Take I-99 North/US-220 North then take Exit 76 (Shiloh Road).
Turn left onto PA 150 North (Benner Pike) then travel to 1044

From Williamsport (1 hour/53 miles)
Take US-220 South to I-80 West/US-220 South then exit 161
(Bellefonte/State College). Merge onto US 220 South/Route 150
South and progress to 1044 Benner Pike, State College (Metzger
Animal Hospital) on the left.
From Dubois (1 hour 15 minutes/69 miles)
Take I-80 East to I-99/220 South via exit 161 then take Route 150
South via exit 78 and progress to 1044 Benner Pike, State College

Take 322 West to the exit marked PA Route 26 towards State

Fred Metzger DVM,
Diplomate ABVP
Dr. Fred Metzger received his
Bachelor of Science degree in Animal
Bioscience from Penn State University
in 1981 and graduated with honors
from the Purdue College of Veterinary
Medicine in 1986.
Dr. Metzger is a Diplomate of the
American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, a select group
of veterinary specialists certified by the American Board of
Veterinary Specialists. He is one of only 9 board-certified
ABVP practitioners in the state of Pennsylvania and one of 460
worldwide.
Dr. Metzger currently serves as an adjunct professor at Penn
State University and helps teach several classes. In addition,
he frequently lectures to veterinarians worldwide speaking on
various topics, including clinical pathology, internal medicine
and his favorite subject, geriatric medicine. He has authored
numerous publications including co-authoring a textbook “A
Guide to Hematology of the Dog and Cat”.
Dr. Metzger is a native of Centre County and resides in
Pennsylvania Furnace with his 2 rescue dogs Zildjian and Sophie. Dr. Metzger enjoys playing drums and being manipulated
by his dogs.
John Griffiths DVM
Dr. Griffiths graduated with a
Bachelor of Science degree in both
Biology and English from Neumann
University in 1991 and earned his
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in
1996 from Kansas State University.
Dr. Griffiths is originally from
Wichita, Kansas and after graduating
from Kansas State University moved to Huntingdon County
where he practiced small animal medicine. Dr. Griffiths joined
Metzger Animal Hospital in 2000 and his special medical
interests include emergency medicine, diagnostic imaging,
feline medicine and advanced veterinary dentistry. Dr. Griffiths
attends advanced continuing education in veterinary emergency
and critical care medicine and is committed to helping people
and their pets anytime day or night.
Dr. Griffiths, wife Laurie, daughter Claire and son Dominic
reside in State College with their cat Smoosh. Dr. Griffiths’
outside interests include writing, basketball, and riding roller
coasters. Prior to veterinary school John worked at Boeing as a
licensed electrician and spent six years as a proud member of
the United States Marine Corps.
Bob Rider DVM, CCRT
Dr. Bob Rider received his Bachelor
of Science degree in Dairy and Animal
Science from Penn State University
in 1991 and graduated with honors
from the Purdue College of Veterinary
Medicine in 1995.
Dr. Rider has been elected to
several honor societies, including Alpha
Zeta, Phi Kappa Phi, Phi Zeta and Gamma Sigma Delta. Dr.
Rider has completed certification as a canine rehabilitation
therapist and is the director of the Metzger Animal Hospital
Rehabilitation Center.
Dr. Rider performs many complicated surgical procedures
including: fracture repair (bone plating, interlocking nail, and
external fixation), joint stabilization procedures (TPLO, TTA,
Tightrope), neurosurgery (spinal stabilization and intervertebral
disk decompression), arthroscopic surgery of joints (stifle,
shoulder, elbow), as well as a wide variety of soft tissue and
laparoscopic procedures. Dr. Rider is certified in Stem Cell
Therapy which he performs at the hospital.
Dr. Rider is a native of Centre County and resides in
Gatesburg with his wife Jenn, son Ben, daughter Evelyn, dog
Morgan and cat Cleo. Shelly Mannino VMD
Dr. Shelly Mannino received her
Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition
Science from Penn State University
in 1993. Dr. Mannino is a native of
St. Marys, Pennsylvania and prior to
attending veterinary school, worked
as a nutrition researcher at Penn State
studying childhood obesity and its
effects on health. She graduated with honors from the University
of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine earning her
Veterinary Medical Degree in 2008 then practiced small animal
medicine and surgery in State College for two years before
joining Metzger Animal Hospital in 2010. Dr. Mannino has
a special interest in feline internal medicine, endocrinology,
clinical pathology, preventative medicine and shelter medicine.
Dr. Mannino resides in Gatesburg with her husband, Joe,
two golden retrievers (Nate and Sam) and her cat Tony. In her
free time Dr. Mannino enjoys gardening, reading, and outdoor
activities.

Mark Koshko DVM,
Diplomate ABVP
Dr. Mark Koshko received his
Bachelor of Science degree in Biology
from the California University of
Pennsylvania and earned his Doctor of
Veterinary Medicine degree from the
Purdue University College of Veterinary
Medicine in 2003.
Dr. Koshko is a Diplomate of the American Board of
Veterinary Practitioners, a select group of veterinary specialists
certified by the American Board of Veterinary Specialists. He is
one of only 9 board-certified ABVP practitioners in the state of
Pennsylvania and one of 460 worldwide.
Dr. Koshko received intensive training in advanced
laparoscopic surgery and cardiac and abdominal ultrasound.
He also has been published several times for his work on
Canine Cushing’s syndrome.
Dr. Koshko is a native of Centre County and resides in Port
Matilda with his wife Kristen, daughters Madison and Olivia,
and their rescue dog, Sadie. Medical interests include internal
medicine, ultrasonography, advanced laparoscopic surgery,
and clinical pathology. In his free time, Mark enjoys flying
airplanes, mountain biking and spending time with his family.
Sean Jennett DVM
Dr. Sean Jennett received his Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology
at the University of Texas El Paso and
in 1999 earned his Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine degree from the Colorado
State University College of Veterinary
Medicine. He also completed an
internship in small animal medicine
and surgery at The Metroplex Veterinary Centre in Dallas,
Texas.
Dr. Jennett practiced emergency and critical care
medicine at The Animal Emergency Hospital of North Texas
for 12 years before joining Metzger Animal Hospital in
2011. At The Animal Emergency Hospital of North Texas he
provided emergency and critical care services for several
specialty practices including: the Dallas Veterinary Surgical
Center, Veterinary Medicine Specialists of Dallas/Fort Worth
and the Animal Ophthalmology Clinic. His interests include
emergency medicine, ophthalmology, cardiology, ultrasound
and internal medicine.
Sean lives in Aaoronsburg with his wife Hope, daughter
Margaret, son RJ and several rescue dogs and cats. Dr. Jennett
understands that emergencies happen at inconvenient hours
including late nights and welcomes any opportunity to help
his patients anytime he’s needed.
