Oklahoma City Edition

July 2012
Letter from President
We all love and learn from a good Firm Night and we
weren’t disappointed last month when Ramona Carey
and SSM Health Care hosted us in its new medical
plaza and conference center. I think everyone who
took one of the eye-opening tours was impressed with
the level of service and attention St. Anthony gives to
patients under its care. Ramona’s executive, Joe
Hodges, told us the interesting history of St. Anthony,
and then gave us a look forward at the tremendous
future growth planned. We should all take great pride in our member firm
and feel very secure knowing about the quality medical care St. Anthony
provides for our city.
I’m looking forward to our Firm Fair on July 10 at Eskridge Lexus. Not only
will it be a great venue, but it will be a lot of fun to visit and explore all our
firms’ booths. It’s been a couple of years since we’ve had Firm Fair –
make sure your company is represented. Many thanks to Lynn Fielding
and the W&M Committee for all the time and work spent in planning and
preparation.
I hope you have all taken the time to read the information about Texoma
Board Forum in Tulsa, August 3-4, followed by LCAM in Dallas, September
12-15. These conferences are for everyone! Because we can set up
carpools, the cost to attend will be much less than previous years. The
main expenses will be registration and hotel since most of the meals are
included in the registration fee. What a bargain! I encourage you to ask us
any questions you might have about these and check into the possibility of
attending. The opportunity to interact with EWI at the national level at
LCAM and sharing best practices with other chapters near us during
Texoma will bring great personal rewards and help our chapter strengthen
and grow, also.
Here’s a toast to each of you, filled with much appreciation for all you do for
EWI.

Firm Night
SSM Health Care of Oklahoma
June 12, 2012
SSM Health Care hosted us to a wonderful evening in
their new Rapp Foundation Conference Center. The
evening included health screenings, tours of their new
Neuroscience & Spine Center, an awesome meal, and a heart-felt presentation by
Joe Hodges, SSM’s President/CEO, as he took us back to St. Anthony’s beginning,
to the present and then into the future, revealing his passion for SSM Health Care
and their continued service to Oklahoma City.

Dallas, TX – September 12-15, 2012
Online registration is now open for the 2012 Leadership Conference and Annual Meeting
(LCAM) September 12-15 at the beautiful Fairmont Dallas Hotel. Registration of $675 is
available until August 12 but will increase to $700 after that date.
Among other exciting programming, attendees will hear from Vernice "Flygirl" Armour, the
first African-American female combat pilot, and the motivational and hilarious Connie
Podesta.
There is also a “First Time Attendee Orientation” so if you’ve never been, you can meet other
first time attendees and learn what to expect at the conference.
For those of you needing some assistance getting your firm to support sending you to LCAM,
there is even a Justification Toolkit available on the ewiconnect website that has information
that can help you approach your executive regarding attending LCAM. Check it out!
You can view the full “Schedule at a Glance” at www.ewiconnect.com.
Since Dallas is so close, this is a great opportunity for the OKC Chapter to be well
represented at the conference. Attendees can carpool, which will help cut down on expenses.
The conference always has inspiring speakers and informative breakout sessions. You are
sure to come back energized, excited, and ready to share what you learned with your firm.
You will also learn a lot about the EWI organization. So what are you waiting for? Make
plans now to join us in Dallas for LCAM 2012! Use the materials available to you in the
Justification Toolkit and make it easy for your executive to say “yes” to sending you to
LCAM! (Remember, it never hurts to ask! Just be prepared with your justification and be
ready to answer any questions.)
Hope to see you in Dallas!

More From The President …
Over the last few months, people who know I’m active in Toastmasters have asked me
what it’s like and what I think about it; so I thought I’d share just a bit about it here. Judie
Harris is also a Toastmaster and she and I both believe it’s a fun, helpful, and
inspirational way to sharpen speaking & leadership skills. Judie attends a club at Francis
Tuttle and I attend a Club that meets at a Denney’s on Fridays at 7:00 a.m. Without fail,
every Friday for six years, I have driven to work afterwards feeling so glad I made the
extra effort that morning to get up early enough to attend. Maybe it’s because at
Toastmasters, we laugh a lot and encourage each other while learning to be better
presenters; or maybe it’s because we get to hear very interesting speeches on a variety
of topics given by extremely nervous beginners on up to those with years of experience.
For these reasons and more, Judie and I highly recommend that you google a
Toastmasters Club near you and give it a try. If you would like to know more, please feel
free to ask either of us.
