E XCIT ING SC U LP TURE Four monumental, multi-media sculptures created to provide viewers with a bugseye v i ew o f fo u r c a r n i vo ro u s p l a nt s. 9’ Dionaea (Venus Flytrap) with identity banner and shipping crate A large scale realistic plant with four heads that clamp shut when the visitor presses a button to activate the mouth of the trap. 10’ Nepenthes (Pitcher Plant) with identity banner and shipping crate Large scale realistic plant. Visitors can walk inside the pitcher. Texture, form, and sound give the visitor the experience of being inside the plant. 6’-12’ Serracenia (Trumpet Plant) (7 pieces) with identity banner and shipping crates Realistic in form and color, hammered aluminum with translucent powdercoating creates interesting play of light and color. Lit from within, these sculptures can also be lighted for dramatic effect at night. 8’ Drosera (Sundew) with identity banner and shipping crate Large-scale realistic plant. Over 500 resin tentacles, lit with fiber optics, undulate and glow for dramatic effect. BANNERS Large Scale Hand Painted Banners (5) 9’ x 6’ pieces One banner introduces the exhibit, and eachmonumental sculpture is accompanied by an identifying banner. Interpretive Banners (8) 9’2” x 4’ 4” with pole pockets Each banner features photographic images of a carnivorous plant species and educational text. C H I LD R EN’S AC TIV ITIES Six freestanding, movable, interactive pieces provide hands-on, playful learning. O R IGINAL AR T WOR K Two large site-specific sculptures were commissioned for exhibition with Savage Gardens at Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. These one-of-a-kind works of art were selected through an open competition by Jean Pitman of the Wexner Center for the Arts, and may be included for an additional fee. Please Do Not Disturb Ceramic, hand-formed glass, aluminum, steel, flocking, sound (MP3 players) 120” high x 120” wide x 96” deep This black and earth-toned ceramic and glass pod form is sculpted in three parts, from which “grow” seven whimsical trumpets, with light green exteriors and hot pink interiors. The sound of snoring is played continuously from speakers inside each trumpet. The sculpture requires electricity and includes the MP3 players and sound files. Datura Hand-formed glass, steel, aluminum, powder coating Variable sizes White, lavender and green glass blossoms and yellow-green pods are mounted on painted steel “vines.” Custom rubber gaskets dampen any impact if handled or bumped by staff and visitors. Datura is made in multiple sections and allows for flexible location and installation.
