Apart from many further summits, charming mountain huts around
the lake invite you to hike up for your lunch. Moreover, the Sutten
chairlifts near Rottach-Egern put the hiking paradise between Lakes Tegernsee and Spitzingsee within easy reach – including many

Mt. Taubenstein (1,693 m).

SWIMMING
When the days get warmer, Lake Tegernsee delights with its cool
and crystal-clear waters. Quiet, relaxation, a shady spot under
trees and a dip in the lake, all this awaits guests at Bad Wiessee’s
lake lidos. Particularly family-friendly are the shallow shores and
sunbathing lawns of Seeglas and Kaltenbrunn in Gmund.
Rottach-Egern boasts beautiful meadows along its lakeshore promenade between Überfahrt and Ringsee, inviting you to sunbathe
or deep dive. Main attraction for young and old lovers of a swim
has always been the Popperwiese meadow. Those looking for an
option that is both stylish and comfortable will enjoy the cosy
deckchairs and sunshades of the Ringseebad lido. For an authentic
beach experience, try the “Point”, Tegernsee’s sandy bay. Teenagers
love its Mediterranean feel and the beach volleyball courts.

Eat & Drink
When it comes to food, the Tegernsee Valley guarantees both diversity and the highest quality. Explore many charming inns along
the lakeshore as well as in the wider region and taste the best Bavarian cuisine has to offer.
Gourmet fare meets traditional Bavarian Gemütlichkeit – a combination equally favoured by locals and visitors. Some culinary tips to
get you started:
BRÄUSTÜBERL BEER HALL TEGERNSEE
In 1817, Bavarian King Max I. Joseph acquired the Benedictine
monastery and brewery from the Baron of Drechsel. Today, the
brewery belongs to the House of Wittelsbach and is run by the
Duchess Maria Anna, a daughter of Bavarian Duke Max – and its
beers are famous across Germany.
Tegernseer Hell is in fact a little piece of heaven: the German word
hell denotes a light-coloured lager. Also popular is the export brand
Tegernsee Spezial. The ducal brewery recently celebrated its 333rd
year. A visit to this ancient vault with its historic murals and lively
chatter among local farmers, beer enthusiasts, mountain bikers,
traditionalists and celebrities is a must during your stay. Schlossplatz 1, Tegernsee, tel 08022/4141, www.braustuberl.de

TEGERNSSERLAND Cheese Diary
The organic cheese diary of TegernseerLand value nature’s purest
produce, and milk most of all. Their philosophy is as simple as it is
grand: whenever it says Tegernsee on the label, that’s supposed to
be what’s inside – unadulterated. As a result, the many dairy farmers of the region who feed their livestock purely on local grass,
hay and cereals have come together to market their organic products under one trustworthy label.
Since opening its gates in the summer of 2010, the dairy has received many visitors. Drop in yourself to witness the production process from milk to cheese, sample some cheeses yourself and shop
at the site. Opening hours: daily from 9 am to 6 pm, Nov. – Febr.

GETTING THERE
The Tegernsee Holiday Region with its idyllic towns surrounded by
breathtaking landscapes is situated in scenic Upper Bavaria, at the
foot of the Alps, only 50 km south of Munich.
By car:
From the north: take the motorway A8 Munich-Salzburg to the exit
Holzkirchen, then follow signs to Tegernsee on the B318/B307. From
the south: coming from Innsbruck (Austria), travel northward through
the Inn Valley on local roads or on the motorway (Inntalautobahn,
leaving it at Wiesing exit), then via Lake Achensee and the B307. Coming from Salzburg (Austria), follow the motorway A8 Salzburg-Munich to the exit Irschenberg, then follow the signs to Tegernsee.
By Train
Numerous long-distance trains from all over Germany and Europe arrive at Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) every day.
Hourly BOB (Bayerische Oberlandbahn) trains leave from there for
Gmund or Tegernsee, whence onward transport by bus (free with
your guest card) or taxi is available. Make sure you buy and validate your BOB ticket in advance and that your train carriage displays
Tegernsee as its destination. www.bahn.de, www.rvo-bus.de,
www.bayerische-oberlandbahn.de
By plane
Munich airport is located a one and a half hour’s drive (90 km)
from Lake Tegernsee, and you can easily rent a car from there. Alternatively, catch a suburban train (S1 or S8) or the airport shuttle
bus to Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof), where you can then
take either the RVO bus (from Arnulfstraße) or the BOB train to
Gmund and Tegernsee (see above). www.munich-airport.de

Bavarian hospitality at its best
DAS TEGERNSEE | beer garden
Enjoy a refreshing drink and some traditional, home-cooked food as
you take in the breath-taking views of the Tegernsee and Bavarian Alps.
Our varied menu features typical Bavarian cuisine and delicious regional
specialities. From the terrace, our children’s play area is in clear view – so
parents can relax while the children amuse themselves. Between May and
October, the beer garden is open from 11 a.m. daily.
Beer garden ambience – high above the Tegernsee
Our beer garden plays host to a range of events for you to look forward to.
Weather permitting, our popular Sunday Jazz Brunch takes place every week
between 11a.m. and 3p.m. For more information about our programme, visit
our website at www.dastegernsee.de
