A Message from the Kansas CCIM Chapter President
I am privileged and honored to serve my fourth term as
President of the Kansas CCIM Chapter.
I joined the Kansas CCIM Chapter in the early 90’s
after it evolved out of the Wichita Commercial council,
and quickly joined the entertainment committee. My first
memories include networking events such as the Wichita
Greyhound Park Dinner and the Hidden Lakes Golf Tournament.
We are fortunate enough to have several committee
members willing to donate their time and energy, making
the organization a success. In addition, without the Platinum
Sponsors, our educational and networking events would not
be possible.
Our organization continues to grow and evolve in many
ways.
First, we have become much more involved with the National Chapter in recent years. Notably our chapter has competed and won the Tier 3, Presidents Cup Award the past
three years. The competition with other Chapters around
the country is increasing. This competition compares our
chapter in several categories including education, networking, sponsorship, and charitable events, to name of few. I
would especially like to thank my assistant Kristy GeorgeBiggs, as well as Daryl Crotts, CCIM for the continued hard
work in preparing the competition resumé.
In the past we did not have enough members that had
completed their course work and testing to obtain the CCIM
designation. Now we are approaching 40 CCIM designees
in our Chapter (which does not include Kansas City). We
are pleased to announce that our newest CCIM designees
include Scott Harper and Nick Esterline, both of Landmark
Commercial Real Estate Inc. and Adam Clements of Builders Inc. Also, we have another three candidates completing
resumes at this time and preparing to sit for the Fall Exam.
At the time of this article, locally we have seen an increase in retail activity, strengthening of the industrial sector, and indicators also continue to remain strong for multifamily in the Wichita MSA. With interest rates remaining
low and a large amount of cash on the side-lines, investment
property remains very attractive in Kansas due to the stability and attractive cap rates, compared to the coasts.
Elections are quickly approaching and the Kansas
CCIM Chapter is closely watching the local races and will
be holding lunches and interviews with certain candidates.
Some of the hot issues continue to be 1) Smart Growth, 2)
Private Property Rights and 3) The Storm Water Ordinance.
I want to thank David Leyh, CCIM and Gary Oborny,
CCIM to committing their time and effort to ensuring that
the Storm Water Ordinance is structured in a fashion that
does not further restrict new development. In addition to
the local elections, anticipation is growing as the Presidential
Election nears, to see how the result will affect Commercial
Real Estate and our economy as a whole.
We still have several events this summer and fall which
include a Leasing Mall, Sporting Clays Tournament, Quarterly Luncheon, two education seminars with Commercial
Education credits and the very well attended Christmas
lunch, presenting the annual Lifetime Achievement Award
to a very special individual. Please feel free to contact me
or one of our board members, or visit our web site at www.
chaptersdev.ccim.com/Kansas, if you have interest in attending an upcoming networking or education event. These
events are great opportunities to meet new people and get
involved.
For the second time, the Kansas CCIM Chapter will be
sponsoring a Habitat for Humanity build. We feel blessed
to be a part of a great industry and think it’s important to
use our time and talents to help make a difference in our
community. The build will be taking place September 18th
-October 13th; however, we have designated Friday, October 5th as “CCIM Red Day.” There are so many ways
to get involved in the Habitat build.
From helping with the actual build,
to handling registration or even
providing lunch to the volunteers.
If you’re a member of the chapter
or just want to work alongside
some of our people please contact
us to sign up. We appreciate Austin
Kinzle for coordinating this event
for our chapter.

On November 16, 2010, the City Council adopted a revised Stormwater Management and

(SWAB).
The SWAB membership is made up often (10) members, including one from each of the
following organizations: Wichita Area Builders Association (WABA); Certified Commercial

RiverCity WRAPS; Sedgwick County Public Works; Wichita Public Works & Utilities; Kansas

redevelopment, residential, and commercial construction within the City of Wichita. Regular
meetings are planned to occur quarterly on the second Wednesday of each month at 4:00 pm in
the Board Room on the first floor of City Hall, 455 N. Main. Meetings may be held more
frequently as deemed necessary by the SWAB's chair.
An email was received on January 10,2011 from CCIM, in which your organization selected Mr.
Gary Orbony as your appointee to the Storm water Advisory Board. If this information is still
correct, please submit Mr. Orbony's resume as soon as possible. The first SWAB meeting is
