Jeff K.’s ‘Remington 700 Target Rifle’
I wanted a rifle that I could use for Long Range matches,
leaning towards F-Class . I acquired a Remington 700
Long Action that had already been Blueprinted. After
discussing cartridge options, with Derrick, I ordered
a barrel from Krieger in 6.5mm with the intent
to chamber the 6.5-06 cartridge. Part way through the
build, Derrick suggested setting the rifle up for a quick
change barrel. I ordered a Douglas Barrel in .308 Cal
with the intent of having a 7.62mm option for FTR
matches. The barrels can easily be swapped, at the
range, using a wrench.
With Derrick and Accuracy Speaks:
• I learned how to use a Boring Head to cut down a bolt handle, cut threads ,
install a custom knob, and finish it with proper filing techniques.
• I learned how to use a lathe to contour a barrel.
• I learned how to use a lathe to thread a barrel to match a receiver.
• I learned how to use a lathe to chamber and head space a barrel.
• I learned how to thread a barrel on a lathe and install a muzzle brake.
• I learned how to use a belt sander and fixture to polish a barrel.
• I learned how to fix cosmetic errors in metal and how to airbrush metal.
• I learned how to rebuild and adjust a factory Remington trigger.
• I learned how to convert an ADL rifle to a BDL configuration.
• I learned how to use a collimator to bore sight a scope.
• I learned how to load custom bullets for my rifle and how to find an accuracy load for
each caliber.
