The Art of Porcelain Flower Making
In nature, no two flowers are alike, and every flower artist at the Lladró company in Valencia,
Spain is clearly aware of this fact. That’s why each porcelain flower that comes from their
hands is also one of a kind. Making porcelain flowers involves a highly delicate and meticulous
labor of love, especially since many Lladró pieces contain hundreds of flowers of the most
varied species and in a wonderful array of colors.
Venetian Fantasy is an Ambitious Creation
Featuring Exuberant Floral Ornamentation
The latest creation in the Lladró High Porcelain collection is Venetian Fantasy.
The source of inspiration for this truly spectacular piece can be found in the
mystery of the famous Venetian masks, the beautiful and sumptuous fancy
dress and the sheer romanticism that surrounds the Carnival in Venice, a
unique festival which can be traced back to the 11th century.

In celebration of the new exhibit at the WMODA, The
Seduction of the Flower, Lladró is sending one of their most
accomplished artists to America to demonstrate the skills
of flower-making. Maria José Bustos López will be in our
gallery during the ICGF, January 30th through February 1st,
demonstrating live and signing all Lladró creations. Maria
has been making flowers at the Lladró workshops for more
than 30 years and has traveled the world showing collectors this magical process. Once again,
Maria is delighted to meet collectors “who share the same passion for Lladró.”

The costume of this mysterious character is borrowed from the fancy dress
worn by Venetians during Carnival. In general, these costumes are originally
from the 17th century and are made with the finest silks and are worn with
an original mask and a sophisticated headdress. In this interpretation, the
traditional three-peaked hat is replaced by a spectacular floral fantasy with
up to eight different varieties of flowers.
Inspired by nature, but with the added creative input of Lladró artists,
the floral exuberance of Venetian Fantasy is such that it is now the most
outstanding floral piece in the Lladró catalog. Flowers are one of Lladró’s
signature elements.
If you are unable to attend the ICGF and would like to own a piece signed by Maria, please
select your favorite Lladró pieces from our catalog or from our website. After the Fair, your
selections will be carefully packed and shipped to you.
Each Lladró piece is made entirely by hand, following a very delicate process
in which the petals are set one by one in order to ensure unique, unrepeatable
creations. Even the very fine stamens, crowned by delicate antenna, as well as
all the little leaves, are also modeled and set by hand.
