THE LITTLE GOATS WANT YOU FOR MINI GOLF
T
he Little Goats
(otherwise known as the
kids of Ibex members)
invite everyone to an
afternoon of mini golf on
Sunday, May 20, at 3
pm. The cost is $6 for
adults and $5.50 for kids.
The course is themed out
in the American West
and has some cool replicas of Mount Rushmore,
the Golden Gate Bridge,
a buffalo, etc. (need I say
more!)
Location: Fore Seasons
Indoor Golf, 1350 Lake
St., Roselle. It is located
on the north side of Lake
St. (U.S. Route 20), just
west of the Thornton’s
gas station. It is about
4.5 miles west of I-355/
Ill. Route 53 and approximately 2.5 miles
east of Barrington Rd.
Remember, the Little
Goats provides an opportunity to get the whole
family involved. Feel
free to invite friends and
former Ibexers who have
drifted away from the
club since having children.

MOONS MUSINGS
H
appy New Year!!
OK, OK, it’s just the
fiscal New Year for Ibex
Ski Club. As I start my
third term as President I
want to take a few minutes to thank the previous Executive Board.
Patrice Conaway has
done a great job as Trip
Chairperson for the past
two years, her replacement Sarah Schmeichel
will begin a two year
term, David Toy is also
taking a break from his
three years as membership chairman. David’s
replacement is Doris
Hoffie. And Ed Bendickson, Secretary and editor
of the award winning
newsletter, for the past
three years will also step
down, being replaced by
Ed Fee. The club will
miss your leadership, but
is also looking forward
to new ideas and plans
from the newest members of the EB.
Sunday, April 29th was
the transition meeting,
where the two boards
(EB and BOD) met to
transition the new members, discuss ideas for
the 2007-2008 summer
and ski season. For new
members the EB is responsible for the day to
day business of the club,
and the BOD is responsible for the long term
health and well being of
the club.
Last Saturday night, September 21st, 71 or so
Ibex joined Mindy Parry
at her first banquet as
Activities Chairperson.
She did an outstanding
job, planning and executing the banquet plan.
Thanks for your diligent
efforts, Mindy. Most
everyone wore Western
gear playing out the
Western Theme. I assume Mindy will mention the five horsewomen
that rode into the banquet
hall on their trusty
steeds. Will Lou wear
his Stetson hat again?
Mark Westlund spent
hours sorting through a
couple thousand photos
sent in from the various
trips and activities we
participated in this year.
Great job Mark, thank
you. I know several people helped Mark with the
photo editing, but most
of the time was spent
editing Ed Fee’s trip
pictures.
Ed, do you really have to
take 200 shots of one
building?
As I look back on last
year, I think the club is
in great shape, our membership is up, we went on
five ski trips with over
125 spots filled, played
in two golf outings, in
addition to the multitude
of other activities offered
during the year. The banquet was the second
highest attended is recent
memory. I have been
told by new members on
their first Ibex trip that it
was one of the best they
have taken; everyone
from the club went out of
their way to include them
in all of the trip activities
and events. That attitude
can only lead to new
members and a better
club.
Even with all that, we
need new activities, trips,
and outings to keep the
club invigorated and
growing. The only way
we stay vibrant is to continue to change, adding
new members, leaders,
and keep the vision of
Ibex. We do need, and
ask, you to volunteer
your time, business and
personal savvy to the
club as leaders of events
and the club in general.
The group of current
board members is always
looking for your input
and ideas to make the
club better. Please, feel
free to contact any one of
us with your thoughts.
Hey! Summer is just
around the corner, baseball, golf, bike riding,
boating, all kind of summer fun await those that
get off their couch, miss
the reruns, and enjoy the
best time of the year in
Chicago and its suburbs.

improved website from
our webmaster, Cindy
McElligott for news and

CMSC SPRING TRIP WEATHERS SNOW CONDITIONS

“Celebrating
David Lee’s
birthday with a
large bar bill and a
spanking by the

Stationary Llama...
aturday, March 24,
24 Ibex braved the
Spring Break crowd at
O’Hare for a journey that
included three states,
four cities, two planes
and a very warm bus
ride.
Sport America, the trip
provider for the CSMC
trip ran in to some difficulty arranging 240 air
spots for the trip. Our
flight schedule consisted
of a leg from Chicago to
Seattle, change fly from
Seattle to planes, and fly
to Boise.
We amused ourselves for
the four hour delay celebrating David Lee’s
birthday with a large bar
bill and a spanking by
the waitress.
Arriving in Boise around
5 PM, the bus was waiting for us along with 25
skiers from Chicago
Friar’s Ski Club. A
promised short grocery
stop, added to the
crowded conditions for
the three hour ride to Sun
Valley, ID.
Arriving at the historic
Sun Valley Lodge we
were met by our CMSC
Trip Leader,
Teri Kinney.
Keys were passed out for
the various condos, although accurate directions were sparse. Instead of waiting for luggage, Lynne and I
checked out the lounge
in the lodge. The locals
call the lounge “The
Wrinkle Lounge” because of the average age,
and style of music played
by the band.
Sunday morning we
caught the bus to River
Run at the base of Mt.
Baldy, stopping at Pete
Lane’s Ski Shop to rent
lockers and skies. Mike
Edens, Lou DiFrancisco,
and David Lee, while
walking to the shuttle
bus, coined the name,
“The Flying Llamas” as
they walked by the ice
skating rink. The name
stuck, as it became the
“A” Ibex race team.
They are looking to
trademark the name and
are searching for a logo.
The first lift of the day
confirmed our suspicions
that some 40% of the
mountain was not covered by snow. Sun Valley claims to have the
most advanced snow
making system in North
America, but that still
doesn’t cover the advanced runs.
My first mistake of the
trip, since the travel arrangements don’t count,
I picked Lookout Restaurant for lunch based on
past experience, the
place just was terrible,
and very expensive.
Back to the drawing
board for Wednesdays
lunch place. The menu
consisted of chicken
strips, hot dogs and cold
chili. That’s it!!!!
Sunday night CMSC
scheduled the welcome
wine and cheese at the
Sun Valley Inn, a village
hotel located just a few
blocks from our condos.
It was the first time we
had a chance to meet and
greet most of the 240
CMSC group since our
arrival.
Monday turned out to be
the best day for skiing,
since we received about
4 inches of new snow
overnight. Unfortunately
for David Lee, he had a
work emergency and had
to return to the condo for
a date with his laptop.
Monday afternoon was
the first scheduled
CMSC Après Ski Party.
Pizza and beer were free
flowing from around
3:30 to the last bus back
at 5 PM. Thank you to
Maureen for the ride
back to the Lodge.
Monday is also the first
race day; the race course
was set up on Lower
Cozy, a difficult run to
find, since several club
members said they could
not find the course. According to Lynne and
several others they didn’t
miss much, since the
course was very icy,
cold, and steep.
Tuesday night CMSC
scheduled a pub crawl in
Ketchum with five bars
in the mix. We stopped
at the fourth bar on the
list, The Roosevelt, for
dinner before the crawl
started. The service was,
at best slow, so Lynne
had several conversations with Amy, our
waitress to add some
hustle to her step.
After dinner we moved
to Whiskey Jacques, the

third stop of the pub
crawl, arriving before the
cover charge kicked in.
The cover charge was $5
and not to be waived for
the CMSC group that
arrived later. A lack of
preplanning I suppose.
Back to the Roosevelt
where Lou, David, and
Mike made very good
friends with the New
York bartender. I understand several dollars
were on the bar to pay
for rounds, that were
never picked up by the
bar staff. When asked
about the charge, the guy
tells Lou “I’m off duty.”
Wednesday is an open
day as far as CMSC is
concerned, so we plan
our group dinner at the
“Pioneer Saloon” the
place to be for prime rib
or fresh Idaho trout. By
the third day of the trip
you would think everyone would know what
time zone we were in.
Frank E. and Joe Johnston showed up almost an
hour late for dinner,
claiming they thought it
was 6PM even though it
was almost 7.
Since the snow was marginal Lou, Mike, Chuck,
David and I stopped
around three for a cold
one, at the Warm Springs
Day Lodge, a band, Du
Wa Riders were playing
very good country music,
so we listened for awhile
until the 3:45 last chair
to the top, so we could
ski back down to River
Run and meet the rest of
the Ibex Après Ski
Crowd.
During dinner the Du Wa
Riders sort of joined us,
they were at a different
table in the same room
with us. Talking with
them, I found out the
lead singer is from Naperville.
Thursday is the second
day of racing, CMSC is
asking clubs to have
“team” races, and Ibex
had three teams in the
field.
“The Flying Llamas”
was the “A” team with
Dan Casey, Lou DiFrancisco, and David Toy.
The “B” team had a DNF
because of Dan’s horrific
crash. The “Viagra Risers” with Frank Eichstaedt, Craig Moon, and
Ed Bendickson also had
a DNF. The “B2” team,
“The Manginas” with
Mike Edens, David Lee,
and Joe Johnston finished fourth.
So, back to the article,
Thursday night was a
wine and cheese party at
the Sun Valley Inn,
Hosted by Korbe l. The
group ended up splitting
up for dinner and several
different refreshment
stands in Ketchum.
party and dinner. We
were seated upstairs, but
had a great view of the
stage and a bird’s eye
view of the party. Dinner
was served buffet style
and outstanding.
Dinner and wine were
served while CMSC
opened the presentation
of race awards.
Suffice it to say at 11:00
pm, CMSC was still trying to get people off the
dance floor and onto the
last bus back to the
condo’s. Rumor has it
that several Ibex stayed
up past last call, playing
truth or dare in the lobby
of the Sun Valley Lodge.
Friday, the last day to ski
and rest up for the final
night party at River Run
was a sunny, warm, ski
day. Sun Valley only got
140 some inches of snow
all year compared to over
300 plus last year.
Sun Valley buses provided transportation to
River Run for the award
Overall it was a great
trip; I would recommend
Ibex look at future
CMSC Trips. The 2008
destination is Breckenridge, and 2009 is Lake
Tahoe.
Thanks to all that made
the trip a success.
Saturday morning, very
early Saturday morning
we had to stage luggage
and load the bus to Boise
International Airport.
The bus was a decrepit
city bus with no luggage
storage below, so all the
luggage ended up with us
in the bus. After the engine threatened to quit 3
times, we just made it to
the airport with about 50
minutes to spare. Since
the bus ride was so traumatic, there is no sense
running it into the
ground, no pun intended.

B
right eyed and
bushy tailed, everyone
showed up at O’Hare for
the early morning flight.
Stopping briefly in Texas
for some food and a
short stretch, we got
back on the plane and
headed to Gunnison.
Arriving at Gunnison, we
were greeted by one of
the smallest airports I
have seen so far. We
managed to gather our
belongings and pack 30
of us on to a 29 person
shuttle. From there,
Martin, our bus driver,
stopped at the local liquor store for some refreshments. I’m not sure
if it was the combination
of booze and the elevation or the beautiful
scenery but the drive to
the Grand Lodge flew
by.
Arriving at the Grand
Lodge we proceeded to
check in. Thankfully
there was a very helpful
and according to Mindy
a very cute bellhop
named Putnum, who
made sure all of our luggage made it to our
rooms. Later on that day
we met in the conference
room for the welcome
party, where we all enjoyed our favorite beverages and had a chance to
get to know one another
a little bit better.
The Grand Lodge’s accommodations were
awesome. However, due
to the kids’ race during
the weekend and all of
those little rug-rats running around you might
hear a differing opinion.
What was great about the
Grand Lodge was the
breakfast buffet every
morning. It was a great
way to meet up with the
crew and find out what
everyone did the night
before and where everyone was planning on
skiing for the day. Ellen
and Susan enjoyed the
outdoor hot tub when it
was working and not full
of ten to twelve kids
(mind you it was only 6,
maybe 7, person hot tub).
Another plus for the
Grand Lodge was the
Wildflower Spa. Jerry
J., Jerry D., Jennine,
Leena and several others
all took advantage of the
local spa. Be it a stone
message or a body polish
everyone came back raving about how good it
was especially after a
long day on the hill.
Since Ibex has a tendency to be a drinking
club with a skiing problem, the first day we
gravitated towards the
Ice Bar on the Hill. This
outdoor bar made completely of ice and hosted
by sasquatches, served
beverages under trees
bearing Marti Gras’
beads. Well… maybe
these we just women
wearing fur coats and I
had too much to drink.
But, sasquatches are
known to be heavy on
the liquor and they did
make the drinks strong.
Other then the bar this
was the location for the
last tracks dinner. Craig,
Jerry J., Mike E., Mike
P., Brain, Bill and Dorris, Wayne and Jackie
enjoyed a gourmet multicourse dinner. After
dinner and drinks they
skied down the hill under
the stars with lights attached to their heads.
Friday we explored the
hill. Several of the guys
went over to watch the
Crested Butte Extremes.
The Norleys took a ski
lesson with Bill H. and
we found out that Paru
was celebrating her
birthday this weekend.
To supplement Crested
Butte night life, we occasionally had “After
Town” parties in the
lobby by the fire place
(“After Town” since the
last bus left Crested
Butte at 11:45). The
late night activities included drinking, cards,
frosty beverages, quarters, yelling at people
when the door would
open, sipping alcoholic
beverages, talking to
some drunken ski bum,

“To their credit,
Therese and
Todd, may have
kept a few of us
out of jail”
Crested Butte was a
small and cozy town
(A.K.A. a two street
town; one street in and
one street out) that had a
lot of nice shops that
would cater to people
with money. To give
you an idea, one shop we
stopped in was selling a
quartz end table for a
mere $17 grand. Other
then that, the bus trip
from the ski village was
only 10 minutes and always entertaining. Between the “over 21” conversations and the amazing trapeze artist Ellen
performing her death
defying acrobatics there
was never a dull moment.
Sometime during our
skiing the adventurous
crew Craig, Mike E.,
Jerry J., Bill & Dorris,
Bill H., and Wayne decided to follow me on
what will be referred to
as the Hike from Hell.
After much protest and
talk of mutiny, we
reached the end of the
hike. From our location
we could see over the
entire valley and the day
was crystal clear so the
view was simply amazing. Besides the amazing view the hike put us
at the top of one Crested
Butte’s double black
extreme areas. After
some hairy entrances
dodging rocks and other
obstacles, our skis felt
the abuse. Due to this
run, several of us visited
the bar requesting whiskey for ourselves and ptex for our bases.
On Sunday night, Bill H.
got people together to
play cards. This was
Lucy’s chance to finally
learn how to play
Euchre. To include everyone Bill H., Jerry D.
Lucy, Mike W and
Mindy were playing a
five handed version of
Euchre while drinking
the leftovers from the
welcome party.
The last day Bill H.’s
snow dance finally
worked, up until then we
all thought that he was
having a choreographed
seizure. Anyway, the
snow gods graced us
with eight inches of fresh
powder and Cindy was
the first person out there
even against her doctor’s
advice.
There were rumors about
the Lemkes and the
Homans disappearance.
Every day after breakfast
they would leave and
they would return back
to the lodge each afternoon with big smiles on
their faces. Since I didn’t see them on the hill I
can only assume that
they were tearing up
some back country run in
the out of bounds area.
Monday night Joe and
Mike P. had a great pub
crawl set up in the town
of Crested Butte. We
started off with margaritas at a local Mexican
place and from there we
bounced down the street
hopping from bar to bar.
Thankfully there were no
bone crunching, ligament
tearing or backend bruising injuries on our trip
that I know about. Everyone seemed to be
blessed when it came to
not getting hurt and
avoiding pain except for
Jackie. One experience
that I could live without
is having to have a root
canal performed while
on vacation. Unfortunately for Jackie this was
the case, but she endured
through it and was able
to get some slope time in
with the rest of us.
In conclusion to this
great trip I one day hope
to be able to ski 400 days
a year, until then I’ll
have to settle for some
vodka with my 10 to 100
slices of lime. (Mike and
Jerry you know what I’m
talking about) Also, a
special thanks goes out
to Brian “the Bloodhound” Blome for his
uncanny ability to find
lost items on the mountain, namely my wallet.
Without him I would still
be in Crested Butte…
Thanks for the great trip
and I’ll see you on the
next one,
Paul

2007 IBEX BANQUET ROUND-UP WRAP-UP
A
nother Ibex ski
season has come to an
end and what better way
to reflect on the great
times we had skiing, and
not skiing, than the annual banquet! We celebrated the evening by
awarding …
Goatees:
Broken Crutch:
Dan Casey, torn ACL
during racing!
Balls of Courage:
Chuck Binzel, go get
em!
Biggest Mistake:
Terry McElligot, apparently his long legs could
help him step over a table, but his pants weren’t
having any part of that
(Crested Butte) AND he
was nice enough to cook
breakfast in Sun Valley,
but ended up over cooking the pancakes, leading
to a disaster
Broken Tooth:
Jaquie Woodach, sick the
first day of skiing at
Crested Butte, ended up
needing a Root Canal in
town the second day, but
by day 3, nothing was
stopping her from hittin
the slopes
Time Zone Barrier:
