Lots of benefits with a single
card. Guests of the village
Oberstdorf will receive the
“Allgäu-Walser-Card” from
their host. The Allgäu-Walser-Card is a free-of-charge
electronic guest pass that
opens the door to numerous
discounts for an even more
carefree and varied holiday.
So the guest card enables
you for example to use
several parking areas in
Oberstdorf for free. You can
find additional information
under the point “Parking” in
our A – Z index.
The summer highs in
Germany’s deep, deep south!
Germany’s southernmost village, themed
“Oberstdorf – the hiking village. Mountain top in
the south!”, shows its extraordinary location as
hiking destination. Not only is Oberstdorf one of
the largest and most attractive Bavarian communities, it also offers a great variety of touristic
facilities and 230 square kilometres of mountains.
Oberstdorf lies within a valley, 815 m above sea
level in the middle of the Alps in the Allgäu.
6
Oberstdorf summary
The village is surrounded by mountains that are
up to 2,600 m high, and the three different
altitudes make Oberstdorf specifically attractive.
A total of 200 km of hiking trails offer a diversified
alpine landscape with routes and tours of every
difficulty: Promenades, which lead for example to
one of Oberstdorf’s seven valleys, offer an incomparable panoramic view over the mountains.
Oberstdorf summary
7
Hikes at different altitudes
In Oberstdorf tourists are able to get closer to the
400 summits around Oberstdorf or even climb
one. Alpine athletes will also find a particular
challenge on a via ferrata. The hiking possibilities
offer unique experiences, for example with hiking
trails around the lake “Freibergsee” and along the
rivers “Trettach” and “Stillach” or with the hike
through the “Breitachklamm”, the deepest canyon
in Middle Europe.
8
Oberstdorf summary
On one of the theme hiking trails guests will learn
about herbs, flowers or mountain cheese production. Hikers enjoy an incomparable panoramic
view of 400 summits when they are on the
mountain “Nebelhorn”. The “Fellhorn” is
Germany’s most beautiful mountain when it
comes to flowers. In early July, when summer
starts and alpine roses are flowering, the whole
mountain turns red.

Location for winter sports
Alpine sports, Nordic sports, hiking
Even during winter, numerous guests come to
Oberstdorf in order to go hiking. 140 km of cleared
trails and panoramic walks on the mountains
“Nebelhorn”, “Fellhorn” and “Söllereck” await
visitors. These hiking trails offer a spectacular view
into the valley as well as on the mountains tops.
124 km of slopes and more than 76 km of cross
country ski trails won’t leave any wish unfulfilled.
Also these slopes were occupied by the athletes of
the FIS World Championships in 2005 and can now
be used for cross country skiing.
In addition, there is the well known two-country
skiing region “Oberstdorf-Kleinwalsertal”. It offers
124 km slopes within five skiing regions. Next to
10 cable cars, 14 chair lifts and 23 T-bars.

Cultural and sportive highlights
Numerous events, adapted to the guests’ desires,
are part of Oberstdorf’s cultural programme.
The “Oberstdorfer Musiksommer” is the biggest
classic music festival in the Allgäu. During July
and August it attracts guests with remarkable
concerts in the valley and on the mountain.
During the “Viehscheid”, tourists will experience
real tradition. The “Viehscheid” takes place on
September 12th and 13th, when the cattle come
down from the mountain after the summer. It is
always celebrated with a great fair.
Two of the sportive highlights are the traditional
beginning of the Four Hills Tournament in ski
jumping and the “Nebelhorn Trophy”, an international figure skating competition.

Oberstdorf
highlights
Cable cars
Whether you prefer hiking in the beautiful area with its clear lakes,
flowery alpine meadows and craggy rocks during summer, skiing
on the glistening snow of the well prepared ski slopes in winter or
simply if you just want to enjoy the stunning landscapes: Oberstdorf offers lots of opportunities for everybody in every season.
Nebelhornbahn
The Nebelhorn is a 2,224 metres high
mountain in the Allgäu Alps in Oberstdorf,
from where you can enjoy an amazing and
breath-taking 400-peak panoramic view.
Summer offers you various high-altitude
hiking trails as well as easy round-trips.
During winter, the Nebelhorn offers 12 km
of diverse slopes, including Germany’s
longest downhill slope and Germany’s only
Super Half-Pipe.
Fellhornbahn
The Fellhorn is 1,949 metres high and
located near the border of Germany and
Austria. The “flower mountain” is known
for its fields of beautiful alpine roses,
which usually bloom in June / July.
A great variety of hiking trails in summer,
more than 20 km ski slopes in winter and
a fun park make the Fellhorn a worth
experience in every season.
Söllereckbahn
The mountain station of the Söllereck is
about 1,358 metres high and is known as
a real family mountain in Oberstdorf.
Both in summer and winter, lots of easy
trails invite families to enjoy the nice area.
In addition the Söllereck offers a great
family-friendly ski resort with 12 downhill
slopes and a fun park.
12
Oberstdorf highlights
Breitachklamm / The gorge
The Breitachklamm, formerly referred to
as the big clamp, is a unique miracle of
nature. Except during the snow melt and
in late autumn, you can walk the trail
almost year-round. Those who have been
in the gorge in summer should come and
see it in winter, when huge icicles make
you feel as if you are in an ice palace.
Erdinger Arena / Ski jump arena
The five jumps of the Erdinger Arena
Oberstdorf are located at the foot of the
Schattenberg. The highest jump is about
125 metres high and is the scene of the
annual Four Hills Tournament. The jump
can be visited year-round, except during
the Four Hills Tournament.
Heini-Klopfer-Skiflugschanze / Ski jump hill
The Heini-Klopfer-Skiflugschanze is
located in the Stillachtal and can be
visited almost year-round. There is
chairlift access from the valley to the
jump-off platform and an inclined
elevator up to the observation deck.
Here you have a wonderful view of the
lake “Freibergsee” and the surrounding
Stillachtal.
Ice rink / Ice sports centre
The ice rink is located beneath the
Erdinger Arena, directly at the Nebelhorn
cable car, and consists of three halls.
Visitors can watch international top
athletes, ice hockey games, short track,
figure skating competitions, curling and
international skating exhibition every day.
And of course you can go ice skating
yourself.
Oberstdorf highlights
13
High rope course
In Oberstdorf there are two different high
rope courses. The one at the Söllereck can
be used by children 6 years and up. There
are 7 different courses with about 6 to
9 elements. The other one, the Skywalk
at the Erdinger Arena offers adrenalin,
action and climbing fun for everyone.
Söllereckrodel / Söllereck alpine coaster
The Söllereckrodel is open almost
year-round. It runs down from the valley
station and brings you up again.
The coaster runs over 850 metres with lots
of built-in curves, jumps and waves.
Bergschau / Heimatmuseum
Interesting exhibits about the wildlife and
flora of the alp region, a relief model of
the entire Allgäuer Alps, typical fragrances
and sounds of the mountains, interactive
history and many other things of interest
are waiting for you at the Bergschau.
The Oberstdorfer Heimatmuseum, the
local history museum, is located in an old
17th century house. More than 30 rooms
of exhibition area offer interesting
information for everybody. For example,
you can see how Josef Schratt made the
largest hiking shoe in the world.
14
Oberstdorf highlights
Oberstdorf Spa / Mud baths / Freiberg lake
In Oberstdorf, in summer as well as
winter, there are different possibilities
to go swimming. During winter, the
Oberstdorf Therme invites you to come
and relax. An indoor pool, a big sauna
area and various offers of different
massages in the spa resort will help you
to recover and get more energy.
During summer, there are 3 more
possibilities to enjoy the cooling water
in Oberstdorf.
First of all, there are two mud baths
(one directly in Oberstdorf near the
Loretto Chapels and the other one in
Reichenbach).
The lake “Freibergsee” is a real mountain
lake which – besides swimming in the
cooling water – offers boat rental and a
sunbathing area.
Golf course
You will find Oberstdorf’s golf course
“striking”, considering it has one of the
most scenic greens in Germany.
Nestled between the Alps and the
stunning surrounding area, the
9-hole-golf course makes up for
one or two bad shots.

15
Tributary
valleys
Trettachtal
Stillachtal
The Trettachtal is one of seven
valleys in Oberstdorf with
many restaurants and several
accommodations. You can take
lots of different hikes along the
river Trettach and it is a starting
point to various mountain hikes.
The Christlessee (916 m), a blue-
greenish lake, is one of the
biggest highlights of the
Trettachtal.
The Stillachtal in the south of
Oberstdorf gets its name from
the river running through the
valley, the Stillach. The beautiful
mountain lake Freibergsee as
well as the Heini-Klopfer-Skiflugschanze and the Fellhorn
cable car are located in this
valley. Einoedsbach, Oberstdorf’s
southernmost settlement with
a great view up to the mountains, is the starting point for
the famous Heilbronner
Höhenweg.
Dietersbachtal
This valley is also called the
Gerstrubertal because the
famous settlement Gerstruben
is located here. This settlement
has one of the oldest houses in
Oberstdorf; about 400–500 years
old.
Traufbachtal
This valley is located in the east
of the Trettachtal. A beautiful
trail takes you to the Trauf
bachalpe, a cosy little alp surrounded by the mountains.
Rappenalptal
The Rappenalptal is on the right
hand side of the Stillachtal.
It is famous to cyclists, because
from here you can cycle over
the Schrofenpass to Austria.
Of course there are also some
beautiful walking and hiking
trails in this valley.
Rohrmoostal
Rohrmoos, the end of the
Rohrmoostal, is about 1,070 m
high. The valley is a real dream
for all hikers and cyclists. Based
on its location, the Rohrmoostal
always has a lot of snow and
therefore it has great cross
country tracks.
Oytal
This valley in the south of
Oberstdorf gets its name from
the river Oybach. Besides
walking and cycling, you can
take a carriage ride through
this beautiful valley. The Oytal
is home to the Oytal Haus, the
Stuibenfall, a gorgeous waterfall and the Käseralpe. Characteristic of the valley are the
“Bergroller”, little scooters
which you can rent at the
Oytalhaus and ride back to the
Nebelhorn cable car station.

Alpine snow
fun on
124 kilometres
of ski slopes
Are you looking for a bright winter’s sun, deep-blue
skies, glistening snow and well prepared ski slopes?
▶ Then Oberstdorf is just the place for you!
46 ski lifts on Fellhorn / Kanzelwand, Nebelhorn, Söllereck and in
neighbouring Kleinwalsertal invite skiers and snowboarders. On a
total of 124 km of alpine ski runs, beginners as well as experts get
their money’s worth.
30
Skiing areas
Whether telemark, carving or freestyle, experience the sheer
exhilaration of winter sports. Thanks to a state-of-the-art snow
machine you’re guaranteed snow all winter long. From midDecember until early May, experience between 815 and
2,224 metres of pure skiing fun.

Simply tri-mendous!
Even snowboarders know that the snowboarding possibilities at
Oberstdorf are no longer a secret. All-round fun is guaranteed in
the steep-sided half-pipe and cool fun parks!
Nebelhorn, Fellhorn and Söllereck: the very sound of these three
names makes skiing fans’ mouths water.
And that’s no wonder, considering the 44,000 metres of downhill
slopes (30,000 metres of which are virtually snow-safe), 29 different
lifts, numerous cosy mountain lodges to stop and have a snack and
powder snow and sun until you’re ready to drop … and last, but not
least, there are any number of interesting all-inclusive bargains.
Unlimited skiing amusement
Germany’s longest downhill slope, Germany’s longest
continuous monocable lift, the largest linked ski area
on the northern side of the Alps.
◼ Germany’s longest downhill slope at the Nebelhorn
cable lift (7.5 km!)
◼ The new Söllereck lift is Germany’s longest continuous
monocable lift with panorama cars, providing seating for
6 persons and comfortable boarding for both young and old

◼ Free travel by ski-bus – only in Oberstdorf and in sports gear
(skiing / snowboarding)
◼ Family-friendly ski areas with numerous skiing schools
and kindergarten
Slopes galore: from nursery to FIS racing slopes
◼
You’ve just got to admit that the attributes of this ski
area are almost unbelievable!

On the tracks
of world
champions …
The upgraded route system and
well maintained cross-country
ski trails promise the best
conditions, not only to the
participants of the World Cup
but also to amateur cross-country skiers. Cross-country skiers
can choose between ten ski
trails. There is a 76 kilometres
trail for the fans of the classic
techniques and a 55 kilometres
trail for skaters. The majority
of the ski trails are connected
and cover the whole area of
Oberstdorf as well as the valleys
and districts. There are many
possible ways to access the
trails. The ski trails are partly
broadened up to 15 m on the
ascents as well as on the
36
Cross-country skiing trails
descents. Next to multilane ski
trails within the valley there are
also remote ski trails for a
relaxed tour with the whole
family. On a cross country tour
through the peaceful districts
Rubi, Reichenbach, Schöllang,
Rohrmoos one can learn all
about Oberstdorf. The panoramic
ski trails on the peaks around
Oberstdorf offer clear mountain
air and sun. And just in case,
10 km of the World Cup trail can
be covered with artificial snow.
Nine snow making machines,
more than thirteen filling
stations and a 12,000 cubic
metres repository pond provide
the possibility to make snow.
The trail along Trettachtal
towards Spielmannsau offers a
nice challenge for passionate
cross-country skiers. The
strenuous descent of more
than 15 percent below the
Burgstall towards the Haseltopfbrücke (bridge) is well
worth it to experience the
pleasure of the attractive
winter scenery.
Easy trails are for example the
8 km Otterrohr or the Oberstdorf trails. And the 10 km world
championship trail provides a
welcome change; after all everyone would love to feel like a
world champion.
We recommend the Rohrmoos
circuit that runs on both sides
along the Starzlach to the
watershed.
Those who are still beginners
can take lessons at one of the
many schools.
Regular “taster courses” in
cross country skiing are
suitable for everyone, regardless of age or fitness. The
equipment for the training
course is provided free of
charge. The participants can
also take their time to see
which technique they like best.

Doctors,
standby duties
and pharmacies
Those who urgently need a
doctor during nights or week‑
ends, can now call the new
nationwide, uniform and free
phone number 117 116. They are
then automatically connected
to the nearest emergency
service or a doctor on duty. If
automatic forwarding is not
possible, a service center will
take care of the transfer. For
emergencies, the rescue and
emergency medical service is
responsible. However, this is
only for those patients who on
the one hand cannot wait for
the regular medical clinic, but
who on the other hand are not
suffering from life-threatening
or “time-critical” diseases.
In emergencies, for emergency services and the fire
department please call the
phone number 112 and for the
police department the phone
number 110.

Neuschwanstein – the royal castle near Füssen
The fairy tale castle of King Ludwig II is one of the most visited
castles in the world. A visit to this magnificent building will take
you into the secret life of the monarch. The ascent through the
Pöllat gorge is well worth the effort and there are magnificent
views of Neuschwanstein from the Marienbrücke. And don’t forget
to visit the neighbouring castle of Hohenschwangau.

Lindau by Lake Constance
The town of Lindau is situated on the banks of Lake Constance, a
paradise for sailors and other water sports enthusiasts. Particularly the old harbour area with Löwendenkmal (Lion Monument) and
lighthouse is worth a visit. Other interesting sights are the old
town hall and museum.
