Knifeladder have been in existence in one form or another since
Knifeladder have been in existence in one form or another since 1998. Their sound is the culmination of years of experimentation and independent development. The resultant sound is a heavily percussive industrial organic hybrid, a new meshing of electronic loops, live bass and percussion and ethnic instrumentation to form a kind of Organic Industrial Music. The personnel include Jonh Murphy, percussionist and electronic pioneer with such acts as SPK, early Current 93 and credible pop act The Associates. Hunter Barr was a founder member of the infamous Infant Skull Surgery and is a renowned recording engineer for his unconventional yet obsessively perfectionist approach. Andrew Trail was founder of Autogeddon and performed in the controversial Ministry of Love, who broke up after being banned from performing in every live venue in Sydney. He currently also plays live keyboards with Inertia. KnifeLadder are : Hunter Barr – bass, slightly more real piano all production Andrew Trail – Vocals, electronics, samples, completely fake piano. John Murphy – Drums, percussion, lo fi samples and loops, absolutely no attempt at piano. www.knifeladder.com The World tears it’s heart out (AntiValium Remix) Music by KnifeLadder Lyrics by Andrew Trail Remix by AntiValium None of you Music by KnifeLadder Lyrics by Andrew Trail Swarf are a female vocal led electronic 3 piece from Brighton. Their brand of sophisticated electro-pop takes in the influences of Trip-hop, trance, breakbeat, techno and, of course, pure electro to produce something that is uniquely theirs. A form of dance music that doesn¹t shy away from the beats but also produces great songs. The cool electro rhythms and synths are juxtaposed with stunning vocals with real passion. Fiction 8 is a band rife with odd contradictions. Their music is often both melancholy and empowering, casting an enduring spell over the listener. While the band members themselves tend to be hermits, they also relish playing live. Their live performances are electric, intense, and darkly humorous. They’re also consummate perfectionists with low self-esteem. Equally at home playing to hands in the air ravers on the dance scene and to the too cool for school crowd in London electro clubs, Swarf seem to have a broader appeal than most. Their track Subtext has been a regular favourite at London’s famous Whirl-y-gig club for over a year now (and is available on the club’s latest compilation CD); while they¹ve also toured with pioneering electro legend John Foxx.. It’s a sometimes exasperating combination that goes a long way towards explaining why they’ve only managed to release four discs in ten years. Still, their output is well worth the wait, as is evident from these tracks. The band is currently working on its fifth album, tentatively titled Project Phoenix. Already this year they’ve played live at big dance events such as Whirl-y-gig, Synergy and the Sunrise festival whilst also making their debut at ultra cool London club Being Boiled (run by Mute band Client) and have some cool shows coming up. By fusing electronics with uniquely powerful female vocals, Mono Chrome creates danceable, yet dark electronic music. Their strong emotional and melodic components reach beyond the norm of “female fronted “ electronic bands. Mono Chrome’s full-length release, “Collapse and Sever” was released world-wide on August 10th 2004 by Cryonica Music in Europe and Metropolis Records in North America. The follow-up release tentatively titled “Hopeminus” is in the works and represent a shift from the dancier work on Collapse and Sever towards song-oriented soundscapes and organic rhythms. As already accomplished and established artist receiving international radio and club play, Mono Chrome hopes to build on the already intense response to their work and cross the boundaries of genre and scene; drawing influences from styles ranging from rock to trip hop to synthpop. Octolab are the newest signing to Cryonica and are based in Gothenburg, Sweden. Originally, Octolab took form as a side project, but they soon realized that the chemistry between the two band members was perfect. In middle of 2005 Octolab transformed into a real band and their first song TV spell was recorded. This track was featured on the Cryonica Tanz v.4 compilation, then Octolab contributed an amazing cover version of the Depeche Mode track “Fools” for the “Bright Lights, Dark Room”, Depeche Mode Tribute album. They are currently working hard on completing their debut album, due for release in 2008.
