunately,
while having her teeth cleaned, the vet found a malignant melanoma under
her tongue, so her time with us will be shorter than we had hoped. But,
she will be well loved for whatever time that turns out to be.
Zoe
Zoe is a 4.5 year old pretty brindle scottie who was too much dog for her
family's toddlers and their friends. Strong and protective, she's a scottie
better suited for a quieter environment and a more experienced household.
After spending several weeks at Chez Cook, she was adopted by a couple

in PA whose scottie had recently passed away and are friends of club
members of ours. Looks like Zoe hit the jackpot this time around!!
Phil
Philadelphia Phil, an elderly scottie/cairn mix, well into his teens we think,
was brought into the Philadelphia Paws shelter by a neighbor to be
euthanized when his owner died. The shelter wouldn't do it, he was such a
sweet old guy, so we were contacted. We brought him in, removed
bladder stones to make him more comfortable, and he hung out here in
foster, just loved to totter around and meet other dogs and lay in your
lap. Phil (now Scotchee) is currently living in New Hampshire with a woman
who adopts elderly dogs, and just adores him. He has 2 elderly cairn ladies
who vie to see who gets to sleep in the doggy bed with him. We know he's
safe and happy there for whatever time he has left. We were sad to see
him go.
Little Bear
Little Bear, an 8 year old male scottie, found himself in trouble when he
owners died. Their daugher and son in law had other dogs who he didn't
get along with, so he needed to be rehomed. They lived near Pittsburgh,
over 8 hours from us, so we tried to figure out a way to get him here to
safety asap when no local help could be found. They were willing to drive
4 hours, which could bring him to the DC area, so we arranged with Jeanne

list from VA. By the next weekend, Little Bear with in his new home and
doing great! He goes to work every day with his new dad and gets all the

Teddy
3 year old wheaten scottie Teddy, from Bensalem, PA. was left hanging
when his 81 year old owner died. Teddy had been well loved, his father
used to wrap him in a blanket and sit him in his lap at night. The owner's
daughter, who had originally bought him for her father, took him in, but
when he didn't get along with her boxers, everyone spent much of the day
crated for about a year. Miserable, distressed, and chewing his hair off,
things were going downhill for Teddy fast. Realizing that this wasn't in the
best interest of any of the dogs, Teddy was tearfully relinqusihed to
STCGNY Rescue. Teddy went through our process of evaluation,
neutering, healing, and gotten ready for adoption over the next few
weeks. Small, friendly, and nice looking, there was a lot of interest in him,
but we felt he needed to be an only dog. He was a adopted by a couple in
Scotland, CT, as their only pet. With one being retired and the other being
semi-retired, they have lots of time for their new companion and are very
happy to have him. Teddy is getting all their attention and making up for
his year in confinement.
MacIntosh

between his long hours at a new job and all that was going on with the
children. A beautiful wheaten male, healthy and with a great personality,
he was easy to place. Past adopters, from Dresher, PA, whose wheaten
scottie (adopted from us) had recently passed away, were thrilled to
adopt MacIntosh. They were calling frequently, waiting for another
wheaten male to come into rescue. A nice couple, semi-retired, they take
Mac everywhere with them, and he's now getting more attention than he's
ever had before!
Duncan
5 year old Duncan came from Palisades, NJ to STCGNY Rescue. His mom
purchased him from a breeder as a puppy, and died suddenly when Duncan
was only about 3. His father remarried and had a baby with his new wife,
who didn't want Duncan around. True, he was a strong boy, and probably
too much for an infant, but we are sure the memories also made things
harder for him to be around. He spent most of his time in the 'furnace'
room alone. He was such a pleasant boy, so handsome and friendly to
everyone. After being treated for lyme disease and recovering from his
neutering, he was adopted by a family in Richmond, VA. His new father,
recently retired, had just started up a second career, working from home,
and Duncan is always by his side, getting all the freedom and attention
that he'd missed over the last few years.

Zeus
3 year old Zeus, came from a home in Clifton Park, NY, where the husband
couldn't stand his exuberant personality. A strong boy, he would run and
play and bump into things and people, and was always in trouble for it.
They had other dogs who were quiet and more fragile. Obviously not the
right home for a scottie. Striking with is imposing size and beautiful
wheaten coloring, Zeus made a huge hit at the STCA Rescue parade when
he came into rescue. Especially after Helen Krisko spiffed up his hairdo.
Zeus was adopted by a couple in Natick, MA who were very fortunate to
have found such a special scottie!

General Beauregard
3 year old General Beauregard came to us from the NYC shelter. Large and
imposing, handsome and sweet, he fit right in with the other dogs in
foster. He was such a good boy and a pleasure to have with us. Even
though he was microchipped, when his owners were called, they never
came to claim him. We will never be able to figure that out, but their loss
was our gain. The General is now living a life of luxury with a great couple
and their two other scotties in Kintnersville, PA
Onyx
6 year old Onyx (Mamo) came from Queens, NY. His owners gave him away
when they had a baby, and the new family ended up contacting us
because their child was very allergic to him. It was such an emergency,
that Judi Dahl was in the car heading to Queens within 5 minutes of the
call. Onxy was bilingual (spoke both English and Spanish), and we had
quite a interest from the Hispanic population after listing this in his bio!
Sweet, gentle and easy going, every one of us who met him or fostered
him, even for a few days, wanted to keep him. Lots of discussions were
had over this (LOL), but he ended up being adopted by our club members
and his second foster family, the Durkees, on Long Island, NY, where he fit
in like a glove with their other rescues scotties and schnoodles. Live long

and prosper, our little man, you’ve finally found your forever home, and it’s
a great one!
Scotch
3 year old Scotch came to us from Albertus, PA. His father was in the
service and was rarely home, which left his mom home to manage him and
a baby alone. It was just too much for her. Scotch is a handsome scottie
with an extra large frame, he’s the size of a small standard poodle. A
gentle giant, he is friendly to everyone he meets, but a master of killing
toys. Scotch was placed in Worcester, MA with a couple who feel very
fortunate to have found such a wonderful companion. His dad works
primarily from home, so he’s got plenty of time to dote on Scotch.
Joey
3 year old Joey came to us from a woman in NY state. When her
relationship ended in Arizona, she moved here leaving a home and fenced
yard and two other dogs that belonged to her ex, for an apartment. Joey
did not make the adjustment well, and his separation anxiety when she left
for work, became a problem in the rental unit. Also sweet, gentle and very
sensitive, this wheaten scottie weighed in at 33 pounds, a large framed
boy. Joey was placed with a family in Maryland who were specifically
waiting for a wheaten male for a long time. Joey fit in easily with their
other two rescue scotties and is having a wonderful time being part of

their 2 legged and 4 legged family. Mom works part time and has done rally
with her other scotties, so we expect Joey will soon be following in their
footsteps.
Spencer
12 year old Spencer was dumped at the Buck’s County SPCA by his owners
who felt him being around interfered with their ability to travel. The sad
part is that if his family had given him to us directly, he would have
avoided getting kennel cough/canine flu that made it hard for him to
breathe for his first few weeks and gave us cause to rush him to the vet
several times for fear of losing him. A stunningly handsome dog and
beautifully groomed, he must have been show quality in his youth. His
easygoing personality is occasionally interrupted by a scottie moment,
when he will take off after a squirrel or hassle with the vet. He may be an
older guy, but he’s still got plenty of feisty still in him! When I took him to
Petsmart one day for some toothpaste, customers and staff actually lined
up to pet him, tell me their scottie stories and ask if he was available for
adoption. He was a huge hit on our website too. But, in the end, the
family who offered to foster him, ended up adopting him – they loved him
and just couldn’t give him back. He now lives in Suffern, NY, a convenient
location for me to drop in and visit him. This time of the year, you can
usually find him sitting with his family on their home theatre recliners
watching football. He really does watch and seems to enjoy it as much as
they do. They have planned an adoption party for the spring and we will
be sure to be there!

Missy (7), Willy(7) and Foxy(4)
When their owner fell off a ladder and died, the owner’s son called us and
asked us to see if we could take these 3 sweet scotties into foster from
eastern PA. They had been well loved and were all very bonded to each
other, being mother, father and daughter, so they asked if we could place
them together. Not an easy task, but they were well worth trying to do
our best for them. The perfect couple, the Walsh’s from Williston, Vt.
Contacted us after seeing them posted on our website. They had always
had multiple scotties, but their last had just passed away. Mrs. Walsh
recently retired and Mr. Walsh works nearby at U of Vermont, so there’s
plenty of time to spend with their new scottie family. They are all spending
the summer at their lake house, where the dogs are enjoying lots of room
to run and play. We were very relieved and happy to have been able to
keep these dear scotties together for the remainder of their lives and with
such caring people. These scotties were wonderful and we miss them!!!

Fiona
Fiona came in from a woman in Astoria, Queens, who had lost her
apartment due to finances. Diane Durkee, was able to rush over and pick
her up and get her out of this emergency situation. Filthy and neglected,
Diane and Bruce followed up getting Fiona properly cleaned up, brought up
to date on her vaccines and started on her lyme disease treatment. By
that time, they had fallen in love with her, and since she fit right into their
little pack, they decided to adopt her themselves.
A beautiful and sweet little silver scottie, Fiona is a great ambassador for
scottie rescue and the breed, she’s admired by all who meet her and a few
visitors have tried to walk off with her under their coats already. We are
so happy that she will finally get all the care and attention that she
deserves!
Mitzi (Lucia)
4-5 year old Mitzi was found wandering the streets near Erie, Pa, by a
woman who then contacted me to take her into foster. Very sweet,
scared and neglected, we feel she started her journey in a puppymill,
where she either escaped or was dumped for not producing. She was
fostered by a volunteer in PA, Karen Hess, who tirelessly worked on
socializing and housebreaking her, a labor of love to be sure, and we really
appreciate her dedication. We brought Mitzi up to date on her medical
care and grooming and she remained in foster several months until a
couple from Maryland, the Price’s, saw her on our website. They had
recently lost their scottie to cancer and were anxious to have a scottie as
part of their family again. Mitzi is now living in Silver Spring, MD. With her
new dad who practices anti-trust law for the government and her new
mom, who volunteers at the Smithsonian. Mom has cut down her hours to
enjoy more time with Mitzi and make her transition more comfortable for
her, and thing are going just perfectly. We couldn’t be happier for sweet
little Mitzi and are happy that her journey to find love is now over.

Izzy
4-5 year old Izzy was picked up by the Camden, NJ shelter and then
transferred to a no kill rescue group, who then contacted us to take her.
She was missing a lot of hair and nobody was interested in adopting her.
After a good grooming, some time in foster with a healthy diet, and some
skin care, Izzy looked beautiful, nobody would have recognized her from
how she looked! Tiny, at only 15-16 pounds, Izzy had enough energy for
two scotties! We found a home for her on Cape Cod with a past adopter
who had recently lost the last scottie they adopted from us to cancer.
Izzy goes to work with her every day, as she has her own business, and
loves to run on the beach after dinner. A very happy ending for a girl with
an unfortunate start!
Shadow
12 year old Shadow ended up in a shelter in northern NY state when his
owner went into a nursing home. A local scottie lover found out that he
was there and adopted him so she could turn him over to breed rescue. He
was missing a lot of hair from allergies when he came to us and wasn’t
looking his best. After a few months on a good diet, medicated baths, and
medication, his hair grew back in and he looked quite handsome. A friendly
and easy going guy, we were hoping for an older applicant to come
forward for him. At about this time, some older friends of ours from Maine
contacted us to let us know they were ready to adopt again and the rest
is history. Shadow is enjoying his new home with the Gays in Rockland,
Maine. They are still working on his housebreaking schedule since the

recent adoption threw him off, but they are really enjoying each other’s

Roxy (top) and Ziggy (bottom)
6 year old Roxy and 9 year old Ziggy came to us from Morris Township, NJ
when their older owners were no longer able to walk them. They are
beautiful and adorable dogs, originally bought from a good breeder who has
since passed away. We were able to place them with a nice couple, the
Sigreto’s in Matamoras, PA, who had recently lost their last scottie to
cancer. Mrs Sigreto is a nurse and Mr Sigreto is a firefighter at Picatinny
Arsenal, only a few miles from my house. They are getting along famously
with the family basset hound and enjoying all the exercise they are now
getting between their large fenced yard and all the walks they take with
this nice, younger couple.

MacDougal
7 Year old MacDougal came to us from PA when his owner lost his sight
and became unable to take care of himself or MacDougal anymore. His son
and daughter in law were instrumental in getting him safely into STCGNY
Rescue. Very shy, he’d been sheltered with the elderly man as his owner,
so he needed some time to adjust to being in foster with new people and
other dogs. After being neutered and having some overlooked medical care
attended to, the gentle MacDougal went to his new home in Providence,
Rhode Island with 2 brothers who are carpenters, and their female scottie
Sandy. He’s doing very well and very happy to have a sister, and just
what these brothers were looking for. Thank you to Judi Dahl for all the
driving to pick him up and drop him off, and for fostering him.
Walle (L) and Archie(R)
2 year old Archie came to us from an older woman who had adopted him
from a shelter a year earlier. Handsome and lively, she fell for him quickly,
not taking into consideration that he was too high energy for her at this
point in her life. Archie is just the type of dog all our applicants wanted, so
we had a lot of interest in him, but he went to his forever home in
Nazareth, PA with a meteorologist and his wife, an engineer at J&J, and
their westie Walle. Walle had been very lethargic since their last scottie

passed away and he’s just thrilled to have Archie around. The two of them
are inseparable. In all the pictures we get, their feet never seem to touch
the ground, they are running all over their large house and yard together.
Many thanks to past adopters, the St. Pierre’s, from Long Island, NY for
fostering Archie until his forever home could be selected, and to Bruce and
Diane Durkee for all the transporting and coordinating.
Mackee
7 year old Mackee came to us from Philadelphia. His owners moved
somewhere they said they were unable to take him and left him with their
groomer to find him another home. Coincidentally, this groomer was the
daughter of one of our past adopters, so they contacted us for help.
Handsome and with plenty of Scottietude, Mackee was just what his new
family was looking for after being so down since the recent loss of their
last scottie to TCC. Mackee is the 3rd scottie they adopted from STCGNY
rescue and we were happy they returned to us for their next companion.
He’s doing very well in his new home in Farmingdale, NJ. The couple are
retired so they have lots of time to devote to him. Both are very athletic,
so Mackee is getting plenty of exercise to burn off his energy. They
couldn’t believe their good fortune in adopting such a beautiful scottie!

PA, when her owner didn’t have enough time for her anymore. A pretty
black scottie girl, Missy was very shy and skittish, but adjusted well in
foster and became buddies with several of the other dogs while there. She
was adopted by an engaged woman who is a field manager for Coach and
lives in a lovely brownstone in the gentrified section of Jersey City, NJ.
Missy is an only dog and doing well in her new life. Thank you to Judi Dahl
for fostering her and picking her up in PA.
DaisyStill in Foster
4-5 year old, silver brindle Daisy. Sweet and gentle, I picked her up from a
shelter in eastern DE as a stray. She’s recovering from her spay and now
ready to move onto her new life. Thank you to Judi Dahl for fostering her
and for transport help from past adopters Marilyn Zdobinsky from Totowa,
NJ and Judith Asphar from Woodstock, NY.
ScooterStill in Foster
6-8 year old, brindle Scooter. He came to us after the DE SPCA got tired
of returning him to his owner. He had been in and out of the shelter for
the last 2 years, always escaping from his unfenced yard. The shelter
staff liked him and worried about his safety. In very neglected condition,
the shelter groomer shaved his mats down to the skin except for his head.

Scottish Terrier Club of Greater New York, Inc. - Happy Endings Archive
We have been treating him for lyme disease and he had a painful broken
canine tooth removed, but he’s raring and ready to go to his forever home.
Although he’ll need to wear a coat to keep warm this winter, he’s got an
adorable face and is so sweet and friendly, quiet and affectionate and will
make someone a wonderful companion. He is in foster with me in NJ.
Thanks to Arlene Brice for picking him up at the shelter and for Susan and
Frank Finn for boarding him there until I could get down to them to
retrieve him.
LucyStill in Foster
4 year old Lucy, who came to us several months ago when her young
family was unable to give her the time or resources she needed. She came
to us with such bad allergies, that our normal skin protocol wasn’t able to
make her comfortable. She is now on allergy shots and some oral
medication and doing just great! She doesn’t get along with other dogs,
but she loves people and is very affectionate. She will make a great
companion for someone who can give allergy shots once a week, we will
train them, and who doesn’t have another dog. She’s being fostered with
Judi Dahl in NY state.
