Deep South Bayou Duals Returns
to the Mats Again this December
The Third Annual Deep South Bayou Duals high school
wrestling tournament is set to hit the mats on December 29
and 30 at LSU’s Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. Two full days of
action packed high school wrestling will allow athletes from
all over the country an opportunity to face a variety of
opponents. This year’s tournament will include 48 teams
from 11 different states from California to New York.
The Deep South Bayou Duals tournament was started in
2009 by Brusly High School with the help of the Baton
Rouge Area Sports Foundation. The tournament was
created to bring a competitive, multi-state duals format
high school wrestling tournament to Baton Rouge. After
two very successful tournaments in 2009 and 2010, the
Deep South Bayou Duals has become one of the nation’s
premier dual meet wrestling tournaments.
The tournament will begin with weigh-ins at 8 a.m. on both
days with wrestling action immediately following at 9 a.m.
Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students. For more
information on the tournament, please visit the

Recent Event Recaps
Battlefield Five Miler
October 15, 2011
The Battlefield Five Miler was the final race in the 2011 Forge Trail
Series, which consisted of four trail races that take took place
throughout the year at various locations around the state. This
particular event took place in Port Hudson, La. at the Port Hudson Civil
War site. According to those who participated, the scenery for the race
was nothing short of beautiful, with fog covering the course before the
start. To go along with the theme, the race started with a shot from one
of the historic Civil War cannons that were on location. Although the
course only stretched out to four miles rather than five, everyone who ran have an enjoyable experience
running this challenging course. The top male finisher was Sean Fitzwilliam with a time of 23:21 and the top
female finish was Sarah Skotty with a time of 27:07.
United Cup XXVI
October 15-16, 2011
The United Cup’s purpose is to foster and advance the highest level of competitive
soccer while promoting the ideals of good sportsmanship, honesty, loyalty and
courage. This was most certainly the case in the 2011 United Cup, conducted by the
Baton Rouge Soccer Association. 185 premier teams from U-10 to U-19 competed in a
very successful tournament. Congratulations goes out to everyone involved with
putting on the event for making it such a successful one, as well as all of the young
athletes who participated!
