Dear Friends,
Welcome to our 2016 TalkTools Catalog. 2014/2015 was a year dedicated to developing
new resources and making our educational resources more accessible around the world
with the goal of improving the speech clarity and feeding skills of our clients. All of our
programs follow the principals of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) as described by the
American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) as well as The American
Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA).
Our new resources this year include Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson’s Speech Clarity Evaluation
for Therapy Planning video series. This exciting series includes 11 clients with varying
diagnoses and ages. Each video includes 2 full sessions with Sara completing an initial
Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) evaluation with the client and then conducting a follow-up
evaluation with a program plan update four months later.
Our live-course schedule has also continued to increase this past year and has included
courses in over 25 states and 14 countries! We look forward to improving this even more in
2016. If you are interested in hosting a course, please reach out as we would love to talk.
A special congratulation to the 15 therapists that completed our advanced training courses
this year.
Finally, thank you for your continued support of our work here at TalkTools. We look forward
to continuing to provide you with training, techniques and tools to achieve success with
your clients and children.
THANK YOU,
Luke Blessinger, President

SPEECH CLARITY EVALUATION FOR
THERAPY PLANNING:
SARA ROSENFELD-JOHNSON, M.S., CCC-SLP
The latest addition to the TalkTools® Continuing Education library is a
series of 11 new on-demand videos titled, Speech Clarity Evaluation for
Therapy Planning.
Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson has created a program and book using tactile
interventions to improve a) oral preparatory phase feeding skills and b) speech
clarity in teens, young adults and the geriatric population. Activities address
improving chewing, bolus formation and positioning for transport, and speech
clarity. These techniques are valuable when addressing many diagnoses:
dysarthria, apraxia, Parkinson’s disease, Down syndrome, TBI and Cerebral Palsy
as well as voice disorders, post oral cancer surgery, and post CVA. Included in
this book are step-by-step instructions for the “why” and “how”, Initial Program
Plans and numerous case studies.
These new video courses each include an initial Oral Placement Therapy
(OPT) evaluation with a program plan and a four month follow-up
evaluation with a program plan update conducted by TalkTools’ founder,
Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson, MS, CCC-SLP. Each video also contains an
interview with the referring SLP (and OT when applicable) and the parent
of the client. The clients included in this series vary in age and diagnosis.

Lori Overland and Robyn Merkel-Walsh share techniques that they have used
to allow for safe, effective, nutritive feeding for all ages and ability levels. A
Sensory Motor Approach to Feeding walks the clinician through the assessment and treatment of oral sensory motor skill development as a critical
component of addressing feeding disorders. Readers will learn how to identify
a sensory-motor feeding disorder, complete an assessment and write a professional report. Lori and Robyn’s goal was to provide practical techniques to
clinicians and family members alike, with color photos and diagrams to assist
the reader. This color text is a must have in your clinical library.

“I decided to make this video to help you, the parent,
learn what you can do at home to improve your child’s
speech clarity and feeding safety. Over the years, I
have found that parents can become great assets to
their child’s speech language pathologist, once they
understand why they are being asked to perform
certain homework assignments with their child. The
exercises shown in this video are presented in a
hierarchy of very small steps which will ensure that
your child will not only make progress but will have fun doing so. This
video is designed to not only show you what you can do to help your
child, but also explains to you why you are being asked to use specific
straws, horns or bite-tubes. In addition, watching this video will give
you the knowledge you need to become a better advocate for your child,
whether they receive speech therapy through the public school, early
intervention program, clinic, hospital or private practice. Knowledge is a
very powerful tool.”

OPT FOR ASSESSMENT AND
TREATMENT CHECKLIST
This checklist leads you through an Oral Placement Therapy
(OPT) Evaluation and helps formulate a Program Plan. Each
section includes therapy techniques, steps, and Criteria
for Success to master skills needed for standard speech
development and feeding safety. Also includes the “Muscle
Based Articulation Assessment Form” used with any
standardized Articulation Test to identify muscle skills needed to
improve speech clarity.
BY SARA ROSENFELD-JOHNSON, M.S., CCC-SLP
This is the first in a series of programs designed to teach standard speech
sound production using a combination of traditional articulation therapy
in conjunction with Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) activities. It is designed
for clients who need auditory, visual, and tactile information to learn to
use standard /s/ and /z/ in all speech environments. In this DVD, you will
see two assessments, the reports and program plans generated from those
assessments, and view after-therapy video clips.
In this program you will learn how to: 1) perform an evaluation with a client
who evidences an interdental or a lateral lisp; 2) write a complete Oral
Placement/Movement for Feeding and Speech Evaluation; and 3) create and
write a computer generated Report and Program Plan tailored to address
your client’s specific needs. Once this process has been completed, you
will use the 20 lesson plans with associated Homework Sheets and Speech
Practice Sheets to assist you in correcting your client’s interdental or lateral
productions. Each of the 20 lesson plans is divided into four sections: 1)
Sensory, 2) Feeding, 3) Placement/Movement Activities, and 4) Speech.

This self-study course focuses on treatment of clients diagnosed with apraxia of speech and related motor speech disorders.
Many of these clients do not respond to the traditional auditory and visually-based motor speech techniques often because
other coexisting issues, including oral sensory deficits, feeding deficits, and oral placement deficits, are not addressed
making differential diagnosis an important assessment component. This course demonstrates how activities which utilize
a tactile approach (OPT), in conjunction with auditory and visually-based apraxia therapy techniques, can improve speech
clarity in clients diagnosed with apraxia of speech. Additionally, childhood apraxia of speech is defined (along with other
motor impairments), treatment goals including a muscle-based approach, sensory, OPT, and feeding are discussed, and
strategies for implementing a multimodality motor speech program are provided.
DVD Includes: 1 DVD set, 1 course workbook, 1 practicum materials, 1 Apraxia Program ($52 value), and access to 1
Continuing Education test (online).

TRANSITIONING MUSCLE MEMORY INTO SPEECH SOUND PRODUCTION
(0.2 ASHA/AOTA CREDITS)
This course helps therapists transition Oral Placement skills into speech sound production by transitioning muscle
movements into word drills. Early developing phonemes m, b, p, w, h, k, g, t, d, and n and the prerequisite skills needed
for each sound via Oral Placement Therapy (OPT) are outlined. A therapy session demonstration is provided for viewers
to model. This course helps clinicians transition those cues into words and implements a comprehensive tactile approach
