Message from the President
One of the hottest and driest July's on record is over and now we move into the dog days of summer. The July Summer Night was well‐
attended thanks to the efforts of the Fulton Presbyterian Church, Schmaling Public Li‐
brary and The Fulton Masonic Lodge. We are glad that fami‐
lies really seem to enjoy bringing the children down by the windmill area to play games, get outside and have a nice community evening, almost like an old time ice cream social. Thank you for attending. The August Summer Night will be held on August 9th and is sponsored by the Fulton Kiwanis Club and the Fulton Chamber of Commerce. We are lucky once again to have booked Coupe de Ville for a return appearance as well as another popular Car Cruise‐In. Games for the kids are provided for free and include a bounce house, temporary tattoos, a sprinkler, Plinko, Wheel Spin, Pick Up Ducks, Ball Toss and more, I'm sure. The Fulton Meat Market will serve food and Corner Treasures & Treats will serve ice cream, both for a nominal fee. The time is from 6 ‐ 8pm in the Windmill area. So stop down as we once again spend a Thursday Fulton Sum‐
mer Night "Rockin' On The River." Don't forget your lawn chair! In case of inclement weather, Fulton Sum‐
mer Nights will be held at the Fulton High School West Gym. The annual Lincoln Buy‐Way Sales event will be held Friday & Saturday, August 10 & 11. Fulton joins other communities along Lincoln Highway to participate in the city‐wide yard/garage sales or sidewalk sales. For more information contact the Chamber office or look else‐
where in this newsletter. If you are not into “saleing”, then get out of the way. Our city will be buzzing with bargain hunters on these two days and here is another event that not only serves our citizens, but brings in people from out of town to do a little shopping. Please do be careful and watchful of all the traffic in town. Plans are being made for Fall Festival which this year will be held on the 1st Saturday in October (October 6th) in downtown Fulton. Fall Festival seems to grow and grow every year and new activities are being added to help attract even more people to attend. I think we would like to increase the number of vendors and craf‐
ters and some different kind of entertainment as well. So if you vend, craft or entertain let us know. If any of our Chamber members would like to get involved in planning and helping out contact Heather at the Cham‐
ber office. More detailed information can be found elsewhere in this month’s newsletter on all of the upcoming activi‐
ties here in Fulton. Again, thank you to all of the volun‐
teers here in this city who make us click. We are very fortunate to have you give up your time to help make Fulton a more enjoyable city to live in. Have a great month! Greg Naftzger, Chamber President Northwest IL Business Resource Center
A grant from the USDA Rural Development Office has been awarded to Tri‐County Economic Development Alliance (TCEDA) to assist with developing a Northwest IL Business Resource Center (NWILBRC). The NWILBRC was established in response to business survey results that indicated a serious need for convenient and personalized small business training and support services. Still in the development stage, the Center of‐
fers northwest Illinois businesses a support opportunity that hasn't existed previously, and may not be avail‐
able again. NWILBRC services will include small business training, board governance training, mentoring, leadership facilitation, and an entrepreneur incubator. Various classes will be offered at The Campbell Center (Mt. Carroll) as well as future online classes and webinars. For more information about the resource center and upcoming classes, visit www.nwilbrc.com. Page 3

New Welcome Signs
Have you spotted the new welcome signs? Fulton has four new welcome signs located at 10th Avenue & Highway 84, US Route 30 & Highway 84, the north bridge approach, and along Highway 136 near Shell Gas Station. The signs were sponsored by the Fulton Chamber of Commerce, Bosma Renkes‐Funeral Homes and an anonymous donor. The signs were created by Visual Imaging, Inc. Chamber volunteers keep the signs up‐
dated with upcoming events. Thank you to Bosma‐Renkes Funeral Homes and our anonymous donor (you know who you are) for supporting the project. Chamber President Greg Naftzger and Jim Bosma, Bosma‐Renkes Funeral Homes, stand next to one of the new welcome signs. Summer Night Series
The final Fulton Summer Night Event of 2012 will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2012, near the windmill area from 6pm to 8pm. The August 9 event is sponsored by the Fulton Chamber of Commerce and Fulton Kiwanis Club. Activities for the evening include a classic car cruise‐in, concert by Coupe De Ville, a bounce house, sprinkler and several games. Food will be provided for a nominal charge by the Fulton Meat Market and Corner Treasures & Treats. The event is free. Classic car participants are asked to park along 1st Street between 9th Avenue and 10th Avenue. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at the west gymnasium at Fulton High School. able; attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair. For more information visit www.cityoffulton.us or call 815‐589‐4545. Thank you to our previous organizers: First Reformed Church, Second Reformed Church, Fulton Presbyterian Church, Schmaling Memorial Library and the Fulton Masonic Lodge. Page 5
