Issue 1 - Wayne Township
From the Senior Director Happy New Year Friends! The beginning of a new year is a perfect time to review 2015 and be thankful and grateful for the past year; usually there are areas you are proud of, as well as some areas to improve on. Many people like to think of goals to set for the New Year. A common goal is to try and live a healthier lifestyle. Research supports that moving, stretching and deep breathing provide great benefits for your physical and mental health. Consider our daily exercise classes as a way to incorporate feeling better into your life. There is something for everyone at Wayne Township, and the classes can be adapted for beginners to those more advanced. Try it, you may like it. Beginning Wednesday, January 27 at 9:00am, you can attend official Weight Watcher meetings at the Center ! Weight Watcher s has offer ed Wayne Township a 20% discount on a 17 week program. Let’s get healthier together! Please look inside for more information. A goal of mine is to Live in the Moment. It is easy to let yourself worry about things in the future that you have no control over. That is a waste of energy. Enjoy the moment, right here, right now, and make it the best you can. I wish you all a healthy, happy New Year. We look forward to seeing you at Wayne Township. This year’s Annual Town Meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at 7:30pm. It is a great opportunity to connect with your township officials. Senior Freeze Exemption Applications for the Senior Freeze Exemption for the 2016 tax bill, payable in 2017, will be available in April. Applications will be mailed to those who qualified for the exemption for 2015, and will be available in my office for new applicants. The application deadline is October 01, 2016. The Senior Freeze Exemption is available to seniors who will be 65 or older during 2016, who owned and occupied the property on January 01, 2015 and January 01, 2016, with a total 2015 household income of $55,000 or less. To apply, you must provide proof of age and ownership (see above) and complete an application itemizing your 2015 total household income. For assistance in completing the application, please bring your 2015 S.S.A.-1099 and U.S. 1040 forms, if applicable. Please call my office if you have any questions. Because most assessments in DuPage County increased for 2015, after many years of assessment reductions, those who have continued to qualify for the Freeze Exemption will again begin experiencing tax savings due to this exemption. Senior Citizens Real Estate Tax Deferral Program This program, implemented by the DuPage County Treasurer, allows qualified Seniors to defer their property taxes. The deferred taxes are borrowed against the property’s market value and must be repaid with interest within one year of the sale of the property or the settlement of the estate. To qualify for the Tax Deferral Program for the 2015 tax bill, payable in 2016, you must be age 65 or older by June 01, 2016, and have a total 2015 household income of $55,000 or less. You must also have owned the property (or another qualifying property) for at least the last three years. You must also have no delinquent property taxes or special assessments, and must provide proof of adequate insurance against fire and casualty loss. The application deadline for the Tax Deferral Program is March 01, 2016. For more information please call the Treasurer at (630)407-5900. Financial Assistance Programs We offer programs that provide emergency financial assistance. All programs have eligibility requirements and require proof of certain documents. Assistance provided by appointment only. You may also contact DuPage County Community Services at 630-407-6500 for available resources. Reminder to Florida Property Owners If you own a second home in Florida and are receiving the Senior Citizens and/or Homestead Exemptions on that property, please contact my office to verify that you are not receiving them on your Illinois property, or to request that they be removed. If the Florida taxing authorities discover property owners receiving exemptions on multiple properties, they will remove the Florida exemptions, and seek back taxes for previous years.
