When keeping horses in individual stables, it is essential
that they have opportunities for social contact with
members of their fellow species Horses also need the
opportunity to investigate or observe their surroundings.
This can be achieved by providing the relevant structural
facilities, such as small run enclosures that are permanently
accessible, external hatches or, as a minimum, stable doors
that can be half opened. Each individual enclosure must
be designed in such a way as to at least allow the horses to
see, hear and smell one another.

Outdoor paddock
Separation walls that are highly closed off should only
be installed in exceptional cases (e.g. stables for clinical
or quarantine use and foaling stalls). Even in these cases,
it is important the horses can still see, smell and hear at
least one other horse. When assigning horses to individual
stables, it is important to ensure that horses that don’t get
along are not housed next to each other. The hallmarks
of horses not getting along include regular aggression
towards the horse in the neighbouring stable, or kicking
against the separation wall.

In principle, all horses should suit group housing – regardless of their age, breed, sex or type of use. For group
housing, the person responsible for housing the horses
must be highly qualified (with knowledge of and the ability to discern horse behaviour). It also calls for professional
management and the husbandry methods must be properly organised. The group housing of horses also presents
constraints compared to natural conditions (restricted
space, limited alternative options). For this reason, ensuring
that all the horses in a group can satisfy their basic needs is
especially challenging with this kind of husbandry.
The following prerequisites must be met for group housing:
Gradual integration of new horses into an existing group.
Option for separating individual animals or sub-groups.
Careful observation of changes in the group’s hierarchy
and of the welfare of the horses in order to implement any
measures required in a timely manner. Removing horses
from the group if, even after some time, it has not been
possible to integrate them. Adhering to the standard
dimensions and the functional dimensions. No dead-ends
or sharp corners anywhere in the horse enclosure.

regulations, which are intended to help you with species-appropriate
horse husbandry.
Growi® is committed to ensuring safety in every last detail. From the
thickness of the boards we manufacture and the spacing of our grids,
right through to the height of our troughs – when we create your stable, we diligently implement every specification and every idea that
can further improve the safety of horse stables. This means that you
can rely on us to provide you with precision-fitted, robust enclosures.
There are no corners, edges or eyelets in sight and the materials we
use, such as our range of untreated hardwoods, minimise the levels of
harmful chemicals in the stables.

GALENO is a very flexible and quick option – a practical way of installing safe stable facilities. Once we have quickly and precisely adapted
the prefabricated components, the horse stable will be ready for you.

In accordance with the guidelines set by the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture, vertical tubes should have an external diameter of at least 3/4". The wooden
planks should be at least 38 mm thick.

WOOD
The recess in the bottom U-profile rail has a width of 20 cm. The wooden planks are
inserted into this recess and pushed into the frame. Finally, a cover plate is added to
secure the recess. On request, the wood can be delivered with vent slots.
Douglas fir, bamboo and Ekki wood are extremely sturdy natural products. Animals
that live in stables often bite and play with the boards, which can cause damage.
Wood also darkens over time. Deviations from the indicated colour and irregularities in colour and shape are due to the material and do not constitute a deficiency
in quality. Furthermore, warping, shrinkage, darkening, or similar occurrences do
not impair the strength and utility of the wood. On request, we can also deliver profiled boards made of plastic.
It is natural for shrinkage to occur in wood because it has a high moisture content
at delivery. After a period of time, the planks must be re-tensioned. We therefore
recommend that you purchase several extra boards.

AKERA & BUCHELA
PLEASANT VIEWS
The side elements of the Growi® Akera horse stable have a height of 2200 mm, elegantly sloping down to 1400 mm.
The front wall of the Buchela model sweeps down to a height of 1600 mm. The frame of the stall element consists
of 50 x 50 x 3 mm square tube and 50 x 40 x 4 mm U-profile iron. The vertical bars of this element are made of 3/4"
tube. There are visible weld joints where the bars are welded to a 1 1/2" tube and the clearance between each bar
is 50 mm. The wood panelling has a height of 1200 mm and a thickness of 38 mm. It is delivered with tongue and
groove.

IN FULL SWING
These ‘Swing’ front walls from Growi® offer an attractive alternative for your equestrian facilities, adding that certain
something. The front wall has a centrally positioned hinged door that is mounted on two round tubular columns. The
half-height, curved shape of the hinged door lets the horses keep watch over the stable aisle. Growi® horse stables are
circumferentially welded and the vertical tubes have a diameter of 26.9 mm (3/4"). The 102 mm round tubular columns
each have a floor plate at the bottom for anchoring and a steel ball welded on at the top. A secure Growi double-throw
bolt makes it easy to open and close the door. For the wood panelling, you can choose between the tried-and-tested
recycled plastic planks, Douglas fir, bamboo or Ekki wood. All of the panels have a thickness of 38 mm.

A LINEAR FEEL
The Evando model comes at a height of 2200 mm as standard and is manufactured to the width dimensions that
you require. The grid section of the elements is 950 mm
high and consists of 3/4" tubes. These tubes are joined using concealed welds, with 50 mm clearance between each
bar. There is a feeding hatch in the wooden section of each
front wall. The hinged door is 1200 mm wide and is locked
with a hot-dip galvanised double-throw bolt. The hinged
door is suspended by two robust, two-dimensional hinges.
It can also be supplied as a 2-piece hinged door.

The Dorino and Nabila horse stables from Growi® are hot-dip galvanised and feature integrated sliding doors. They have a
standard height of 2200 mm and are manufactured to the width dimensions that you require. The grid section of the elements is 950 mm high and consists of 3/4" tubes. These tubes are joined using concealed welds, with 50 mm clearance
between each bar. There is a feeding hatch in the wooden section of each front wall. The topmost rail above the bar is
enclosed. The sliding door has a width of 1200 mm. The door is locked via a bolt system. The door is hung in an enclosed
runner rail that has two twin steel runners with ball bearings. The end stop is fitted with a rubber bumper.
The Nabila horse stable has a linear front wall with an arch-shaped sliding door.

ELEGIA AND WALINA – A GREAT COMBINATION
Front wall with integrated feeding grid for efficient, species-appropriate provision of hay. The front wall has a total height of
2200 mm. The feeding grids are made of Ø 48.3 mm (1 1/2") round tube and are therefore especially sturdy. The height of the
lower wood panelling for the Elegia model is approximately 440 mm and the height of the upper section is approximately 300
mm. The tubes for the feeding grids are approximately 1500 mm in length, which results in a clearance height of approximately 1900 mm between the floor and the inside edge of the top of the feeding grid. The height of the hinged door is approximately 2200 mm and it has a clearance width of approximately 1200 mm. All steel parts are hot-dip galvanised.

THE GALENO STABLE SYSTEM – INDIVIDUALISED AND ECONOMICAL
We offer fast delivery of Growi® Galeno horse stables from stock, in standard dimensions. The grid elements of this horse
stable can be shortened in increments of 100 mm. This allows for the individual consideration of structural design conditions on site during assembly. The Galeno post allows you to create any conceivable stable solution. There are also fittings
for anchoring to the wall. The grid elements consist of a welded grid frame with a height of 950 mm as well as vertical
bars made of 3/4" tube, with 50 mm clearance between each bar. There are 50 x 40 x 4 mm U-profile elements above and
below. Additionally, there is a U-profile floor rail for accommodating the 38 mm thick wooden panelling, with a recess
and a cover plate for inserting the wooden panelling.
The sliding door consists of a welded door frame with a height of 2150 mm, 50 x 40 x 4 mm U-profile elements above
and below and a 50 x 50 x 3 mm tubular steel side. The door has a clearance width of 1350 mm and comes with a fittings
set that includes a C-profile rail, 2 runners, a stopper and rail brackets. The wood panelling is not included in the price!
The square tube posts are approximately 2200 mm in length, have a profile of 80 x 80 x 3 mm and are 4-sided with
slotted holes for accommodating the grid frame. There is a 150 x 150 x 8 mm floor panel for anchoring, which is bolted
onto the posts on-site. The posts can be bolted to the centre of the floor panel or at the centre of one side. Thus the floor
panel can be customised for all kinds of assembly possibilities.

BELAMIE & NANDO
ALL-PURPOSE ARCHES
The side elements of the Growi® Belamie and Nando horse stables have a height of 2200 mm. The frame of the stall element consists of 50 x 50 x 3 mm square tube and 50 x 40 x 4 mm U-profile iron. The vertical bars within the element are
made of 3/4" tube and are visibly welded with a clearance width of 50 mm between each bar. The wood panelling has a
thickness of 38 mm and features vent slots.
‘Belamie’ features a hinged door with an additional eyebolt lock in order to allow the door to be opened safely, as well as
a kickover latch near the bottom that is designed to prevent horses from kicking through with a hoof. The hinged door is
hung on robust, adjustable hinges, which can be attached on the left or right.
The centre columns each comprise of a Ø 100 mm steel tube with a height of 2450 mm and a foot plate. ‘Nando’ features
a sliding door with rubber bumpers to minimise noise.

HEY PRESTO, THE WALLS HAVE MOVED!
We can manufacture any of our separation walls with this feature so that you can pull the wall into the stable
aisle. To do this, heavy-duty rollers are added to the separation walls, along with a sturdy handle on the stable
aisle side. To guide the movement, a crossbar is installed above the separation wall. The separation wall is
guided towards the stable aisle on two polyamide rollers with ball bearings. A U-profile piece is bolted onto the
external box wall to provide a recess for aligning the separation wall.

Belmondo Rodeo
The Rodeo rubber mat provides the horse stall with impact protection. Its shock-absorbing qualities prevent hip and leg injuries. It also reduces noise levels in your stables. The rubber mat can be easily cut to size and its texture is reminiscent of wooden
planks. The underside of the Rodeo mat has a ribbed pattern. The rubber mat can

Profiled boards 12.5 x 96 mm
The profiled boards that we manufacture from Nordic
softwood have a width of 12.5 mm and we add a shadow
groove profile. We only use A-graded boards, which are
then planed and chamfered. The boards are pre-primed
or impregnated, the latter of which results in a light-green
colour.

SLIDING STABLE DOORS
Growi® double sliding doors are edged on all sides by a completely
hot-dip galvanised square tube frame. The wooden covering
consists of 12.5 mm thick tongue and groove profiled boards. Two
smooth-running pairs of runners guide the doors along an enclosed
C-profile rail. The door is locked with a hook lock. If desired, we can
integrate windows or personnel passages into your sliding doors.
These Growi® sliding door systems are also available as stand-alone

manufacture your gates according to your individual measurements so that they perfectly
fit the space where they will be doing their job for a long time. Completely reliable – our
gates are the product of heaps of knowledge about what safety should look like at a stable.
It all begins with choosing the right materials. When building our gates, we only use solid,
hot-dip galvanised steel tubes with a diameter of two inches. This ensures that the gates are
long-lasting and resilient, even after being exposed to years of rigorous wear and tear. Safety
often boils down to the small details. That’s why we make sure that our gates don’t have any
unnecessary gaps, corners or eyelets that could result in a horse injuring itself.
As you can see, being practically relevant is very important to Growi®. For that reason, we
manufacture our gates at our very own factory in Rietberg. This allows us to keep an eye on
the thing that is most important to us – quality.

PANELS – EASY TO COMBINE
Growi® panels are available in two versions – either with fixed measurements or
with a variable width that can be adapted by up to 1000 mm. The horizontal steel
tubes have a diameter 60.3 mm. The vertical, flat-profiled elements of the GV FIX
fences have a thickness of 8 mm. The GV series on page 59 also consists of vertical
60.3 mm steel tubes and the slide-in sections are made of 48.3 mm tube. The vertical square tubes measure 60 x 60 mm. The GV series panels will be delivered with
two eye bolts and two fixed mounting elements, which are included in the price.

Drop-ring lock for Growi GV elements
The Growi® drop ring lock is mounted in the centre of the head rail of the GV element.
This type of installation makes it possible to open the gate in either direction. The lock has
a 20 mm thick steel bolt, which is embedded by 55 mm when in the locked position. For
safety, a compression spring holds the bolt in the locked position. There is an additional
safety mechanism that prevents the animals from opening this lock. This mechanism
must first be deactivated before the spring lock can be operated.

FEEDING GRIDS FOR HORSES
By placing feed near the ground, horses can adopt their natural posture during long feeding
times. Particularly for groups of horses in free-stall housing, this allows all of the group’s horses
to eat at the same time.
SAFE FROM THE BEGINNING
Feeding grids have been in use for many years in cattle rearing and they are become increasingly popular in individual and free-stall stables. Feeding grids must be strictly fine-tuned to
suit the built and behaviour of the horses. The upper horizontal rod should be at least 2.10 m
high. Every animal is different, which is why the safety feeding grids from Growi® can also be
individually adapted. This allows you to amend the distance between the feeding openings
according to the size of the horses.
FEEDING GRIDS – SAFETY IN THE DETAILS
A risk with feeding grids is that a horse will put its head or leg through an opening and
become entangled in its neighbour’s feeding area. In order to effectively minimise this cause
of injury, Growi® safety feeding grids close off the intermediate space. This is a simple way of
preventing the horse’s neck or legs becoming entangled – and the severe neck injuries or
broken bones that this can cause.

PROTECTION AND COMFORT
There are lots of good reasons to invest in a BELMONDO rubber covering. They support the hoof mechanism and make
the animals more sure-footed. The appropriate level of softness prevents the tendons and joints from excessive strain.
The rubber also offers thermal insulation. This means that the horses are less exposed to the cold from below, which in
turn prevents instances of muscular disorders, rheumatism and stiffness. What’s more, the rubber provides sound insulation and reduces noise levels in the stables! Laying the mats is very simple, so it is quick and easy to install them yourself.
