hands on C2 SHORT SHIFT FITMENT FANCY A SHORT SHIFT KIT FOR YOUR C2? FOR YEARS THERE HASN’T BEEN ANYTHING, BUT NOW THANKS TO CONSTELLA THERE IS! HERE’S THE LOW DOWN ON HOW TO FIT IT. Place the first part of the quickshift over the ball joint on your selector and press down flush. Secure it by inserting the 4mm bolt from left hand side and tightening with your screwdriver; also tighten the locking nut on the right hand side. 6 See our editorial disclaimer on p4 T TO FIT, YOU WILL NEED: • A jack • A 13 mm Sockets • A Copper Mallet • A wheel brace • A torch • A Phillips screwdriver • A 7mm spanner • A 4mm punch Remove the nearside road wheel to allow access to the rear gear selector. Knock out the roll pin, again this may be fiddly; you will need to use an extension bar, punch and a hammer to knock it out. Don’t lose the roll pin! You will need to re insert this later. 8 Remover the rear gear selector and re-install the new rear quickshift bracket where the gear selector was, before reinserting the roll pin, and replacing the road wheel, ensuring everything is on tightly and securely. ■ WORDS & PICS: STEPH SEATON he Citroën C2 is quickly becoming popular as one of the more modern French hatches to modify, and with plenty of engine goodies to be getting on with we figured it’s time to give you one of the most popular and sought after transmission upgrades for any car – a quickshift. Not only does this quickshift reduce your forward to backwards throw it also reduces the side to side movement in the gear stick, whilst still retaining the original gear lever. Machined from billet aluminium, and requiring no special tools – just a couple of sockets – it’s incredibly easy to fit, even with only a basic knowledge of an engine bay! ■ 5 4 7 Re fit the linkage cables, by pressing down onto the ball joints. 2 Install the new link rod that is in your kit to the counter weight, making sure the external securing clip is on, and reinstall the counterweight back to its original position. Tighten the bolt and attach the other end of the linkage rod onto the front gear selector in the same way as you did to the counterweight. Test out the gear change movement. If you find the side to side too tight or too long, then adjust the ball joint on the rear selector to suit. To adjust simply remove the linkage cable, loosen the ball joint with a 13 mm spanner, slide it into the correct position. Move the ball joint to the top of the slot to make the throw longer and the bottom for a shorter throw. Secure the ball joint in place, reassemble and test until you are happy! You can then refit your filter and enjoy your new quickshift! C O N TA C T CONSTELLA Want a kit? Then contact Constella at www.constella.co.uk or call 01509 507341 1 Next remove the 13mm counterweight bolt and counterweight. Please note that these are opposite sides on the GT and VTS! OWNER’S COMMENT – MATT STILL, CAMBRIDGE 3 First off you need to remove the airbox, or filter, whichever you have, to allow access to where we need to be. Then you need to remove the linkage rod which connects the counter balance weight to the selector. You can do this easily by using a pry bar under one end of the linkage. 34 PERFORMANCE frenchcars Remove the linkage cables by pressing the little orange tabs inwards, before pulling the cable end upwards. Be careful as they are fragile and it is a little fiddly. You need to remove both linkage cables in the same way. JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2012 The quickshift is most certainly ‘Quick’! On the way home after the fitting I was on motorway most of the journey and thought to myself, “this isn’t testing! Im sat in my Top Gear!” So I took the next exit and hit the back roads... WOW! It’s so responsive and Rob set it up perfectly. The first thing I did when I got home was have a closer look at the main parts. Not only does the throw from front to JANUARY/FEBRUARY 2012 back shorten but they have made the throw from left to right shorter too, and what’s even better is that it is adjustable! So it really does suit any driver’s needs. Naturally I had a little play and made the throw a bit shorter and took it out for a blast. This setup is ideal if I were out out on track for the day, but my car IS my daily drive too so within 5 mins it was back to how Rob set it for me. It is such a simple piece of kit to fit and to adjust which is great for when I do hit the track - I can just set the throw shorter and BOOM! Fun times to be had! I can see this being a very big success with all C2 drivers out there! Thank You Constella! PERFORMANCE frenchcars 35
