WELCOME TO TUCSON
Tucson is located in the southeast part of Arizona on the Santa
Cruz river and is the second largest city in the state. Tucson was
originally settled by the prehistoric Hohokam Indians and is
named after “Stjukshon,” meaning “village of the dark spring at
the foot of the mountain.
Tucson gets 350 days of sunshine annually- more than any other
city- and is currounded by the world’s largest concentrations of
Suguaro cactus.
Tucson's rich cultural heritage centers around a unique blend of
Native American, Spanish, Mexican and Anglo-American
influences. These can be seen in the Hispanic barrios, historical
and contemporary American architecture and the prehistoric
Native American remnants.
Tucson was referred to as a "mini-mecca for the arts” by The
Wall Street Journal and in 2009 was ranked #20 of the Top 25
Arts Destinations (big-cities category) by American Style
Magazine.

Sunday, February 28th
2:00 pm – 6:00 pm: Jeep Rally and Margarita Bar at Tanque Verde Ranch (OPTIONAL)
This tour is OPTIONAL and the cost to participate is $155 per person.
CFA will invoice all registrants for their participation
On a desert rally, each Jeep forms a team to navigate the trail, answer desert trivia questions, find fool’s gold and other
artifacts, and compete in such events as archery, roping and horseshoe pitching, while attempting to keep an average
time and find the trail boss at the finish line. See the natural wonders of the Sonora Desert accessible only by a four wheel
open air Jeep. The jeep continues until all clues are solved and all desert items are found. Following the rally will be a stop at
the Margarita Bar to celebrate your team’s success.
6:00 pm – 9:30 pm Mill Dinner, Tanque Verde Ranch
Join us for an outdoor reception and then dinner at the fabulous Tanque Verde Ranch.
Choose from Grilled Sirloin or Grilled Salmon for dinner

12:00 pm CFA Official Tour: Biosphere 2 (meet in the hotel lobby at 11:45am)
Join us for our CFA official tour of Biosphere 2, one of the world’s most unique facilities dedicated to the research and
understanding of global scientific issues. The Biosphere 2 facility serves as a laboratory for controlled scientific studies, an
arena for scientific discovery and discussion, and a far-reaching provider of public education. Its mission is to serve as a
center for research, outreach, teaching, and life-long learning about Earth, its living systems, and its place in the universe; to
catalyze interdisciplinary thinking and understanding about Earth and its future; to be an adaptive tool for Earth education
and outreach to industry, government, and the public; and to distil issues related to Earth systems planning and
management for use by policymakers, students and the public. CFA will provide transportation to and from the Biosphere.
We will most likely have a tour of the Biosphere from the architect and the fabricator. MORE DETAILS TO FOLLOW

Peer Group Meeting
The Peer Group meeting day and time are yet to be determined.
They will meet and discuss a pre-determined topic. Peer Group meetings are restricted to
committed participants only.

Built in the 1700s, this recently restored white adobe church, representing a wonderful example of Spanish colonial
architecture, is beautiful inside and out, with colorful frescoes, sculptures and carvings.

The Tucson International Airport is a public joint civil-military airport owned by the City of Tucson 8 miles south of downtown
Tucson. It is the second busiest airport in Arizona and is in close proximity to Interstate 10 and I-19, which is the gateway to
Mexico. The Airport offers car rentals, shuttles, limos, and taxis located outside of baggage claim area, and buses located
immediately west of the terminal on the Departures Roadway.
