The last 19 years have been very successful and the event continues to grow in popularity. The event has been well supported by the local community, athletes and volunteers. This year the Shropshire entries and the Relays have been sponsored by Fabdec. The race is run under B.T.F. rules. Please read all the information carefully. REGISTRATION Ellesmere Town Hall, 1-3 Willow Street, Ellesmere, Shropshire. SY12 0AL Registration will take place at Ellesmere Town Hall from 4.00pm until 7.00pm on Saturday 23rd June and from 7.00am until 9.00am Sunday morning 24th June, 2012. Please note registration will close promptly at 9.00am on Race day. Large notice boards with the event details and any ‘on-the-day’ information will be sited at this registration point. It is the responsibility of the competitor to familiarise themselves with the event rules, times and routes. Please note there will be no entries allowed on the day of the event. Do not give your entry to someone else – please inform the organisers if you are unable to compete. If you have a current BTF licence, please bring it with you ready to show at registration on the day. Failure to produce a BTF license will mean a day licence will need to be issued at an additional cost of £5. For Non-BTF members day licences will be issued at registration to ensure you are properly insured. There will be no additional cost as this has been included in your entry fee. You will be issued with your race numbers, swim cap, timing chip, safety pins, bike wire/number and your food voucher. Numbering of arm, thigh and calf will take place at the Town Hall during registration on the Sunday or from 8.00am at the Information Tent adjacent to the Mere. RACE DAY TIMETABLE 08.00am 10.00am 10.30am 11.00am 15.30pm Transition Area OPEN RACE BRIEFING over P.A. System adjacent to Transition Area Transition Area CLOSED 1st Wave of swimmers PRESENTATION (by Finish Area) Non Drafting This race is a non-drafting race for all categories meaning competitors are not allowed to take shelter behind or beside another competitor or motor vehicle during the cycling section of the race TRANSITION AREA (see map) As previously indicated the transition will be open at the following times only: 08.00am Transition Area OPEN 10.30am Transition Area CLOSED 11.00am START OF RACE Only triathletes will be allowed in the Transition Area in addition to Security Staff and Official Referees. In order to access the Transition Area, competitors must show both bike & vest numbers. When leaving the Transition Area, bike numbers and timing chips must be given in at the dedicated desk by the Exit. NB Athletes will not be able to remove their bikes until the last competitor has begun the Run Section. SWIM ROUTE (see map) The Mere, Ellesmere. 1500m Diamond shaped course All competitors to be ready at the landing stage, 10 minutes before their allotted swim start time. The start will be staggered with waves of swimmers at 5 minute intervals. The water temperature is likely to be between 14c and 15c. Use of goggles is strongly recommended. Competitors must wear wetsuits and swim caps unless prior permission has been sought otherwise. This will only be allowed if medical advice has been provided. The start will be signalled by an Acoustic Horn. Swimmers may not warm up by swimming in front of the start line. In an emergency during the swim, the competitor should raise one arm vertically above the water and/or call for assistance from the venue personnel. No competitor shall continue who is, in the opinion of the official, unfit to do so. The course will be patrolled by safety boats, divers and canoes. The 1500m swim course will be marked by buoys and swimmers will swim in an anti-clockwise direction around the course. Any competitor seen by the official to be receiving assistance or swimming less than the marked course, will be disqualified from the whole event. CYCLE ROUTE 40km (see map) All bikes/helmets must be roadworthy. Spot checks may be made on condition and roadworthiness of your bike/helmet. You may also be required to complete a self-certificate of checks you have personally carried out. Please check BTF rules and comply. All bikes to be racked up between 08.00am and 10.30am after which the Transition Area will be cleared. Competitors must use the cycle racks provided by the organisers corresponding with their race numbers. ONLY COMPETITORS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE TRANSITION AREA IN ADDITION TO SECURITY STAFF AND OFFICIAL REFEREES. Competitors should wear their event numbers on the front and back of their running vest – if wearing a race belt, competitors MUST ensure their race number is fully displayed to avoid penalty or disqualification. There are cycling recording stations at Redbrook and Overton. The route will start and finish at the Transition Area at the Mere and will be sign-posted and marshalled. Competitors should not mount their bikes until clear of the Transition Area and have passed the “Cycle Transition Out” sign and will dismount before entering the Transition Area on their return by the “Cycle Transition In” sign. All competitors are advised that normal road safety regulations must be obeyed as the event will take place on open public highways. There are difficult climbs/descents at 1 mile, 14 miles and 16 miles. Cycle Route Profile RUN ROUTE The route will start and finish at the Transition Area by the landing stage. It will be sign-posted and marshalled. It is an “Out and Back” route Runners must keep to the left at all times. There will be drinks stations at the start of the run, mid-way and at the finish. Competitors should wear their event numbers on the front and back of their running vest – if wearing a race belt, competitors MUST ensure their race number is fully displayed to avoid penalty or disqualification. Run Route Profile OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATION, CHANGING, SHOWERING AND TOILETS Camping is available at the Lakelands Sports Centre, Oswestry Road, Ellesmere. The Sports Centre will be open on Saturday 23rd June and Sunday 24th June 2012. From 9.00am until 5.00pm . Showers and changing facilities will be provided free of charge to competitors and partners. Other facilities can be booked directly by telephoning the Lakelands Sports Centre on 01691 622543. CAR PARKING All competitors are asked to use CAR PARKS 1, 2, 3 (see map), these car parks are free. Alternative car parks in and around the town operate a “pay and display” system. CATERING On Race Day there will be caterers situated adjacent to the Finish Area. All athletes will be issued with a Food voucher which can be redeemed only at the appropriate catering outlet which will be displayed adjacent to the finish area. TRADERS There will be Triathlon Traders on site plus various stalls and displays. MAXIMUM TIME ALLOWANCE The organisers reserve the right to withdraw competitors if they go beyond the following maximum times: Swim 1 hour Cycle 1 hour 45 minutes Run 1 hour The route will only be marshalled for 3 hours 45 minutes.
